Zaka Posted June 24, 2009 Irie, So I know you Ozzie boyz are wikkid on id acacias.... So found this one in the center of town. For years I thought it was ylang ylang....but on closer inspection, and a little knowledge for sites like this it's gotta be an Acacia. I have not seen any other Acacias with these type leaves, round here so it maybe the only one on the island. Asked the guys under the tree but they were clueless. 0 cristop Posted June 25, 2009 It's called Acacia auriculiformis or the Earleaf Acacia. It's native to northern Australia, Indonesia and New Guinea but has been widely planted throughout Asia and Africa. I read that it is invasive in Florida, so I'm not surprised it grows in the Caribbean.

0 Zaka Posted June 25, 2009 The good picture of the pod & seeds clinched it. Irie Cristop, Thanks for the ID I suspect that it was probably a gift from the Ozzie Government to our island....about 20 yrs ago? Is it an active species? I liked the photo with the old boys and the cockerel. Respect Z
0 cristop Posted June 26, 2009 If you mean can you get off your head on it, I don't know. If you can't find any info about that assume it's not.
