Ethnobotanicals for the treatment of Psoriasis This thread is to document mine and others observations on plants and there effect on psoriasis. Please add any relevant info or queries. I am referring to plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease that presents itself as inflamed, red, flaky patches of skin where skin cell production has increased to replace every 3 - 5 days rather than the regular 28 - 30 days. Joints can become inflamed with what is called psoriatic arthritis. Nails can also be affected by psoriasis. Many factors seem to influence psoriasis including genetics, diet, stress, allergies & environment. Due to the nature of psoriasis and other autoimmune conditions there doesn't seem to be a panacea, some things work for some people and don't work for others. Your methods may vary. Botanical name - Common name Uses Parts used Description Aloe vera Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal Gel Topically reduces itching, redness and scale. Calendula officinalis - Calendula Antiviral, anti-inflammatory Flower petals Made into a balm or oil and used externally this soothes skin inflammation Cocos nucifera - Coconut Antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral Oil Use only virgin cold pressed (no chems), organic oil. Others have burnt me and tasted of solvent.. This is one of the best topicals I have found at reducing redness, scale and size of spots and moisturizing. Eating it regularly seems to improve skin health. Curcuma longa - Tumeric Anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antibacterial Root Helps with inflammation, increasing overall mobility. Contains curcumin, which apparently inhibits skin growth factors leading to psoriasis scales. Malus domestica - Apple Antibacterial, antifungal Apple Cider Vinegar Externally good for scalp psoriasis, don't use if you have broken skin as it will burn. Phormium sp. - Flax Anasthetic, antiseptic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory Gel from leaves Reduces itch, redness and scale. History of use by Maori internally and externally. Piper excelsum - Kawa Kawa Antibacterial & anti-inflammatory Leaves Adds a soothing quality to balms, helps with the burning and scale. Many accounts of use amongst Maori internally and externally. Withania somnifera - Ashwagandha Anti-inflammatory Leaves & Root Alleiviates pain in joints, itchiness and fatigue. General mobility seems improved The immune boosting and steroidal properties of this plant may be of concern when used for psoriasis. Zingiber officinale - Ginger Antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory Root Topically reduces joint inflammation. Internally reduces joint & skin inflammation, increasing overall mobility and energy.

Thanks to all that have helped me sourcing seeds, the garden is doing great! Still after Cebil seeds

Nice, will have to try this route. Chopped Leonotis leonurus flowers through an espresso machine was strong tasting and effects were much more pronounced than with smoking Haven't tried it in a normal cuppa yet

What did you do in your sacred garden today?

Dissection of a Brugmansia sanguinea fruit. 20th December 2015 Returning to the garden after being away I find one of the Brugmansia sanguineas has a fruit. These are the most common Brugmansia species around these parts, I assume because of their cold hardiness compared to other brugs. They are more often than not flowering abundantly but I had never seen fruit before. I had tried cross pollination before many times with no success. Flower on mother plant Fruit at 20/12/15 Fruit at 01/02/16 Today 10/3/15 the fruit skin started to look wrinkly and the fruit felt less firm. Decided to cut the umbilical Cross section with cut seed shown Cross section cleaned up Seed Cleaned out fruit pod -

Potted up some Acacia confusa seedlings and some thorny legumes (thanks etheraldrifter xx) with soil from the base of an established A. floribunda. Root systems looked weaker than with plants germinated in soil from established nitro fixin legumes. Planted out some Artemisia species and cultivars along with some Heimia, Leonotis & Pepino. -
Anyone else vaping or using ecigs/ejuice? Lets talk :)
solomon replied to AndyAmine.'s topic in Chill Space
Uhhmm this mouth ulcers business is concerning.. The worst I have seen is people either dry vaping/burning or getting nic'ed out. is this from too much nic? bad PG VG ratio? This is what kept me from vaping for so long. People definitely like to overcomplicate it and toy around with stuff which is fine. But, there are heaps of units with temp control etc etc (stupid proof) that you just put juice in, press button and vape. I use an evic VTC mini box.. admittedly I got my friend to update the firmware and get the settings right which I could have done with a bit of reading. Sometimes I turn the wattage up or down but thats it for tinkering.. -
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread that all the NZ members could list their Trichocereus clones/species in. Hopefully down the line when we have as many clones as you Ozzies do it will help stop things getting named twice. I will start off with some recent additions from Coromandel Cacti. I will take photos of my other clones when it's day light. (sorry bout pic quality, I will replace these photos when I borrow my partners SLR) Trichocereus species #4171 Trichocereus "Super Spiny" Trichocereus taquimbalensis Trichocereus peruvianus "Martin" (Grown from Sulcorebutia seed sourced from Knize. This photo is of a dehydrated cutting waiting to root) Trichocereus bridgesii (I'm a bit iffy bout this one being a bridgesii Trichocereus chiolensis Trichocereus pachanoi CC clone

Admired the herds growth spurts. Sowed some Tricho crosses from Ethereal Drifter & Bogfrog. Cut up some Schlumbergera/Zygocactus for grafting stock. Damn glochids. Potted up the Peres army from Bogfrog. Damn glochids. Potted up the Austrocylindroputina and regular Opuntia for grafting stock. Don't try and remove glochids with your teeth. Finally put some corrugated iron around the future rockery/cactus patch as walls/heat traps. Battled many a feral rose bush and started turning over the soil, which was remarkably fluffy. Now to start adding lime, ash, soil from the chicken coop, riversand & pebbles..

Looks like spidermite damage.

seems legit. wiki never lies https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch's_broom

might be witches broom, might be genetics or environmental factors. occams razor: just a healthy rootbase that is throwing out a good but not too crazy amount of pups. Pupping from pups is not so normal in my experience I've noticed with seedlings grown from the same genetics that some are more predisposed towards early pupping (no cutting, just normal growth) Do you know if this plant was a seedling or grown from a cut? oh and nice cactus

Succulent ID, kanna-like seed pods.

thats it, thanks -
This plant has always caught my eye but I hadn't noticed it's seed pods till now. Similar pods to Sceletium species... Anyone growing or knowing this?

Six weeks later and still doesn't look like it's gonna drop anytime soon.. Brug brujos, how long do your fruits take to ripen? -
heya, miss you also. will have to come up and visit you soon. the big peru you speak of is one I posted pics of recently flowering. It has started to lean against the fence in front of it at some point and by doing so has curved and lost probably a foot in height heres a couple pics of it finishing up flowering because the peru above decided to get its lean on, I think this one is the tallest in ground now. The "Quentin" bridgesii is getting a bit of propagation done at the moment. This one definitely reverts to normal growth and then back to melting/weird rib play.. Pretty typical for weirdo bridgesii. Here is a tip Mama Q It's on the CC website under the library listing for CC4171. thanks for the IDs and comments guys.

Well back to it after half a year away from the garden. Oh how I missed it Not too much lost, a few infestations of the mealy in the cactus house probably due to stress from dehydration and no loving adoration. Thought I would document and share some pics of various clones, I will update this thread as this happens. Apologies for image quality.. Some cuts from Coromandel Cacti CC's Super Spiny CC's T. chiloensis CC's T. cuzcoensis CC's T. bridgesii CC's T. pachanoi CC's T. peruvianus AKA Martin CC's T. spp CC4171 - Apparently came from Oreocereus weberi CC's T. taquimbalensis CC's T. werdermannianus
