myco Posted September 28, 2012 so i did this loph peres graft close to a year ago the graft failed twice it was already a very small seedling i recut and grafted until it was down to almost nothing but the tiniest slither of the top of the seedling surprisingly it took it slowly over time puffed up a little bit to an odd looking little thing then it just stayed like that for nearly a year now with no signs of growth at all i really dont understand why it would nt grow it has been under lights with a heatpad its entire life with many others and this is the only one that hasnt grown now over the last few weeks its started to grow into a pretty wierd messed up shape i was reading a bit about chimera's a while ago and was wondering if this could be a viable answer but is that even possible between a loph and peres its pretty hard to tell wats going on at the moment as its still so tiny its messing with my head i've just been waiting and waiting for some growth to see wat the hell is going on with it but its just so damn slow its going to be a bit of a waiting game but i thought i'd post it up maybe someone can shed some light on wat could be happening if anyone has any ideas or has seen or had experience with anything similar id love to hear it i wonder if it will be a freak or just start looking like a normal loph eventually anyway heres the pics
Evil Genius Posted September 28, 2012 Seedling was normal looking at the time you cut it? Seedgrown? Can you give me a total closeup of the thing please? I think i see some orange spots. Sometimes the growth gets messed up by fungal infections so its a bit too early to tell anything. It looks interesting though. Never heard about Chimera between Peres and other cacti. Most chimeras were created with Myrtillocactus as it seems to be more open to this kind of thing than other cacti.
myco Posted September 28, 2012 ok cheers eg thats interesting it does have a few very tiny orange spots wich only happened recently so could attribute to the messed up growth its begining to exhibit however it didnt have this before when it basically showed no growth at all so im not sure about the slow growth unfortunately i cant get much closer than that to it thats the limits of my camera i need a macro lens to get any closer and if i zoom any closer it begins to get blurry the main thing i dont understand is just how it could survive and stay the same for so long its definately got me puzzled
Evil Genius Posted September 28, 2012 Thats not unusual. Its funny because i realised yesterday that two grafts that i considered to be failed suddenly started growing after they looked like they be a fried potatoe chip. Sometimes it only takes a little bit longer. Also seen totally dried up cactus parts throwing pups again. Cacti are wonderful creatures...
myco Posted September 28, 2012 ahhh ok hopefully it begins to actually grow soon then haha speaking of totally dried out cacti throwing pups i noticed a couple of pieces of peres laying around that were the from grafts i did about a month or more ago and forgot to plant them out theyve totally shriveled up into nuthing but 3 pieces have brand new nice healthy fresh branches coming out haha
mutant Posted September 28, 2012 nice to see more people are getting in cactus fever mode too tiny to say for what its worth I had a A.asterias seedling graft stall for ever in a state of multipupping and seemingly going to monster/super pup mode. its still in this state. never had the courage to kill it
