    Slumdog Millionaire

Hi All, Just wanted to recmmend a great movie I saw over the weekend - Slumdog Millionaire. Totally nothing related to ethno, but it is an amazing journey and fullfilling 2 hours. Had a lump in my throat for most of it for many different reasons. Laughed, cried, cringed, was humbled, got angry, cheered etc it has it all. I wont spill the details on the plot in case you don't like spoilers, but it is a decent lovestory interwoven through an amazing life in abject poverty in India. It's based on the book Q&A, and is 2 hours long but you don't notice as it's so engrossing. No major western actors, really nicely shot, nice soundtrack, honest balls and all footage of India and it's poeple/culture and the westernisation of it. As molly would say, 'Do yourself a favour' Cheers Dudes

Man Set On Fire For Smoking Cannabis

Fuck, Mr Currim was unconcious for four days afterward! Emerson should be charged with attempted murder. That's completely fucked. As punishment he should be forced to buy them a new car and sit in it with them and smoke cannabis together. That'll fix him up. 'Duuuuuuude, I'm so sorry I tried to set you guys on fire...... what was I thinking maaaaan... can you please pass me the Doritos'

    Coogee poo cream

I reckon it's a scam - the fact they were already arguing with the staff - then he goes off to the dunny and comes back and then they find the poo is a bit much. Though they seem annoying enough for the staff to want to do it to 'em. Reminds me of the Jackass episode where they sneak dog shit in to a chinese restaurant and put it in their soup and call the waiter over.... who takes it out the back and the staff all take turns sniffing it and being repulsed. That show was so juevnile and often lame, but still made me laugh.

    Slumdog Millionaire

I saw it at the cinema, its still fairly fresh here (in Aus). It's showing at the major cinemas, though it's a Dendy film with a bit of an indy feel. Danny Boyle makes more than his fair share of Gold hey.

    elf & gnome again

    anyone else seen Amelie?
  7. Try Shulman, it's in a similar vein to Shpongle. Ipso Fvcto is great, very original and creative.
  8. Describes me perfectly, except for the prog bit. These days I'm really enjoying dub step, dub, some IDM, experimental electro etc, seems to have more artistic spirit than a lot of the cookie-cutter-ego-driven generic psy that's flooding the scene. Really digging The Sound Lab - Sunday nights on Triple J with Fenella Kernebone. mmmmmmmmm Fenella...... A couple of years ago I downloaded the Tripswitch set by DJ Ripple which was a revelation to me, still listen to it often. I highly recommend it, it's freely available Really love this this too (Toasty - Guesswork) Hardstyle doesn't really do it for me.

    stilnox, the new crazy glue

These side effects are EXACTLY like that of an obscure underground ethno that is NOT banned. Seems as though our safety is not the determinig factor at all when these laws are created. It's bloody atrocious that the dangerous stuff is the most freely availabe, yet much safer and more fulfilling stuff has been taken out of our hands.
  11. Parents bailed after baby ingested drugs A VICTORIAN couple has been released on bail after their baby almost died swallowing a drug, believed to be ecstasy, in far north Queensland. The father, 24, and mother, 22, faced Cairns Magistrates' Court today charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of a dangerous drug, The Cairns Post reports. Their two-month-old baby remains in a serious but stable condition in Cairns Base Hospital, after going into cardiac arrest and being placed in an induced coma on Sunday. Police allege she ingested half an ecstasy pill, a street drug that can produce serious symptoms. Her condition has since improved and she has been transferred from the intensive care unit to the paediatrics ward. Paramedics rushed to a unit at Behan St, Manunda, about 10.30am on Sunday, about 90 minutes after the baby suffered a seizure. Detectives from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit and Cairns CIB searched the unit and questioned the father and mother for several hours on Sunday. The couple has been released on watch-house bail and are believed to be keeping a bedside vigil at the hospital as their daughter recovers. She is expected to make a full recovery. The baby remains in their care but the Department of Child Safety is investigating the matter. Police are not alleging the couple deliberately administered the drug to the toddler. Police said the couple and their daughter were holidaying in Cairns over the Christmas and New Year period. But a resident at the unit complex said they had moved to the city and the father had recently taken up a job. Linky

