Gardener Posted March 15, 2007 Are Discocactus varieties active? Can't find anything on the Net. Looked everywhere. Might be following a false lead.
M S Smith Posted March 15, 2007 See my comments here: http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/inde...showtopic=13834 And I do doubt Discocactus are "active" in the manner you would prefer. I have yet to find any information to say they have been examined in a lab (or otherwise). Trout's listings, at least the older one I have, don't list any. ~Michael~
tonic Posted March 16, 2007 What made you think Discocactus spp. were active anyway Gardener?
Gardener Posted March 16, 2007 Tonic, I read it here http://www.cactus-seeds.com/20MedicalCacti.htm (scroll down) I like to collect plants with unusual stories and legends attached. This story sounded amazing. (Contrary to what seemed to be implied in Michael's post I seriously do NOT eat or drink my plants. Sorry Michael if I've misinterpreted.) What made you think Discocactus spp. were active anyway Gardener?
tonic Posted March 17, 2007 An interesting read Gardener, I think I would be doing some more research on that one, many different Native American peoples use many different cacti as "peyote-like sacraments", most have antiseptic/healing qualities to do withe the Tyramine and Hordenine. Interesting how it mentions hallucinations and visions. Would'nt mind finding out asome more about this. For interests sake.
