  1. I think the dissociatives ruined Johns, He went real wierd after hooking up with Paul Mac and it is reflected in every aspect of his music, it has turned to shite. Silver chair is a joke now, Johns doesn't fit the band at all and I can only see failure for them in the future

I think he was telling the truth about smoking weed with bono and garret, no one can speak so frankly and expect it to be taken as a joke, he obviously did not think before he spoke (probably stoned)

  2. i would like to see someone pull 3 lb off less than a thou..

Yeah that is not doable, that 1 lb per 400w is a maximum figure based on someone with unlimited resources who treats growing as a full time job and not a hobby, i.e. a professional dealer.

They would be using CO2, air con temperature control, flushing every day, running to waste, strong air movement and top shelf nutrients and additives etc

I dare say most people wouldn't have seen let alone invested in such set ups, but they are out there and that is why the legislation was changed and why wattage can't be used as a guide

Go down to a good hydro store and they will be able to tell you exactly what you need to obtain those figures but be prepared to spend thousands. Many seeds from well bred genetics are sold as being able to obtain over 500gms per square metre in Holland.

I never mentioned any more than 1 plant in my inital statment also. Never mentioned SOG, numbers are way to high to even bother with it here

You didn't actually mention any plant numbers in relation to your 800-1200 watt figures, which is is why I assumed that one could grow any number under your idea.

I spent 9 years in SA a while back when there was a 10 plant limit indoors and have seen such yields. I have also had friends robbed at gun point and even involved in murder as a result of growing pot

The goal and hope is, most people will loose interest in small yeilding insignificant setups with 2 plants with limited wattage, unfortunately we will never stop syndication tho... thats impossible.

I can see where you are coming from and I think a 1 plant limit with a 400watt limit is not a bad idea with limitations on CO2 use. I don't think anyone will be spending thousands on a set up to grow one plant. I also suppose there may be a safety issue with indoor growing that has prompted the move to outdoor. Anyone in Adelaide will remember the odd house fire due to poorly set up grow rooms

But fact is anyone who is growing for profit will continue to do so regardless of the law, The new legislation will just stop them falling through the cracks in the legal system that previously allowed professional dealers to do so

  3. Indoor, 800-1200watts will yield between 3/4 to 1 1/2 pound, every 12 week cycle

Yeah, if you don't know what you are doing

A learned grower could get close to 3 pound off 1200 watts every 12 weeks which WILL net them 30,000 a year

It is accepted that 400watts is capable of producing 1 pound and reports of double that when using the sea of green method

That is why there is a limit on number of plants and that is why it is also illegal to grow hydro because a grower with unlimited resources and skill could easily outstrip your estimates

Wattage is only one of many factors affecting yield and by no means the ultimate. Other factors which can greatly affect yield are genetics, medium, nutrients/aditives, set up, habit, number of stems/ light, pot size, water quality, aeration, flushing, experience, temperature plus I'm sure many others.

Frankly I don't see why anyone would need more than a 1/4 oz a week for personal medicinal use. 1 well grown outdoor would produce that. Kudos to the SA govt for still allowing that.

  4. Hold up there cow boy.... am i meant to be using a light.

I thought you only had to expose them to very slight indirect light, so I have them in a room near the window and open the curtins half way to let the light in during the day.

    Is that enough?

Or do I need grow lights?

Yeah I certainly think it helps, lots of people do use lights during germination, it provides top heat to complement the bottom heat and may well provide a que for germination.

Lights used are fluorescents. You can use tubes, but I just use a couple of 20 watt "warm" (reder light rather than the bluer cooler looking) compact fluoros mounted on a Styrofoam cooler with the bottom cut out sitting on the heat mat. Lights are on 14-16 hrs/day

It makes for a very pleasant and even climate

Windows can lead to large changes in temperature with the diurnal phase shift. I know I can feel significant temperature drops within a meter of my windows at the moment. I don't germinate any seeds near a window due to this

I measure the temperatures with all my indoor plants using an electronic thermometer which keeps max and mins so I can ensure a good climate. If seedlings are in an enclosed space this means drilling a hole for the probe to go into the air space for measuring ambient temperature in the container

some change is ok or even good to mimic normal climate, but during winter these changes are more severe than in the natural period when germination would occur.

