  1. Hey everyone

I went for a walk around uni the other day and found what appears to be a Dodonea sp. of some sort - does can anyone confirm that from the pictures?

Also I decided to take a picture of this other random plant i see growing wild around town (mostly in poor rocky/clay soil) looks interesting, so I was hoping someone may be able to id that one too (red flower)

The seed pods and plant arent (werent) sticky, but dodonea viscosa apparently is, which is why Im not so sure

And this is the red flower thing - Im not too sure, but i think they are usually kind of spiny, and they are a low growing shrub (usually not much taller than a meter or so), but appear to spread to about 2m wide

    thank you :)

  2. As far as i know ibogaine is basically prescription level as far as scheduling goes (raw ibogaine and extracts). Th section you quoted from the webstore is to do with importing and exporting, so its different if its already in australia.

Also, Iboga plants seem to grow as a small shrub from what iv seen (pictures, posts online etc), that sort of ends up sprawling out a bit. I have two in pots, and they do grow quickly (especially the roots) and need to be repotted often, but i doubt keeping it potted for a couple of years will do any serious harm. In victoria you will need to keep them indoors from about early to mid autumn, because they dont do so well even when its a bit cool.

Id imagine it would be possible to run an iboga clinic in Aus, but everything would need to be manufactured here too. Ibogaine is not FDA approved though, so its unlikely that would last and would probably result in iboga plants being banned

  3. If you are doing anything other than PF Tek (brown rice flower cakes) then you will need a pressure cooker otherwise the substrate wont sterilize completely. If you are only doing pf though the steam sterilization method will work fine and a pressure cooker is a bit of an overkill.

But as migraineur mentioned, a pressure cooker is useful for plenty of other things, so it probably wont be a waste of money, and it means you can use grains and other things for spawn if you choose to after you've had enough of the PF Tek

  4. Dont have any experience with nicotina spp, but my datura tends to die back after a year (i live in the tropics). If it doesnt completely die it gets weak and prone to pests (more so than usual - the bugs love them). i usually pull them out at that point

  5. I think in the future air travel will be too ridiculous for most people to bother because of all the security measures. its pretty stupid already. Iv had one of those swab test things done to me last time i flew too. I think its to detect explosives (even though as sheather mentioned simple everyday objects that are allowed on planes can be a security risk anyway)

  6. Lol yea - should have done that when i first potted them up once it had the plants and soil and everything in it i had no hope of lifting it (thing weighs a ton). The main issue was i didnt realise how swampy the area got after heavy rain - lesson learned :)

  8. Its a weak sweet smell with a sort of 'leafy' smell as well - like ph said, its hard to describe, but if you've smelt it before you would recognize it. its not a strong smell, but its most noticeable on hot afternoons on plants in full sun. not sure if you would see any khat in adelaide - may be a bit cold there, but then again perth is khat central and it gets pretty chilly too.

  9. Iv cut down gnosis and eileen already. eileen was really bad at the base (almost rotted all the way through) and i now have the stump from gnosis and a tip cutting. i completely emptied the pot today and turns out the other bridge that was in there had the same problem, so im glad i did that.

The pot they were in now has a single terscheckiiXpsycho0 that im trying to grow into a monster - its doubled its size in a few months and has been the most tolerant of extreme amounts of water. i also plan to keep it off the ground this time

  10. Most of them are doing fine, and i think the main problem is that the pot was on the ground rather than up a bit higher. also it was in the rain a lot.

iv cut the 2 affected ones down and im trying to callous them up now inside away from some of the humidity. i think they all may need to go under covers if it starts raining heavily again. last year the couple of cacti i had during winter really took off (our winter is dry if you've never lived in townsville), so maybe i should be keeping them dry in summer and watering frequently during winter - which is the opposite of what you would normally do, but only the night time temp really changes between summer and winter here as well as the humidity levels.

