  1. every dimentional aspect is omnidirectional, for example the third dimension is outward, it does not go inward, the second dimension is linear, a singular dimensionality, it cannot go contra-linear etc.

Time does not flow, perception does.

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure where you got those definitions from. As far as I know, the first dimension is linear, the second is areal and the third is voluminous. There exist 'objects' that are 2D (such as shadows, and reflections), and 'objects' which are 3D (such as matter). As far as I know, because I apply these dimensions onto reality (reality is what is), I can step forwards and backwards, and in my chosen frame of reference (the Earth), I am moving positively and negatively through the spatial dimensions. However, when I apply the concept of a time dimension (as something separating two events that occur in the same space) I find I'm unable to move negatively (based on the concept definition). I'm quite possibly missing something, so please explain.

  2. I think a few of people here are trusting their perceptions too much. There's very little that can be said about time without speculating. All I know is that time appears to flow in one direction (now why would that be, if it were indeed a dimension akin to the spatial dimensions). And that anti-matter can be interpreted (mathematically) as matter moving backwards through time. I also (through meditation and the like) have noticed that perception of time requires constant sensory input - without those senses, time does not appear to exist. My instinct is that time merely passes and has nothing to do with events and change, certainly because it's not what it appears to be, and possibly because it does not exist at all.

  3. Excuse my ignorance, but have any genetic studies been done comparing Salvia Divinorum with Coleus spp.? I remember the Mazatec legends said that a Coleus blumei was the male and Salvia D. was the female. I wonder if this is anymore more than baseless legend.

  4. I might as well make a post in this thread.

    ----Sowed Jan/Feb 2011----:

-Trichocereus peruvianus (alleged Icaros) [as of 26/03/11 - maybe one germination of 10 seeds, very unhappy]

-Trichocereus bridgesii [as of 26/03/11 - one germination of 7~, growing has stalled however :( ]

-Trichocereus pachanoi 'Omar' X peruvianus [as of 26/03/11 - 7/8 germinated, some pink/redness to seedlings, I think it's probably from lack of sun rather than sunburn]

-Astrophytum asterias 'Superkabuto' [as of 26/03/11 - 6 germ'd, 5 still alive, seem to be doing quite well]

So if anyone has any tips on stalled growth (have been spraying with dilute c&s ferts for a week now when the soil gets dry-ish), and how to tell if a seedling needs more sun or less sun - I'm all ears. Thanks. :)

    ----Update for May 2011----:

The seedlings from above are doing well, but are growing very slowly (as it's winter I suppose). The stalled bridgesii has not grown at all, and it might not make it [:(].

-Sowed 30-40~ Trichocereus open-pollinated seeds mid last month. Very high germination rate, and very vigorous growth (despite it being winter). Can't wait to see what plants are in this tray.

-Sowed 10 Turbinicarpus Lophophoroides seeds 3~ days ago - testing the use of cottage cheese containers with these. I think they will work out great.

  5. Yeah, I agree. The reason I agree is because the spines are all oriented perfectly on the large plant (most bridgesii aren't). The ribs are too numerous (although they can get to be this many [8 ribs on the littley], they rarely do). The spines on new growth are full size (biggest giveaway of cuzco). The rib margins are sinuous (huge cuzco trait). So other than spine colour and length being vaguely bridgesii, there's nothing to suggest it is.

However, I now have a very awesome bridgesii from another NZ member. :D

At the moment, I don't keep my camera where I keep my cactuses, so I can't take a photo of all the new cactuses until I remember to bring it.

  6. As my last point, I just want to make this face: -_-

And say that some people here simply don't understand how debating works. You don't discuss topics based on personal connotations of words. You use the definition, which I have provided earlier (albeit the child molester one was a bit iffy). Pleading ignorance due to other people's misuse of a word does nothing but lower you to their level.

Not all thoughts precipitate actions, and not all actions precipitate from thoughts.

  7. For one:

The Mayan calendar doesn't finish next year. It starts again. The same as 2010 ended last year, and 2011 began.

    For two:

Earth is periodically exposed to solar bursts of varying intensities. We won't die any more from [EMP caused] power-grid disruption than the people in Tokyo with no power will (which is to say, only the frail).