Each to their own, I know a lot of people don't worry about this, but where I am it gets pretty damn cold in winter and it is a requirement for me

  5. thats the whole idea of the broken window approach, to fix one thing they have to control every aspect that may be a cause of what they want to fix by harsh policing

ie if there is one broken window in a building it gives the impression that the building is uncared for, so to give the impression of care in one area (cosmetically), every broken window must be fixed

  6. THE happy, harmless, hippy image of Nimbin has gone up in smoke.

After years of turning a blind eye to its 'alternative' and illegal drug culture, NSW police have vowed to take a zero-tolerance approach to bring the toking town back into line with the rest of the country.

Residents yesterday told how 'harmless' pot smoking had made way for harder drugs such as speed and ice, with the town now divided into two sections. On one side of the street live the pot smokers, and on the other are those addicted to the 'bad stuff'.

"It's sad to see, but slowly but surely the pot-smokers are crossing the road," said one resident who did not want to be named.

"Everyone thinks we're just a little hippy town but there's a nasty side to the alternative lifestyle.

"It's not just small-time pot smokers who live here, there's big, bad deals going down every day."

With high rates of mental health issues and homelessness, police say the community needs to be rehabilitated -- and fast.

Following years of open drug dealing on the streets, as well as a rising tide of violence, police have had enough.

After petitioning the NSW Government for more resources, Local Area Commander Bruce Lyons will be boosting the police station's staff from four to nine officers in the coming months in a push to drive the drugs out of town. But, the crackdown has angered some residents -- who claim the bigger force is overkill for a town of 500 people.

One long-time resident who declined to be named said marijuana was a big part of Nimbin.

"I don't want my first granddaughter smoking her first joint and getting busted for it because it's illegal," she said. "I'm stoned but I can still have a proper conversation with you now."

"It's a one-of-a-kind town -- there's no other town like Nimbin," said another resident, Keyarrah Delauney.

"Basically they're all over the place (the drugs).

"It's mostly marijuana or pills. Not many sell coke.

"We know where to go if we want anything -- you just go down that lane."

While Seleua Whittaker said: "I wouldn't know where to get ice off the top of my head but I would know if I asked around."

But Supt Lyons was adamant a New York-style 'broken windows' approach was the only way to smash a culture he said is destroying social order in Nimbin.

"I'm passionate about fixing the problem because, unless we deal with all the social problems, the town will continue to see the consequences of drug addiction," said Supt Lyons, who has been in charge of the Far North Coast for three years.

"I have been getting a lot of criticism about this approach but there is a silent majority in Nimbin talking to me saying they want change and change is what needs to happen."

The plan is welcome news to Gold Coast law enforcement bodies, with the lush hills of northern NSW -- from Byron Bay to Nimbin and Murwillumbah -- considered the region's own Golden Triangle of drug manufacturing, smuggling and dealing.

A number of large-scale busts in recent years have only scratched the surface as drug lords hide out in the rural hamlets surrounding the bay, bringing their products into Byron for sale, or else exporting them out of the region to nearby cities like the Gold Coast and Lismore.

From May, 2005, until mid-2006, Tweed police operation Strike Force Belconnen went on a drugs blitz, yielding stashes of marijuana and other drugs worth millions of dollars.

The region was then ranked second to Kings Cross as NSW's worst drug areas.

Last April, police raided a property near Murwillumbah where they Police found Australia's biggest ice laboratory capable of producing 300kg -- $30 million worth -- of the dangerous drug.

, five security cameras were installed along the main street in 2005 but that only pushed drug pushers into the back alleys.

Undercover police have conducted many operations in Nimbin over the years, but Supt Lyons wants to let drug dealers know police will now be on the streets.

But Supt Lyons was adamant a New York-style 'broken windows' approach was the only way to smash a culture he said is destroying social order in Nimbin.