  11. The pot probably doesnt have the best drainage, but now you mention it i think the fact its on the ground has a lot to do with it (blocking the holes). and yea i think it has scale too - might have to get the white oil out tonight.

its waaay too humid here to allow it to dry out completely at the moment, so maybe cutting will be the only option. ill try and move the pot up off the ground and out of the rain more too

EDIT: ugh - just had another look, and it appears the eileen in fron of gnosis in the picture is also rotting (much worse). its rotting around the base - sort of got a cave in it. i think im going to have to cut the eileen and the gnosis and maybe take them inside away from some of the humidity and start over. its a shame tho, because the delosperma and the other bridgesii in the pot are doing really well and it looks nice (apart from big black chunks on the cacti :( )

  12. Well as you all should know, QLD is pretty much under water (though mostly in the south east, we've had plenty up north too). All the rain, and the crazy humidity is not going too well with a lot of my plants and especially cacti.

Iv had a small pedro get like a boil (ooozie rot patch), but its recovered since, and all my sceletium is looking real sad. the main thing im worried about though is my Gnosis (peruvianus) - i just noticed (must have happened in the last couple of days) a huge patch of black rot. im basically wondering what id be best to do. the cactus is about 40-50cm tall and the rot patch is about 10cm+ long - should i just cut it off a bit below where it is rotting and try and move the pot more under shelter?

the main problem (and the reason i cant just take it out of the pot and put it in some perlite or sand till it dries up is the pot its in:

    gallery_6534_363_108871.jpg

those cacti have been in there a few months, so id need to take everything out of the (surprisingly heavy) pot to get gnosis out. nothing else is suffering.

    here is the rotted area

    gallery_6534_363_1498161.jpg

Its funny, every season leaves me wishing for the next (we only have summer and winter in Townsville) for one reason or another. any advice?

  13. Thanks for the advice =] i repotted it and included blood and bone with potash and trace elements. its looking a lot worse than in the first picture, but thats because i delayed in repotting. hopefully it recovers. im probably going to buy another one soon too - i love these plants

  14. Iv only tried the red fleshed one and one with white flesh but unknown skin colour (with high tea at raffles in singapore B) ). Iv heard yellow is the best tasting but red flesh has a stronger flavour - but taste is pretty subjective.

I sewed out most of the seeds i collected yesterday, so we'll see how that goes. they were really sticky, so hard to put down in any order.

And the whole flower and little bud is dropping off too. this picture shows what i think is a developing fruit and one that will fall off soon.

    gallery_6534_363_209972.jpg

and here's more of the ones that are falling off and a bud that will probably open tonight (i took the picture yesterday)

    gallery_6534_363_211160.jpg

  15. Thanks for the tip kada - might go out and do that when the last couple of flowers open up and i get up their to pollinate. so far all but about 4 flowers have gone yellow and are about to drop off, the others appear to be developing fruit (the buds are still green and swelling a bit).

and PH, i pretty much did what you just said =] i decided to buy a fruit while i was out last night and now i have probably about 100 seeds (from maybe an inch or two of fruit) which are the red center variety that im going to try and sprout when thy dry out. itll be interesting to see what colour fruits mine has (hopfully either red with a white center or yellow).

Ill probably post some more pictures later, and it would be nice to see some from other people who have had success

  16. Do you mean cut the actual vine part that continues to grow past the flower? the flowers have all wilted now and i have (attempted to) pollinate most of the flowers that i could reach, so hopefully most of the lower ones should produce fruit soon.

  17. Well its growing up an Ironbark with a large sapodilla next to it, so it receives some (dappled) shade maybe for a couple of hours a day, but otherwise it gets quite a bit of sun.

Noone goes out of their way to fertilize it at all, and its growing out of a small pot (the roots have well and truly destroyed the pot and run down to the ground). Its right next to the driveway and the soil (lik e the rest of the townsville area - except near the ocean) is basically solid clay most of the time with poor drainage. It is near where the lawn is frequently watered though. i think flowering is triggered by a well watered plant that then receives a shit load of extra water then maybe some sun. i can only comment on a plant this size and age (5-10years) though because none of my other smaller ones have flowered. but it flowers most years around this time, we just never get fruit.

i could start feeding it to see if that brings on more flowers, but i doubt it will be effective because of the fact its clay with poor drainage that then also slopes down to the driveway. any excess water quickly turns the driveway into a small river, then the whole yard turns into a swamp.
