I agree with Paradox we have to trust plants. There are different levels of trust, some plants we can eat while others we can make medicine out of but are poisonous. Also a plant can be trusted but what man does with that plants can't necessarily be trusted. Evo Morales had it right when he said "the coca leaf is not cocaine". I don't believe plants have spirits. I'm not sure of any cultures that do believe plants have spirits.

You can import all the cocaine you want, just have a license to do so, or be ballsy enough to try and get away with it. The government is placing more and more restrictions on cold and flu / headache medicine, of course they are going to make sure no coca leaf (cocainzed) is allowed in. How much lime are you adding? Try chewing without lime for a few minutes to form a wad. When adding lime go with a small amount and don't apply to gums or mouth but into the wad itself. Let them have a 3-4 sets of leaves. As far as hardening off goes remove all the leaves from the well established plant, leaving only the tiny growing tips. Put your plants into a shady spot and keep the soil moist. The new leaf growth will smaller and tougher. Fertilize in the summer with liquid fertilizer or manure.

There is quite a bit of research being put into this area of science and you can take "additives" to stay younger. Sly Stallone is somewhat of a good example, as he uses steroids and other growth hormones. The problem with this stuff though is when it turns on you it usually leads to heart, connective tissue damage, liver failure, cancer, etc. The biggest problem we have on Earth is that we are constantly bombarded with comic radiation and that is one of the main perpetrators to disease and death.
