Help with Mushroom ID

Question

Hey everyone,

Went for a hunt last week in some bushland northwest of sydney and found a whole bunch of these growing out of the base of australian pines. Most of them had a bluish but more purple/grey bruising. The gills were really white and I got a spore print from 3 seperate mushrooms and they all came out white, so not subs. Any Ideas?

Looks like Omphalotus nidiformis.

Aaahh yes thanks lord mayo, they were definately omphalotus nidiformus. Reaserched them and everything matches up to a tee, thanks heaps :)

Are these mushrooms ever confused with subs for people that arent very experienced in the field? i think the blueish bruising is very deceptive, i wasnt aware that there were many speices that did this?

I think these are Omphalotus nidiformis, photographed in Tasmania.

I've seen a few ID requests on the shroomery where people thought they've struck gold with those mushrooms. I wonder how bright your puke would glow..

Some Cortinarius species are bluish/purplish in colour which often confuses people. A popular example is Cortinarius rotundisporus which is bluish in colour but does not bruise blue, there's a difference.

Other blue brusing mushrooms to note are Phylloporus clelandii and some Boletes but they look nothing like subs.
