  1. Thanks culebra22, i looked up some pictures on google and they match it pretty much perfectly. Also one of the flowers looks like it is about to burst open, so tonight may be the first night i get to see a flower :) finish work at 9:30 that would be something nice to come home to :) and i can see slightly white petals starting to come through under the reddy spikes now which makes me agree even more with the ID

thanks again man, when they open i will post some pictures :D

  2. Well i now have three flowers and some funky new branches growing... it is like the plant learnt that by growing branches that hang they hit the ground and get all rotten, so it is growing with ribs for support straight up in the air quite cool really... flowers aren't open yet but they are huge, and have started to curl back upwards (were hanging straight down initially) its really cool, loving it :)

heres some pictures maybe they will help with an id

    cheers.

  3. i am attmpting to germ quite a few of those seeds. i have got the following in water for the day(almost boiling when poured in)

11 x acacia fimbriata (i think so anywho) cant really remember what the tree looked like identifying by seeds

    15 x acacia podalriafolia

    30 x Delonix Regia

and i planted probably 50+ of the Mimosifolia into seedraising mix. will be doing the palm lillies after lunch.

putting them all into long rectangle pots until about an inch or two tall then transplanting into their own little planted pots (scored about 500 from greencorps :D)

sadly cant find the falcata seeds i had but oh well hopefully there will still be some there... hoping to germ shitloads, plant some locally and give some to friends.

hunting down a salvia clipping to add to the collection, i know its illegal but i find it hard to believe a copper is going to come in and pick me up on the salvia in my back yard.. I have lots of plants it would blend in nicely...

  4. Thanks for your help man. i have a few seeds off it but they got mixed up with some others :S going to try and germinate most of them anyways and plant them around the area. Also got some seeds/berries of

    Cordyline rubra - Palm Lily

Jacaranda mimosifolia - i think its mimosifolia same color flowers just from my googling...

Acacia podalyriifolia - heaps around here actually i love them look so cool

Delonix regia - poinciana beautiful trees

    Alpinia caerulea - native ginger

going to research how to germ each of these now any input would be helpful... got the potting mix and some trays, i know to soak my poinciana seeds in warm water and am starting with them.

  5. Something that has been done before and a group of friends i know i have been talking about is buying hemp handtowels, getting their names stitched into it and sending them a letter/brochure, made on hemp paper, outlining the medical benefits of cannabis and the amount prohibition is costing us/making the underground organizations/failing on the whole.

I think that sending them a cannabis related item such as the handtowel and hemp paper would at least show them in some way that there is more to cannabis than just getting high. Furthermore a few personal notes from people regarding the medicine that cannabis has replaced for them wouldn't go astray.

  6. It is like it heard us talking about flowers, went out to water it today and it appears a red flower is appearing :D

this is assuming the flowers grow from the same area as the new branches/leaves, with the vein leading upto it. Should be great, hoping to get more than just the one !

havent got the hanging pot yet, decided to buy a tall ground pot, because some of the branches are growing straight up i think it will look better at around waist level. will edit in some pictures once i get my keys and camera outta my car.

  7. gallery_31518_666_1061219.jpg

found a larger version of what i think is the Acacia Podalyriifolia just next to the little one and it was seeding :) the seed pods are a purpleish red color on the outside and pinky red inside with a velvety feel to them like the leaves, beautiful really ! didnt get the best pictures while i was there but got a few never the less. This is one that i would want to grow in my yard as i am fascinated by the leaf structure it has.

    gallery_31518_666_155620.jpg

Acacia cultriformis seems to match this one a bit more a bit more as the tips of the leaves are pointed as opposed to fully oval. i am really unsure :S it has the velvety seeds on it, after comparing the two pics they look like different plants. Quite a few acacia growing in this little area, was a large forest, demolished for houses they left a few acacia around the edges which are spreading slowly :)

and finally another one in the same area which is seeding currently, seeds aren't ready yet so i left them, has red stems where the growth is new and the seed pods are black with cool red accents.

anywho guys gotta water my herbs ;)

edit: by the way, reguardless of what they turn out to be if anyone wants any seeds from any of them let me know and i will grab you some. postage is cheap i can do it for free, a regular envelope would suffice shouldn't it for posting a few seeds ?? can put in a letter to so it don't feel funny.

  8. Hey guys thanks for all the helpful pointers. I will do the mission back upto the plants after some cones and get some clos up shots/look for the bits you guys pointed out.

that is the hardest part for me, knowing which features of the plants distinguish them from others. I Will post back in n hour or two with some more info about each of the plants, including some phyllose measurments and so on which should help with the id dramatically. I will also take notes on the stems color/structure of leaves and so on.

many thanks for the help, going to take some saddy bags with me to collect some seeds in so i can label them and keep em seperate, my last ones got mixed up in my pocket.

