PD. Posted December 31, 2009 Hold off on watering, forget about it for a month or two. It should be fine man, and if not its only a pach, dime a dozen.
weedRampage Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) Repot into 50% Coarse River Sand (or fine river sand if you can't get coarse) 30% Backyard Dirt 20% Crusher Dust (or 20% extra backyard dirt and a handful of aglime/dolomite mixed well) Give it a good watering with 1:20 urine/water Put it out in 50% sun I buy sick cacti often and the rot stops immediately after they are repotted in the right mix. When you repot prune most of the fine roots and 1/2 length of the thick roots off the plant with a sharp pair of scissors. Remove all of the old dirt. Put it in a BIG pot if you can. bluejay700777 Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) It's hard to see clearly in your photo but this looks like what happened to one of my little ones. I thought the same thing about it healing (especially in spring) but it just got worse [starting to go squishy and rot, turning in on itself]. I chopped the tip off from approx. an inch below the bad area. Dried it out completely. After about a week potted it in sand for a couple of weeks until the first signs of roots then just stuck it on top of the soil held in by pebbles with some lophs. It took about a month but now it is going mad with growth. The base that I left in the soil now has six pups as well! I don't know if that was not the best solution but it seemed to work for me and now they are both growing stong. Good luck mate.