Well of course, we all know New York has no problem with drugs and dealing :scratchhead:

    Drugs in New York

But I wonder how using tactics born in a population of 19,306,183 will work in a population of 500

    Shattering broken windows

  7. How far is "planted shallow"? You only have to lay them on the surface, i usually just plomp them on top and sprinkle a layer no more than 1mm of sand so their roots have something to dig into, keep moist and humid.

Yeah I don't even do that, just leave em on the surface and mist every day.

Leave them a bit longer, can take up to a month. Both environments can be quite humid till soon after germination. I put glass coasters on top of my pots which are small (75mm with about 10-20 seeds per pot). I would then harden both off asap probably within a couple of weeks to a month when quite green. essential for the lophs and better in the long run for the echinopsis

Oh and what sort of light are you using?

EDIT: I have had good success germinating in coarse sand alone, then after hardening off I put in a mix of 1/3 coco coir and 2/3 coarse sand and start feeding with 1/4 strength seasol

  8. Na, some of those fruits are 10% sugar or more and the rest basically water

ie in 1KG of pineapple there is about 100gms of sugar and about 500 calories worth of energy

To burn 500 calories it will take about an hour of intense cardio, you'd think you would notice if your body was expending that sort of energy to digest a meal. After eating three meals you'd be nackered!

  9. Found them in the New England National park very early in the season. I can only think that Dorrigo would be more suited being 300mm higher in rainfall and also slightly less severe temperature wise, hopefully extending the season somewhat.

There is plenty of fungal activity around here at the mo, heaps of wood and dung lovers but no actives, I think the temps have dropped too low.

  10. It sounds like most of you are forgetting that NNSW includes the table lands

Go 50-100km inland and you will find yourself close to or above 1000m above sea level

Take a trip up to dorrigo and have a look around, but it may be too cold up there now as the Myc stops growing when it regularly gets under 10 during the day and stops fruiting when the nights are consistently under zero, which it has been for some time now.

  11. Yeah I would describe it as more of a mood enhancer than anything else, its a soft ride up which then fades away almost unnoticed.

I find I can easily eat full and hearty meals after chewing and sleep comes easily

Don't expect a rush or any euphoria or even a rise in heartbeat, just a pleasant lift in spirits.

  12. Nah go ahead and do it!! Just do it where legal and be careful :)

Honestly I don't think it would work

MAO A which works upon the tryptamines, seratonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine and dopamine is found throughout the body. It is found in most cells in neurons and astroglia. as well as out side the central nervous system and in the liver, gastrointestinal tract and placenta.

The fact that she had such a long experience leads me to think there may have been some degredation of the material used maybe producing 5-HO or that there was some other tryptamines present from the plant material used?

5-HO is orally active and if there was only 5% degradation of the material/byproducts this would still be plenty for a ethneogenic dose given the large amount she had. 600mg's is just stupid (meaning that there could be significant amounts of byproducts plant derived or degradation derived)

    Let us know either way

  13. No yeast can use fructose completely. For example, sucrose is a combinatioon of glucose and fructose and is broken down to the seperate isomers before being used by the yeast by the enzyme invertase which catalyzes the hydrolysis of the disaccharide sucrose. All these sugars are commonly found in brewing yeasts and used to from different mouth feels.

I studied the actions of yeasts quite thoroughly back in my uni days :)

    Interesting, thanx FB.

But I know that yeast cannot use fructose at least the ones used for brewing, one of the reasons you shouldn't use it in brewing beer

Big heap variety of yeasts out there so no doubt some are able to metabolise it.

Fructose is fairly easy to come by, might give it a whirl and see if its any improvement.

  14. Yeah I read through that link, raw sugar is still refined just not as refined as white sugar. The problem I am trying to point out is that sugar, raw or otherwise (from cane) is a mixture of glucose and fructose and prolly some other sugars to a lesser degree. Fructose I don't think is processable by the myc meaning you will have an amount of sugar in the LC substrate that the myc cannot use leaving plenty of room for a contam capable of processing fructose etc to get a foot in.

    Nah

Fungi uses fructose. It is a reducible sugar and I think everything in that family (yeasts and molds) can use fructose. Some fungi even isomerise glucose to fructose before use.

