rkundalini Posted June 19, 2000 I have seen in Melbourne and Sydney many trees and shrubs (that could just be little trees) that have bipinnate leaves that aren't Acacias. I wonder if they might be Mimosas. I was just wondering if anybody had any idea what species in Mimosaceae are in common cultivation (or have escaped it) in these cities? Guest reville Posted June 20, 2000 Some of them might be Paraserianthes lopantha AKA albizzia lopantha - cape lleuwin wattle I heard it was an escapee naturalising itself on the east coast. Its a strange plant and i always plants some as they harbour the ladybeetles over winter and they are top notch N fixers in orchards or anywhere really.Apparently they are high in saponins - you can use the leaves as soap and they are rich in tannin as well.
