  1. Hi volcanicplug....

Yeah... that actually makes a lot of sense.... as I have been trying to find where the mother plants could be .... and there does not seem to be any mature acacia's that look the same as the younger plants (1) but heaps of the more mature Acacia's (2) with the less "broad" phyllodes......... !!!

...so I'm guessing you're correct with the assumption that the younger plants are also leiocalyx !!!..... cause there doesn't seem to be any mature plants with the green/grey branchlets....!!!

...I'll just have to look around again to check...!!!!

    Thanks for the reply....!!!!!

  2. Hi PD.....

    Thanks for the reply......

I had a look on wattle web... and Acacia binervia does look a lot like number 2...!!!!

I am very interested in acacia number 1 .... it has amazing phyllodes.... some of them are so broad as you can see in pic 2

...anyone else have any takes on the ID's.....????

  3. Hey Guys..... wondering if any of you could help me out....

Been seeing these acacia's around my home and work area for the last while.... and I have really wanted to know what species they are..... tried to have a look on Wattle net ... but to no luck.... I just suck at IDing plants...!!!!

Both acacia's are in the Gold Coast area....!!!

    1) This plant is only about a year old..... and has finally started flowering!

I have noticed a few of the that came up in the last year...!!!

If anyone would be so kind as to help me identify these beautiful plants..... I would be greatly apreciated!!!!

  4. obviously the fatter the more weight in a foot length so more potent. I dont doubt that people have plants which are strong enough to take a foot of cactus for a dose, just in be wary that this seems the exception rather then the rule. Rev's i would think are backenburgs but you would have to check with him.

1.5kg of Pach purchased from Rev boiled down and reduced ended up being the most entertaining day of my life....!!!!!!

....as said earlier by Teo.... I don't measure by size.... but more by weight....!!!!.... and this is all dependent on strain and conditions grown in I guess....!!!!!

  5. ....why not just go get from your local Chem Supply Store......!!!! (have a look in the yellow pages....!!!!!)

...I bought a litre of isopropyl alcohol for about $20..... and I bet it's the purest your gonna find anywhere out there....!!!!!

.....I went in with cash...... and no one asked any questions......!!!!!

  6. ....yep.... in your region you would want to wait till it gets really cold.... and wet...... then look around for subs...... if you do a search around here ...... you will find many pics...... and get a good idea of the type of environment they grow in......!!!!!!

....just make sure that you got the right thing....... as you said your life is worth more than that....!!!!!

  7. ... hmmmm.... I wouldn't dare try eat any of those....... !!!!!

    .... firstly..... where are you.........

...and secondly...... at the moment you are only going to find dung loving mushrooms that are of any value....!!!!!!

.... from around Mid Northern NSW... up into Queensland...... not too sure about WA though.....!!!!!

..if you're down south..... you'll have to wait till it gets really cold and wet during the winter months......

... be very careful ... as there are other species that do also go blue....!!!!!!

  8. 4.Black Dragon stated that he believed the lingering effects could be eliminated by preparing Bridgesii with heat. What does he base this belief on?

....With the heat treatment eliminating the lingering effects.....

Mesc is very heat tolerant..... therefore by boiling the material down... you might be retaining the Mesc..... but breaking down many of the other alkaloids found in the fresh cactus.....!!!!!.... so by consuming fresh... you should have different effects to boiling down to a tea then consuming...... and even more so when going as far as an AB extraction..... where only certain alkaloids will dissolve in the selected solvent.... therefore loosing even more of the total alkaloids found in the cacti.....!!!!! (bring it closer to just pure Mesc....!!!)

Therefore it is usually not advised to do AB extractions on Peyote... as you loose the more "magical" effects... due to the loose of the alkaloid "cocktail"...associated with the cacti......

...and as far as the poisoning...... will this be due to the tyramine content .............?????????

  9. ....I wouldn't really call this amazing or anything.......!!!

.... But it is the first Loph to Pach Graft I've done.....!!!!

...and it's doing perfectly well...... doubled in size since the graft.... (2 months ago....!!!!)