  9. Well there are shitloads of really cool looking plants growing around the area near mine and i am finding it hard to identify them for the most part. There was quite a few which looked like acacias but i found a few rather fascinating ones, there is one plant growing which looks like some of the larger trees but is growing almost like a ground-cover, quite fascinating, got many seeds off it would like to try and get an id, i can get close up shots of the seeds/seed pods if necessary. i looked up a few and from the look of the seeds/seed pods as well as phyllodes i sort of think MAYBE acacia fimbriata.

    th_116_0078.jpg

Also i have a crapload of poinciana seeds iu am going to germ shortly (my fave plant pretty much, love the flowers and leaf structure) though from what i have heard upto 10 years until they flower :( but never the less i am going to germ around 50 seeds had about 75% strike rate last time with them and gave away seedlings to friends for their yards etc as well as using a few in my landscaping company, i sprout my own plants and plant out gardens with them where possible as a "cost effective garden refurbishment" as opposed to completely re-doing it i tidy up whats there and add a few bits and pieces too make it like new.

here is another one i found, has really cool looking leaves, it is sort of reminiscent of an acacia phlebophylla although i may be wrong, i found a large tree which has had a small grassfire around it and now heaps of babies coming through.

    th_116_0075.jpg

have heaps more, but for some reason our internet wont let me upload pics properly. takes like 20 tries per picture :'(

anyways got a few more up found this one, has similar structure to a plant i saw at bunnings, forgot the name though... leaves are almost furry its wierd and cool. i just love the colour.

    th_116_0083.jpg

another random shot of something i found.

  10. Zelly they are gorgeous, i cant wait until iget a flower *fingers crossed*, it seems much better this year though growth wise putting on aheap of new "branches" and so on the hanging pot would be a great idea for them. as it would keepthe branches off the ground, i will get one soon. And some DECENT potting mix. lol

I really hope i can get my hands on some more Epiphyllum as the way they grow really fascinates me. And the flowers look incredible. I got some more pictures of some cool features on it but the credit has just about run out, i will upload them tonight after work,

one of the branches has sort of seperated from the rest of the plant, it then grew out roots which have solidly re-attached it to the main plant looks cool. also the way it gets the ribs in its new stem for strength is awesome, it is growing straight up in the air compared to the others which are hanging down, bizzarre but beautiful.

  11. The top one isnt actually a cactus, its Euphorbia trigona

the bottom one looks like it might be disocactus nelsonii, could just as easily be an Epiphyllum. hard to tell for sure without a flower

Thanks shortly, after having a flick through some stuff now knowing the right direction i have found the second one to be an Epiphyllum, the Disocactus has a different shaping in the "branches" and so on. I will have to wait until flower to figure out what variety but never the less at least i have an idea.

Anyone have any idea how long after a cutting has rooted it would be likely to flower ? they look beautiful i cant wait :D found some pics on the net where people have put a climbing style frame around the pots, might try and get some of my branches tied up a bit to get her of the ground, also any ideas on the browny spots, gradually forming into holes in the plant :( it looks sick.

thanks for the ID help, if i get any more i will just post them in this thread to keep things un-cluttered.

  12. Hi Darkspark, the first is some Euphorbia and the second one could be an Epicactus but the pic is too small to say for sure. bye Eg

fuck i hate photobucket, never uploads my pics propperly >=[

and any ideas on tratments for the fungusy brownyblack spots ??? I would really like to heal them as i am hoping that she will finally flower this year, started as a 5CM cutting 2 years ago now its a beatutifull largeish plant

  13. ok so these were a few cuttings given to me a year or two ago by some friends. Never found out what they are and now my first one is starting to get sick, and i need too figure out what it is.

getting these little brown dimples/brown spots on it, appears as though its moisture related almost looks like acid burn type shit, as well as yellowing leaves. only in shitty cheap potting mix and i haven't been fertilizing them enough lately (maybe the cause of yellowing)

The guy told me it was a "night cactus" or some crap no idea why or if it is relevant in any way. i just love the way the new centre branch is growing, with ribs for strength i will get some close ups tomorrow morning.

also the other one(first pic) is just some crazy thing that grows everywhere around here its pretty cool

  14. Don't really know about the mushrooms up your way, but I think your looking for the dung lovers. Look in cow paddocks after rain.

Hey jabez, i can find plenty of them, for the most part what i will be finding and putting in here is some of the wierd things i find whilst walking down the bush. Sometimes i see a spot which looks perfect and have a looksee and find something like these :)

Plenty of gold tops up here, not entirely sure which variety will have too try and identify them properly next time.

  15. I found a patch of these growing from both the rotting log itself and the timber "dust" and debris around it. The area is Very moist, flooding when it rains for quite a while. For the most part shaded. Found probably close too 15 of them total in the one area and a few more similar ones splattered here and there nearby. As yet i haven't managed too get a sporeprint as i didnt bring any home. But i will go down before work tomorrow and bring one back and leave it over the course of the day too drop its spores. As well as this having it there infront of me will make it easier for me too describe the gills etc.

didn't appear too have any blue stains on it at all either ;)

  16. Hey guys i have quite a few cacti growing as it is but am looking for a larger peruvianus of Bridgesii(spelling probably wrong) too add too my collection. Probably a 20-40cm cutting would be ample preferably a top cutting nit again i am not fussy. If you have a few different types that you are looking too get rid of i may buy a few. Let me know some prices and i will get back too you.

At the moment i don't really have anything WORTH trading back too you all. Hopefully in future i will be able too be more useful ;)

  17. Here's my "Serra Blue" T. peruvianus from S.S.

    pics109.jpg

i love the picture of the top, looks so cool the way the new growth is bulging through :), i love cacti and succulents, will have too get photos of some of my other ones too try and get IDs. Here is a picture of what i believe too be a baby peruvianus .

Good work guys :) great helpful ID threads, nice too see an overall contribution from the group rather than just one persons post/thoughts on the matter.

(sorta had too make this post been browsing for ages, not sure if you get kicked if you dont post or what the go is, so HI ALL)