Parents bailed after baby ingested drugs

It's come out now that their story is that they gave the pill to the baby thinking it was a headache tablet! Who the fuck gives a 2 month old a headache tablet anyway? How idiotic are they to confuse it with ecstasy? It's getting harder to believe this was accidental. Even if you buy their story, their negligence and stupidity is undoubtable. Perhaps for a toddler who can get around and is inquisitive and can co-ordinate themselves to pick something up and eat it. But a two month old can barely roll over let alone see something, move over to it and pick it up, then put it in their mouth and swallow it. Responsible parents would not be in a position to confuse ecstasy with a headache tab, and they certainly wouldn't give a headache tablet to a baby anyway.

perhaps something along the lines of 'If you tell us where you got the pills from we'll give you custody of your baby again'

    No opt-out web filtering

Hahahahaha, would be funny to see BBSs and telephone line modems back in the mix.... Seriously though, I suggest we download EVERYTHING that is precious and sensitive to us and keep offline copies. There used to be plenty of software around for downloading entire sites at a time. Erowid has whole site archives available as ISO downloads.....

Parents bailed after baby ingested drugs

It seems this may not have been an accident at all. Bloody hell! I didn't really consider how young the baby was. At that age it would barely be out of it's burrito roll, let alone crawling around and putting crap in it's mouth. Even if the 2 month old was capable of picking up the half pill and swallowing, it's damn negligent of the parents to leave such a young baby unwatched to that extent, let alone leave a pill in a position where it could be found by the bub. Makes me think they might have been out of it at the time? Or just fuckeheads. Sadly it seems this sort of thing is done deliberately to calm babies down - this from Gillgigan's article above: I've heard of dipping dummys in honey or even rum to calm a baby, but this is sickening. Cunts should be sterilised.

    Xmas present ideas

I second this. I often give the pups away in little pots as gifts. Cheap, freely available and an excellent gift for anyone. I gave one to a one year old this year - will be great for her to learn caring for it, and to watch it grow up with her.

