Getafix Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) This is not to boast(well maybe a little) but I just want to dispel the myth for new members that growing cacti from seed is difficult. Clearly fresh seed helps and I know everyone has their own technique many of which work very well. I don't sterilise. I buy any old potting mix from Bunnings, sieve the large pieces out of it. Mix in 33% soil, 33% sand and 33% perlite and 1% of whatever the fuck you want. Chuck in trays. Water from the bottom up. Sow seed. put in cheap bunnings propagating trays with heat underneath. 17hrs of light on 20 watt flouro's per day and what you see below happens in 5 days. Grown thousands like this. I know there are a million other methods but this is cheap and reliable. It really is easy, start growing newbies, so rewarding. mysubtleascention Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) If you're too lazy to make a fluoro light setting you may wait the spring, or try it in mid winter above the refrigerator, small scale.. /pictue below/ The warmth ,air flow and light are enough for about 3-4 months, then they must go to shady outdoors to prevent etiolation.. This light setting on the picture/40W/ needs to be monitored and adjusted not to be too close ,for it may create too high temps inside.. especially in warm weather..
