  1. Good communication is critical to smooth trading.

If something is going to be late for whatever reason, let the recipient know in advance instead of having them return from the mailbox disappointed and wondering if they've been ripped off.

It doesn't take much to keep people informed but it makes a big difference to the overall experience.

That said, if you've traded with someone (especially for cash in advance) why wouldn't it be a priority for you to get the package out to them ASAP? Anything much longer than 2 weeks is pushing it IMO.

EDIT: I also find it helps when ppl msg once they've posted, then you have a better idea of when to expect the item(s)

  2. Love a good doco, I can recommend the following -

Between the Folds - a doco about origami (of all things!?) - its beauty, complexity and some incredible applications to science (http://www.greenfusefilms.com/)

The Daddy of Rock n Roll - the heartwarming story of pschizophrenic artist Wesley Willis

HATED - interesting look at the scat punk artist/fucking idiot GG Allin, student doco

Shamans of the Amazon (Dean Jefferys) - locally produced doco about aya and DMT, including live experience reports, Terrence McKenna interviews etc

Also, pretty much any of the TED talks have that mind-blowing ability too

  3. I agree with HN. The only factors that are needed for germinating seed are heat and water.

and time - I think you're being a bit impatient. Perhaps use a shallower container (oven tray etc), less soil and definitely a heat mat....

Don't expect anything for at least a few weeks and try to resist the urge to look at them daily. I've dropped containers and spilled the babies before with my unecessary checking. :ana:

Don't over-mist either, or the seedlings will rot.

All the best, it's really not that hard in the end.

  4. I wouldn't be surprised if they get into the Stilnox for no reason other than having a legitimate excuse that they don't remember/have no control over their actions when partying. Thus can plead innocent. If that's the main reason they do it... wow, less respect for footballers than I ever thought possible.

Stupid thing is that such a combo induces a delerium that prevents the experiencer from literally knowing what they're doing, making the whole thing a pointless and extremely risky exercise... this coupled with their powerful bodies, juvenile nature, violent tendencies, pack mentality etc makes for frightening possibilities

  5. EXPLOSIVE claims have emerged from the ruins of Queensland's failed bid for a State of Origin clean sweep, with allegations some players were dabbling in a home-made party drug made by mixing a prescription sleeping tablet with the energy drink Red Bull.

As the dust settled on NSW's spiteful 28-16 win at Suncorp Stadium, stories began to emerge about the party-time approach of some players in the build-up to the match.

Maroons coach Mal Meninga is reportedly furious at the lack of professionalism of some of his charges and will, with team manager Steve Walters, present a full debrief on the series to Queensland Rugby League boss Ross Livermore.

Despite the stern warning issued to the players following Nate Myles' disgraceful performance at a Central Coast hotel, which resulted in him being suspended by the NRL for six weeks, it has been reported a group of players caught taxis to Surfers Paradise after the Monday night team dinner and did not return to camp until the early hours of the morning.

So lax was the approach of some players, it is understood the Maroons' final training session on Origin eve was a disaster as squad members struggled to shake off the effects of a week in which they burnt the candle at both ends.

However, while speculation of all-night drinking sessions are hardly new to Origin football, which has long enjoyed stories of famed bonding sessions, the suggestion some players were mixing high-caffeine drink Red Bull with insomnia drug Stilnox as a party supplement is cause for alarm. Stilnox, found in the New York apartment of actor Heath Ledger when he died last year of a prescription drug overdose, has a similar effect to cocaine and other party drugs when it is combined with alcohol or energy drinks such as Red Bull.

While to date officials have publicly played down rumours surrounding some of the Maroons squad, it is understood several clubs have expressed concerns about what went on. Officials from three clubs said they were aware of allegations some players were using Stilnox in the lead-up to Origin III.

Inquiries by The Australian yesterday revealed the dangerous combination of Stilnox and Red Bull is in vogue with professional footballers across all codes.

By combining the two, footballers avoid the adverse effects of heavy alcohol intake and escape the ramifications of a positive drug test. A representative of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority confirmed Stilnox was not on the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited list.

President of the Queensland branch of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia Tim Logan said taking Stilnox with alcohol or some other concoction was fraught with danger.

"Because of its fairly strong (psychogenic) effects it can (be), and has been, abused by people," Logan said.