The reason why I did the graft was that the Loph had gone all soft... and seemed to be getting some sort of root rot....!!!!

....which in the end was not the case...... BUT... fortunately I left the rooted "stump" as it was in the soil.... and now have noticed about 5 very small pups emerging from the side of the Loph "stump".......!!!!!!!...... :drool2: ......!!!!!

    L. Williamsii Grafted onto Echinopsis pachanoi

The stock was approx. 6 month old tip cutting

...the scion was approx. 3 years old at time of grafting...!!!!

...and it is kept outside .. and only gets full/direct afternoon sun

atm.... being watered twice a week....!!!!!

I hope this makes you happy ACE.....!!!!!.......

  10. ...I'm sure people have told you this before...... but .... erowid.org.... is a very good starting point for all questions.... especially if you want to know dosage.... and what to expect from a specific substance....... just search the trip reports.....!!!!! you can also find many recipes on how to make Cactus Syrup....and even to AB extract to salt......!!!!!!....

.....from my experience..... read, read..... and read some more...... and everything will be revealed.....!!!!!!.......

  11. Is mesc water soluble? Is that how it is boiled down (in water), or are the nasties absorbed into the water and boiled off the mesc? Sorry if this is a dumb question :P

All natural (organic) sources of Mesc. are in salt form...... therefore soluble in water.....!!!!... the only way to get rid of the "nasties"...as you put it..... is to do an AB Extraction.....!!!!!!......

  12. also, a couple have turned tan/brown, are they dying? should I expect this to happen to all if I dont adjust conditions? also, is the method for growing peyote the same for all trichs? thanks again guys

....the tan brown to red...... would be from too much light...!!!!!..... put something over them to filter the light more...... or move them further from the light source if using artificial lighting.....!!!!

  13. ....and in the long run... it's going to effect you and I..... doesn't matter if it's in the US or in the UK that the authorities are watching..... if they put down heavier laws regarding the possesion of Trich cacti...... Australia will soon follow..... and yeah..... we might have our gardens raided......!!!!!.....

I find people on some of those forums to be very careless sometimes....!!!!..... but hey... what do I know...... .....!!!!

btw..... did you also read about the way he started pointing fingers at other sellers in the UK.... !!!!!

....hhhhmmmm..... it only leads to total ban....!!!!!

  14. .... as far as I know..... the person who actually made that vid..... was supposedly arrested in the UK.... for the import of a Class A... substance....... he tried to import 2kg's of dried cactus....!!!!!.... not because of the vid though.....!!!!!!...... but if the authorities know about it..... I'm sure it won't go in his favour.....

...a bit irresponsible if you ask me....!!!!!!

  15. Wow. i don't know what other Bunnings are like, but all the ones around here only have small cacti with cute labels!

Nothing like the monsters I sometimes see posted here and stated as being sourced from Bunnings. Maybe there's a section I'm not looking at?

I was under the impression (obviously false) that Bunnings only sold T. scopulicola and spachianus?

Are there any Bunnings' in Brisbane where such large specimens are readily available?

    Hey Sobriquet......

I have often seen +- 30cm T.pachanoi tip cuttings at the Bunnings in Burleigh on the Gold Coast.....

..not too sure about in Brissie though.....!!!!! Next time you down here.... pop in ... and you might be lucky.....!!!!!!

  16. If you read a bit further on in that article..... it actually says that Sarpa Salpa was consumed as a recreational drug........!!!!!!!

    Sarpa salpa

The fish consumed by the men was a member of the Sparidae family and is commonly known as the Salema porgy.

The fish reaches a size of around 50cm/20" and occurs through much of the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. You can view the distribution of Sarpa salpa on Practical Fishkeeping's Fish Mapper.

According to the paper, Sarpa salpa was consumed as a recreational drug in the Med during the Roman Empire.

For more details on the hallucinatory fish poisonings see the paper: de Haro L, Pommier P (2006) - Hallucinatory fish poisoning (ichthyoallyeinotoxism): two case reports from the Western Mediterranean and literature review. Clin Toxicol (Phila). 2006;44(2):185-8.
