  1. Hey :)

Welcome back, not sure if we talked in the past.
I'm in Aotearoa too, but in the South.

I keep finding land in Peria when I'm looking for bare land in the Far North. Let me know what it's like living up there.

  2. going to borrow a friends laser thermometer thingy and check for hot spots.

the heating I was referring to was on the metal fixture itself which is a commercial job.
the tubes themselves are not hot or showing discoloration and the wooden roof the fixtures are attached to isn't hot either.

  3. Necro thread resurrection instead of starting a new one..

Have grown a few of these this season and I am amazed with its effects and potential.
Just started to save the seeds if anyone is interested in trades. I have an all yellow flower variety, I am interested in the other flower types.

Have just prepared a coconut oil extraction in an attempt to make a lip balm/topical.
Has any one else experimented with making preparations of this? Poster above is no longer active.
Particularly interested in concentrated use for mouth wash, wrinkles, tooth aches and topically.

I can get vegetable glycerin and alcohol, will try with those eventually.

  4. thanks for pointing out the environmental aspect with fluros Kada, I hadn't considered that.
I will be looking at LEDs in the next couple of years.

Scored the 6x 36w set up second hand for under $50 which is nice.
They are in double 36w fixtures each with a wall plug and made by a local light distributor .

Good to see you around again, I learnt a lot from your website back in the day

  5. Cheers for the help guys.
The set up I had is fine for what I want to achieve with peres and cacti seedlings.

However the mice found their way in last night and ate some fresh grafts (Ariocarpus, Obregonia...) :(
Trying to construct something they can't get into now.

6x 36w T8s on the way for another cactus cabinet. Will post pics when its done

  6. Can anybody help me out here, I'm a bit of an electrical noob.

Have any of you put T8 fluros into a fixture with a wall plug?
I have looked at the aquarium style lights and they are really expensive, like $150 for a twin 36w setup.

Can the fixtures from Bunnings connect to a wall plug?

  7. It's been asked before in the past but quality does seem to change with these.

What is everybody using to grow their pereskiopsis and cacti seedlings under lights?
LED? CFL? Fluro T8 or T5s?

I have a square meter I would like to light artificially, how many watts and what type of light would you use for this?
I currently have 2x 35w and 1x 24w CFL cool daylight spectrum to work with. Would this be sufficient?

Also, does anyone have experience heating things with a heating cable? Just interested in safety with one of these compared to regular heating mats.

  8. Hi all

Looking for good podcasts, not necessarily ethno related. If this is already covered pls linky.

Joe Rogan touches on some cool topics/people but I don't really like him so much
I like nerdy, in depth stuff.

Ethnos, mycology, conservation, permaculture, sustainable tech, science etc

  9. Atlantean Pereskiopsis Tek.

So yesterday I moved some stuff around on the top shelf in a greenhouse and apparently found the leaky spot. Big rains last night.
Came home today to find this, put a couple holes in the side and watched 60L+ piss out
Only two labels came out (Murray Bridge Cuzco and a Psycho0 x TPM) so that was an upside.

  10. Hello everyone

    post-7609-0-79838900-1452928298.jpg

I have some Martin x seed for sale
They are from another member's plant, I will let them name themselves if they choose.

"Martin" AKA Coromandel Cacti's T. peruvianus is an exceptional glaucous blue peru.
This is probably my favourite clone out of everything I have seen growing in NZ.
Originally grown from Knize seed sold as Sulcorebutia.

The cross is presumed to be Martin x scopulicola  but there was also pachanoi flowering in the garden. (grower 90% sure it was the scop that pollinated)
As far as I know this is the first cross with Martin genetics to have been made available to the community
Please do let me know if you have heard of other Martin crosses.

I am asking $5/AUD postage included (Pacific) per portion of seeds (40-50)
As always please check your local laws when ordering plants or seeds from overseas.

Will be doing a giveaway further down the track.
Going to try and get funding first this way for postage.

  11. Hey dude seriously don't sweat it, you were the best person to work with and made where I am today possible. Which is in a much more stable and focused place.
Everything you did really meant a lot and you helped in a lot of ways to give me the security to get out of a relationship that had gone sepo.
Also just routine and transferable job skills yadayada
Couldn't imagine doing long hours in the heat without yourself and the crew you managed and formed.
Definitely saw the brutal, unrealistic expectations and stress put on to you and the other managers, pretty unsustainable for anyone to keep at that long term.

Good to hear bout Jakey and Dale, I have them on FB so get to see the odd thing.
Mmm Andrew could do so much, he's someone I would like to get in contact with to say that and thanks.
Gutted to hear that's how it ended up for the girls on site though.

Ah that's great that you have Ash and still doing the training. And no more durries.
Ludicrous about the work at the mines though :)

I'm managing some things for a vape shop over here at the moment.
Growing a lot of cacti from seed. Trying to get more slow growers like Obregonia and Arios on the go rather than armies of Trichos.
Trying to get a lot of native bush tucker growing in the garden as well which is great for a reference when out in the actual bush.

  12. good to see you back man :)
Thanks for helping me move all the way from living in a tent in random parks to working a full time job, getting some skills and actually saving some money and being able to change my life.
All whilst being a good cunt and sharing your living space.
    can't thank you enough

Glad to hear you are working less (for paycheck that is, gotta keep busy).
Get that glasshouse built and keep up the paramedicine man

You know if you ever want any kiwi native seed or anything I'm growing hit me up

Much love to you, the little one and doggo.