    For three:

Although I must admit that the night sky is barely monitored, and where it is monitored - only mildy accurately, this alone does not suggest an entire planet (!) will directly impact Earth within 2 years. Furthermore - if it DID happen, there's absolutely nothing you can do, so sit back and enjoy the ride. Current estimates place asteroid deflection technology deployment at a few years at least from detection (so we can't go all Deep Impact on that space basketball).

    For four:

Statistically, there's nothing that says disasters have increased occurence as of late. There's simply increased coverage (hug your media blanket), and more infrastructure (be it shanty towns or concrete cities) to be damaged than ever before.

So, chill out. Either you're going to gasp once that date passes and quickly sweep the hype under the carpet - or you're going to get annihilated to smithereens. No amount of praying, repenting or arm-flailing will allow anything otherwise.

  8. I cannot say for sure (or anywhere further than mere speculation for that matter), but I do know I have seen a similar thing occur on citrus trees, and AFAIK - was caused by a virus of some kind.

Edit: Just did some searching, and also various insects and insufficient water can also cause that type of curling. So how much are you watering the plant?

  9. I've missed a lot of replies... But essentially, whatever happened to 'every man is born equal'? So what some of you are saying, is that mantra is not true for all humans, and those born with an unyielding attraction to children - are not deserved of compassion, or even of life? Have a think about that. What if your son/daughter was born with a compulsion towards children? Are you going to murder/jail your child to protect another simply because of what they think? Do you honestly believe that it's not possible for your child to live as normal a life as can be, and simply act out fantasies with their partner at a later stage in life?

Or what, you think that you'll tell them to "snap out of it", just as homosexuals were told to for hundreds of years?

I invoke the concept of your own child, because the people who seem to be unable to grasp these concepts also seem to have no empathy for their common man either.

And lastly, I think we should make a call to the Palaeontological Association and let them know we've found a few Pachycephalosaurs (pronounced /ˌpækɨˌsɛfəlɵˈsɔriə/, Greek for 'thick headed lizards'). :)

  10. In my experience (limited), I've only seen insect damage on new-growth (probably because of the thinner skin). It also may have something to do with soil pH. I have one pachanoi that's getting absolutely buffeted (pun, I think) upon, while it's brother is not. The only differences between the two are: One getting eaten was in the shade for longer than the other, one getting eaten has heaps of limestone chips as the soil cover, while the other one has inert rocks. So if this not just a random discrepancy, then I would posit that shade and pH being too high could contribute to insect attack.

Where is your Loph growing? And what kind of soil are you using? The soil looked good from the photo, but if you've been using a lot of mineral-based fertilizers, then the soil micro-organisms would've died back, and that would not help either.

  11. Hello everyone. I have quite a lot of seed which I kindly received from bit, and it's too much for me to plant all at once, so why not share some around?

It's all cleaned and dried, and I will send 15 seeds to each of the first 5 posters. There should be some nice hybrids in there, as I believe the pollination was not strictly controlled. There will be genes from pachanoi, scopulicola and probably a few rarer Trichos too.

And again, these seeds are from bit, so he deserves the thanks. :)

EDIT: All have been sent off. :)

  12. Well, I'm sick to the ****ing core of people who complain (rather than whine, because whiners are just funny) without trying to find a solution. The only thing I know about solutions, is that they're always in the grey area between two extremes. And I think it's a fair compromise to have some kind of release for paedophiles. They need to have enough options so that they will not feel the need to resort to exploited children. Much as the public (given a proper chance, i.e. equal pricing) would SURELY choose free range eggs over cage eggs.

  13. Sheather: I'm glad we agree on this. I find it sad that people who think they're enlightened and tolerant (towards homosexuals and other nationalities) can be so disgusted with paedophiles. We (as a society) need to integrate them into society AND protect children. If we can land on the moon, we can do this too. Maybe some kind of animated pornography amnesty? Maybe Japan has the problem solved?

Edit: Here are the definitions of the words. So there are some people here (who shall not be mentioned by name) who are not even using the words correctly.

paedophile or esp ( US ) pedophile (ˈpiːdəʊˌfaɪl) [Click for IPA pronunciation guide]

    — n

a person who is sexually attracted to children

    child molester

    noun