"But as I said it is an extremely dangerous practice and there are numerous reports of people displaying bizarre, dangerous and even life-threatening behaviour when it is taken incorrectly or in excess or, as I said, in a manner other than the one it is designed for."

NRL chief executive David Gallop said he was unaware of allegations some Queensland players had used Stilnox in the lead-up to Origin III. However, he said he was monitoring the QRL's investigation into the camp.

"We have no evidence of that but understand the QRL is looking into the entire week," Gallop said.

"It's not a banned substance but it's a concern for health reasons." Two years ago, in the wake of Andrew Johns' drug confession, it emerged players across the NRL were experimenting with Stilnox. At the time, it was reported the players were mixing sleeping pills with Red Bull and alcohol.

However, the suggestion it occurred in the lead-up to an Origin game has the potential to leave a stain on the game. It also threatens to take some of the gloss off the Maroons' historic series win, their fourth in succession.

Livermore yesterday insisted he had received no complaints from club officials and called on any with concerns to contact him.

Told of the alarming claims of some players using Stilnox as a stimulant, Livermore said: "I haven't heard any of that.

"Whoever you're hearing this from, tell them to ring us."

ARL chief executive Geoff Carr said he was also unaware of the allegations, but he expected the QRL to report any issues that may have emanated from camp.

"The only thing I can say is that I would expect the ARL would be on top of any issues with their team," Carr said.

"As I haven't heard anything from them, I have no reason to think there's an issue. One way or the other it's in the hands of the QRL. We will wait to hear from them."

It's crazy the lengths they're going to for a legal big night out.

The mere thought of a pack of meat head rugby players out on the town together under the influence of a stilnox/red bull/alcohol combo is bloody frightening!

  6. I always thought it was the other way around wouldn't a substance be present in the blood for far longer then saliva how does this work? Sorry if thats a stupid question but i was always under the impression that blood and urine had a longer detection period

In saying that I also wonder about the accuracy of saliva tests I know people who have driving after a toke and showed negative on a swab is there some suubstance e.g coke or mouth wash that screws up such readings?

This was my understanding too and upon searching around the web for swab tests I've found a myriad of detection windows mentioned, from 1 day to 30 days... so I'm a little confused. Obviously it will depend on personal metabolism, cumulative uses and swab test types, but it seems hard to get consistent general stats.

  7. I think you are mistaking the difference between a blood test and a swab test. If they do a blood test it should only show up what's actually in your system right now. Swab test is the one which will test positive for much longer (i.e. 6 weeks for MJ).

Cool, thanks for clearing that up.

It may still be slightly worrying for the regular MJ users out there:

    Blood Testing

Cannabis is detectable in the blood for approximately 2-3 days after use in an infrequent user. Frequent use can be detected in the blood for approximately 2 weeks.

  8. is it true that blood tests will be negative if you are no longer intoxicated? if so it's only a bombshell for those who drive intoxicated.

These are mandatory drug blood tests, which I believe will show a positive for certain substances (ie: MJ) long after the affect has worn off.....

So if you've toked MJ sometime in the last 6 weeks and are unfortunate enough to have an accident, you will likey be prosecuted for having it in your blood at the time of the accident, despite the fact that it was not related to the accident at all!

  9. Online News story

Victorian authorities are seeking to increase penalties for some hoon drivers.

From next month, all drivers involved in a crash will have their blood tested for drugs.

Victoria Police have confiscated more than 8,000 vehicles in the state since the introduction of anti-hoon legislation three years ago.

First time offenders have their car impounded for 48 hours.

After a third offence, police may apply to have the car permanently forfeited.

Seven people have lost their cars permanently.

Fifteen hundred cars were impounded this year alone.

The Bendigo region has topped the list for the highest number of vehicles impounded.

Suburbs also making the top ten for hoon offences include Broadmeadows, Werribee and Frankston.

Police say 58 drivers have had their cars impounded after being caught travelling more than 200 kilometres an hour.

Police Minister, Bob Cameron also wants drivers to lose their cars for up to three months if they are caught doing excessive speeds, rather than just 48 hours.

"We do want to make a move there to take cars off them longer because we know that the courts are going to be doing that in any event," he said.

Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay said they are sending a clear message to drivers.

"Police are removing around 50 dangerous drivers from our roads every week," he said.

