I went on holidays to a cold climate location and found this lovely Acacia sitting in the local park. The leaves were much smaller compared to Maidenii or Longifolia, so I thought i'd get a couple of shots to find out what it was. It wasn't until I got up close and felt how leathery the leaves were that I began to think it might be Obtusifolia. Am I right? The leaves are about half the size of Maidenni or Longifolia and they are much harder, less bendy - leathery.

hey mardybum,

i couldn't say for sure what it is, but it's definately not an obtusifolia IMO.

the apex of the leaves do not appear to be obtuse & other tell tale obtusifolia leaf characteristics do not seem to be present. also the overall appearance of it doesn't fit with my notion of what an obtusifolia looks like. it at least doesn't look like any that i have ever seen, although saying that, it does show certain similarities which are common to the longfolia's, maidenii's obtusifolia's etc

Looks like A. longifolia to me, the are a very variable species. Though a little more info on where it actually came from would be more than helpful in terms of identification. The cryptic 'cold climate location' doesn't assit much in a positive ident.