Fructose is thought to build the greatest tissue growth out of all sugars with other reducable sugars being zylose, galactose, glucose, arabinose and mannose with tissue building capacity in that order greatest to least

I believe that fructose metabolism is the first to be restricted by a lack of nutrients. The cells become stressed, restricting certain pathways. Could be due to the production of ammonia due to protein breakdown.

Edit: Message is ; use nutrients :)

  15. Yeah, bad form

There are usually as many or more guests as members logged on. Why are the guests not members?, its likely at least some don't care for this community, yet want to find the means to find said goodies and GD has handed it on a platter

Title says it all, Maiden's for the Masses

being able to ID acacia's is easy if one takes the time to buy/loan a book with ID keys or discriptions and gets a field magnifying glass for flower ID (which you won't need for telling melanoxylon and maidenii apart as they really are very different) and one will learn much more having truly earned a reward after making a find

And sticking a disclaimer on the end will be as about as effective as trying to break down a brick wall with your nose

Edit: Maybe it would be better to give out details by PM only to interested and ethical parties, or take a group walk up there. It may not be full proof, but maybe people will be more ethical. You must also remember a lot of disease is spread by people and the gear they bring with.

  16. yeah I have been getting that problem for the last month or two

Seems if I empty out my mail box, and there are some unopened messages deleted, it will send it in to the negative, and if it is in negetive, that message that you outlined appears, but there is an actual message in the inbox

Usually once it gets back to zero it seems to come right as opening new messages doesn't drop the count back down

If anyone has been sending messages and you don't think they are getting through, let us now!!

  17. The vaporizers you buy commercially are crap... they are just basically a soldering iron and a stupid little metal dish.

Ha! I have made one of those shonky soldering iron ones, yet I found it 100% effective :)

They just have to be made right, so that the herb is in contact with the solder tip and the soldering iron is adjustable in temperature. It will last forever and will be pretty travel hardy

Heres my directions from a while back

I made one in my youth.

Get a piece of 4x8, about 6 inches long, drill a hole through it and mount a solder iron on it (adjustable soldering iron is best). (The soldering iron will usually unscrew from the handle and can be mounted directly to the wood using the same screws)

Cut a hole in a jar lid and silicon seal it on the piece of wood so that the soldering iron is poking through the middle (The hole you cut).

Make sure the jar is big enough so that when it is put back on, the soldering iron fits in the jar.

    Make sure it seals well.

Drill a suction and a shoty hole in the wood so that both terminate in the jarside of the wood and put a bit of plastic pipe on the suction hole so you can use it easily

Use a grinder to take the bottom off a cone piece till it fits over the soldering iron tip

Pack the bowl and adjust the soldering heat accordingly (THC boils at 200).

I found that at the right temp the herb would vaporise, producing no smoke at all and leaving the herb looking untouched, but when felt by hand it has been reduced to the consistency of ash!

Get one of these soldering irons of ebay

    Adjustable Soldering Iron

It tells you the temp at the tip and you can set it to the exact temp you want between 160 and 400 depending what you have in your vaporizer (could be anything?)

Here's some interesting temperature points for Mary

Effect of temp on marys volatiles

  18. pot up the coir mix and then flush by putting hose in pot or dipping pot in buckets of water till water runs clean (or measure with ec or hydrometer), can use one big pot or seperate into small pots ready for planting once flushed

Then plant cacti ;) ( you might want to wait for soil to dry at this time of the year?)

  19. You could also use like rear sway bars as the axles and hang the load like a basket. Just cut flat drill the ends of the sway bars to accommodate the normal bike thread, brace with some RHS and weld an outrigger like bar with a lug drilled in it to fit the wheel between

Here I drew a picture, excuse the poor art work

Could do it with 2 or 4 wheels I suppose

    If you used 2 wheels

You'd need to get a pair of front forks weld a bar across the top, do a bar or swaybar across the bottom and make a prism like brace from the axel ends and the middle of the cross bar at the top. I drew a nother picture

    my 10c worth anyways