"The anti-hoon legislation is about deterrence. Police would rather see an end to these offences than force people to watch their vehicles being towed away."

There were 448 people who have offended more than twice and 74 people who offended three times.

Around 80 per cent of drivers caught are under the age of 30.

    :o

The drug testing bit is obviously not the focus of the article, but this is a bit of a bombshell, no?

  10. I do not know about other people but I certainly feel if someone molested my child I would be letting the police prosecute them and throw them in jail before i even thought of taking a civil action it was truely only ever a trail by media

Unfortunately I think you over-estimate the average modern person in this modern materialistic society... most people would rather get as much $$$ from someone as a way to 'get justice' than criminally prosecuting to the extent of the law, especially with the knoweldge that the accused has a LOT of money to throw around.... I reckon advice would have been received at some stage that said the quickest and easiest way to get a lot of money out of the situation would be to aim for something out of court, and to hell with criminal prosecution

Some times if you have enough money to do so its just easier to pay people to fuck off and leave you alone.

Why would an innocent person ever consider that?

I don't want to buy into the debate over whether he was a pedo or not, but I think it's just as bad to trial him as guilty OR innocent with mere speculation

  11. Geeze you lot are like the angry mob with pitch forks...you really let the media get to you huh...what proof do actually have about him being a pedophile..I mean really come on...I'd be happy to join in the fun with all the jokes but I refuse ever in my life to believe anything the mass media has to say...particularly when they start witch hunts on the rich and famous..let me guess you all read People and believe everything in there too...sheesh.

    H.

Not at all. In all honesty I believe he was a very misunderstood individual and an interesting example of what a very twisted life experience can do. I'm not casting aspersions one way or the other on the pedophile accusations, just sharing the obligatory bad jokes when something like this happens. Such as:

What do Michael Jackson and the Collingwood Football Club have in common?

They are both black and white and die mid year.

    and so they continue....

  12. How do they know the Wallabies are getting high...?

It's all too obvious when you see em slouching around the streets of tassie wearing faded adidas tracksuits with spoons and bottles of water stashed in their pouches

  13. I got tickets to the 3rd show in melbourne

The first 2 shows sold out in 45 mins total. Thats 110,000 tickets in 45 mins which is over 40 per second -

and at an average of $125 per ticket thats $5000 per second = $300,000 per minute = $1 million every 3.5 minutes = $17 million per hour

No wonder they're consistently in the BRW top 20 rich list

Anyway, should be a blast! Gonna rock up in stonewash jeans and flanny in me ute, pissed on VB, smokin winnie blues and choof, with me mullet hair cut and moccasins etc...

  14. 250should clinch it i'd say..i'll be watching with baited breath around the time ...fingers crossed..place that high bid at about 30 seconds to go should snare it

    H.

Yeah I second that. If we get it for $250 (hopefully much less) that would be $25 each which is what most of us seem happy enough to go up to. Good luck with the bidding VS, I'll be watching :)

  15. I'm in too, I think that makes 10 of us

I'm happy to chip in $20.

As Bit said, it will be a real bastard to dig out properly, would be much easier taking cuttings to re-root.

Cool, let me know how I can be of assistance - I'm in front of a PC all day and have won my fair share of ebay auctions. I think the best tact is to lay quiet for the auction, then put your maximum bid in with about 5 seconds to go. Dibs on not doing the pick up bit though...

    Cheers

  16. Hi guys,

I'm not going to make it.... we've just moved bush and have had to come in to the city nearly every day since for various things and I'm over it and just wanna spend 2 days in a row at home without 2+ hours of driving. Also getting the car put on gas this weekend, so might even be without wheels anyway.

    Apologies, have a blast....

  17. Myself and 9 friends are going to see david ike on aprill the 11th it goes from 9am to 6pm at night, anyone else here going?

Cool, I didn't know this was happening. Where and how much? Did you have to buy tix? I may get along to this.

  18. so im guessing no one has tried it then

Yep ppl have def tried this - the cakes can be split with no worries, each part will go on to have a life of its own.

As has been said already, it's a good way to spawn other media and also increase mycelial surface area ie: cut a cylinder shaped cake long ways down the middle and lay them flat parts down with the curved sides facing up to maximise the surface area facing the light above.

Be sure you slice each cake with something sterile, like a fresh piece of fishing line rubbed with metho.
