friendly Posted January 26, 2005 Listed as narcotic in CRC Ethnobotany Desk Reference, entry #17987, pg 557. Native to Egypt and Arabia, zygophyllaceae, used to treat diabetes. No other information from CRC. Seeds to N. schoberi formerly available from J. L. Hudson, seedsman, but not listed in their current catalog. Check with them (they're online) and ask; they may still have some or can possibly put you onto the source.
Peyotl Posted January 27, 2005 In one Russian book it is written: "... And fruits of last (N.retusa) possess also weak narcotic properties. Inhabitants of the Arabian countries chew them before departure of religious practices. "