Getting high on HIV drugs in S Africa

I was interested as to what the pharmacology behind this was and came across this interesting paper instead: Interactions Between Recreational Drugs and Antiretroviral EXCERPTS: The advent of potent new therapies for HIV has seemingly turned the tide in the battle against this disease. Specifically, combinations of antiretroviral drugs that include a member of the protease inhibitor (PI) or nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) family offer new hope that the progression of the disease and death can be delayed.1-3 However, the addition of combination therapies to already complex medication regimens dramatically increases the likelihood of drug interactions.4-7 PIs and NNRTIs, in particular, have a propensity for causing drug interactions as a result of their ability to either inhibit or induce the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzyme system.8-13 The effects of medications commonly used by patients with HIV/AIDS on the body's various drug-metabolizing pathways are summarized in Table 1 .8-13 While numerous interactions of varying clinical significance have been well described10-12 with these antiretrovirals, less is known about the potential for drug interactions with recreational drugs. This is an issue of concern, since drug use by injection remains a significant risk factor for the acquisition of HIV infection.14, 15 According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,16 the proportion of AIDS cases in the US associated with injection drug use has increased from 12% in 1981 to 25% of all new cases through June 2001. In Canada, the proportion of new HIV infections attributable to injection drug use increased from 24% in 1987-1990 to 34% in 1999.17 A report18 of a suspected fatal interaction between ritonavir and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, ecstasy) has sparked demands for increased awareness and research in this area. Realistically, however, it is unlikely that pharmacokinetic interactions between drugs used in HIV pharmacotherapy and most recreational agents will be formally studied, due to legal and ethical constraints. However, it is often possible to predict potential interactions using in vitro and in vivo drug metabolism data.19 Since many recreational drugs are metabolized to some degree by the CYP450 system, it is reasonable to anticipate that concomitant use with PIs and delavirdine could possibly result in drug accumulation and/or toxicity. Similarly, treatment with enzyme inducers such as the NNRTI nevirapine may precipitate withdrawal reactions to recreational agents metabolized by the CYP450 system. Interactions between the NNRTI efavirenz and recreational drugs may be more difficult to predict, given that efavirenz can both inhibit (3A4, 2C9/19) and induce (3A4) selected isoenzymes of the CYP450 system, although induction of CYP3A4 appears to predominate over inhibition of this particular isoenzyme.7, 13 The purpose of this review is to summarize data on drug interactions between recreational drugs and antiretrovirals. In the absence of such data, the potential for an interaction is addressed based on the metabolic fate of the recreational drug. General information regarding the steps involved in drug metabolism has been reviewed elsewhere.19 PDF Web Page
  18. Dutch "magic mushroom" vendors lose court bid against ban Agence France-Presse Published: Friday November 28, 2008 THE HAGUE (AFP) - "Magic mushrooms" will be banned in the Netherlands from next week after a court ruling Friday, in the latest sign of a hardening stance on recreational drug use by the traditionally liberal Dutch. The ban will be in place from Monday after the district court in The Hague rejected a petition by a body representing vendors of the hallucinogenic fungi to halt a health ministry ban on their cultivation and sale. The ruling comes days after authorities ordered dozens of Amsterdam's famous cannabis-selling coffee shops to close and two other municipalities announced they would close down all their cannabis cafes from February. "This is bad news for us," Paul van Oyen, a spokesman for the vendors' association VLOS told AFP after the verdict. "We are highly disappointed." The district court dismissed the VLOS's petition for an urgent interdict against the ban as groundless and unfair. The ban, introduced by Health Minister Ab Klink and already passed by lawmakers, will now come into force on December 1. The legislation forbids both the cultivation and sale of fresh hallucinogenic mushrooms, which grow naturally in the wild in several areas. A total of 186 species of "shrooms" or "paddos" will become illegal from Monday, with more expected to follow later. The dried variety has been illegal in the country for several years. Klink believes consumption of the fungi, sold in the Netherlands in so-called smart shops, "can lead to unpredictable and risky behaviour". His ban follows the death in March last year of a French teenager who had taken mushrooms before jumping to her death from an Amsterdam bridge, reigniting a national debate over tolerance of the substance. But Jaap Jamin of the Jellinek addiction prevention institute said the prohibition made no sense. "We are not necessarily for the use of paddos, but we are against its banning," he told AFP. The move would merely force the trade underground where it could no longer be regulated, said Jamin. "And one can imagine a situation in which people who want it will merely go and pick mushrooms themselves at the risk of consuming poisonous types." According to Amsterdam health services, where a quarter of the country's smart shops are to be found, more than 90 percent of the 1.5 million to two million doses consumed every year are bought by foreign tourists. VLOS says there are six growers in the Netherlands, 180 smart shops, and a few hundred employees in an industry with an annual turnover of 15-20 million euros. Several political parties have become more critical of the Netherlands' traditionally liberal approach on issues such as drugs and prostitution which is seen as a draw for sex tourists. The Netherlands decriminalised the consumption and possession of under five grams of cannabis in 1976. Its cultivation, however, remains illegal. The Netherlands hosts a total of 702 so-called coffee shops -- establishments with special licences to sell cannabis. However the Mayor of Amsterdam said last week he would reluctantly close 43 in his city in accordance with a new law banning cannabis-selling coffee shops situated within a 250-metre (820-feet) radius of schools. Last week, the southern Dutch city of Maastricht incurred the ire of nearby Belgian towns by opting to move its seven coffee shops closer to the border to dilute the nuisance it claims is caused by drug tourism. And Roosendaal and Bergen-op-Zoom, two other southern Dutch municipalities close to the Belgian border, have announced they will close their coffee shops from February 1 next year. Psilocybin breaking down with heat and time

I remember excitedly reading a shroomery thread years ago that proclaimed a new era in shroms by pre-dosing with a rather large amount of undiluted ribena juice. Rushed home (to Amsterdam) and tried it with a relatively small dose and found the effect was increased (and altered), though it wasn't worth the pain of drinking that much pure syrup. Ended up spewing rainbows soon after. Haven't drunk ribena since. yeah sure you didn't Interesting tidbits that I had never heard before! Thanks!

    nice sized shroom

I'm sure they were found growing in a public garden bed containing vermiculite, where they were not picked but popped out of the ground on on to the egg cartons by themsleves, right Hunab Ku? I love it when they do that.

not too sure about that... I've read you pretty much die every time.... The good thing is we have no reason to fear that it's being 'cooked' in Oz

    Mumbai Terrorists were high

I read this in the MX yesaterday and was outraged! Wouldn't injections of even tiny amounts of acid incapacitate even the hardest trippers amongst us?!? Let alone make you shun acts of violence against innocent people! No doubt it would keep me awake for days though

Psilocybin breaking down with heat and time

What sort of casualties? Can you elaborate please? Was the preservation extreme? My two cents: a gentle heat overnight is def the way to go. Dessicants alone take much longer and get messy/sticky, for relatively the same result... EDIT: though I always wondered if blowing air onto them for extended periods would increase the oxidation anyway? Experience says only by a negligible amount...

    Finding Myself - with music

Though not free, I find Native Instrument's Traktor to be great. It's reasonably cheap to buy, but there are always free copies around if you look in the right places I'd be interested to listen to the mix when you've done it, so be sure to put it up somewhere dude...
