Raspberry leaf and Bearberry sound like good ideas! Yes I realize smoking anything is bad but the nicotine makes me super dizzy and feel like crap.
-
I will check out the garden on my next trip, thanks!
Any more tips?

Haha I'd prefer something that grows naturally that I don't have to alter (except by drying/curing).
Are there any strains of tobacco that are low/no-nicotine? If not somebody should make one!

I am looking for something to smoke that tastes like tobacco but doesn't have nicotine. I'm looking for something to cut my ciggerettes with... I know all about wild dagga, lotus, etc. but I am looking for something that tastes and smokes a bit like tobacco (also looking for something that doesn't have nasty chemicals in it that I can smoke daily and not worry about). Any ideas?

That's what I'm doing now, this is for the new trip, 2017. - written from Matucana, Peru.

I know I need to see the Shuar and Kofan but I don't know where the most intact communities are? Any ideas?

I was growing to grow this plant this year, do you think i can cross the reaper with a bhut jolokia or a trinidad scropion?

Also I've been looking for hell like the Trichocereus collection locations map. Can anybody link me please? Also maps of the ranges of Coca and Ayahuasca would be great!

Also planning to hit the Shibundoy valley (see the book "One River") and Huancabamba in Peru... any other "MUST SEE" locations for the ethnobotanist? Also... ruins in Colombia? I heard there are some coca chewing statues.
-
Does Coca REALLY grow in Trujillo? I'm fairly close to there now. I have a hard time believing that. Here in Lima it's desert. I'm headed to Matucana in a week though! Any tips on what to do there besides the obvious?

I am planning on traveling in Central and South America next year with a foucs on Colombia, Ecuador and North Peru. I was wondering... what is the most north location they traditionally chew coca? What about ayahuasca? Any ideas? Any must-see sights in this are (excluding Peru, I know what I need to see there) or ethnobotanical mysteries to investigate?

There is a snake that is caught up in northern QLD and used as a substitute for alcohol by some aboriginals. They catch a heap of them, put them in a bucket or bin, and then proceed to get bitten. Each snake has 2 good bites and then it is let go. Guys can sit around for a few hours getting bitten. THe effects are said to be much like alcohol without the sickness. I\'m not going to put the name as i don\'t want to write the wrong thing and have someone die.
I must know what this snake's name is!

Thanks!

Oh wow.... and what are it's reported effects?
-
Thanks guys! If anybody runs across any other names please post them, I'm trying to make a list ;)

I am currently in the Peruvian Andes and am looking for other names for "Huachuma" or "San Pedro", both of which seem to be Spanish or have Spanish influence.
I have heard "Huachuma" means dizzy but I have also heard this is incorrect. A Quechua friend told me "chuma" means "not sweet". "San Pedro", of course, means "St.Peter", who is said to hold the keys to heaven.

Trichocereus peruvianus.

Has anybody ever heard of Laurelia novae-zelandiae? It seems that it is used as a pain killer in New Zealand. Does anybody have anymore info on this plant? -
Does anybody have this plant growing? Anybody know where to get plants or seeds? Anybody done a personal bioassy?

We know them as "Ghost Pipes" in North America and they have medicinal (possibly even psychoactive) uses, tho I'm not sure about this species.
