Justin Credible Posted July 1, 2013 Hi guys I recently acquired Mangrove Wax Flower Vine (Cynanchum carnosum) The leaves on my plant have turned a dark purple (if purple is a real colour ) Is this normal for winter or possibly a deficiency? Any help or tips would be appreciated in growing or soil preparation. Thank in advance
Weirdo Posted August 17, 2013 Hi Mate, I've observed this plant in the wild growing within a saltmarsh community just behind the Bruguiera zone in a mix of coarse sand and plant detritus just above the high tide mark in full sun. It was prolific and twined up Cassuarina glauca and Excoecaria agallocha trees of all sizes or scrambled across the ground and through saltwater couch etc. It appears to have a high water requirement and can also be found in wallum swamps where the water table is nearly always high. During the warm months it is a lovely green, but as the weather cools it turns all shades of red and purple. I've never attempted to grow this species so all I know about it are from my observations. hope this has helped somehow.
