    Lovely Brug on Gardening Australia

Check out the philosophy and creativity section for an experience report - I dunno if I'd call it recreational but I definitely found it insightful.

New Active Ingrefient in Codral Cold and Flu

I dosed DXM (2nd-3rd Plateau doses numerous times) whilst on Effexor, and also whilst on Luvox. No medication interaction. No serotonin syndrome. No death. Personally I choose to never go near that stuff again. Yucky yucky chemy blech. Not a K fan either.

    Suburban Waterwise Gardening

Hey people!!! I am just curious to know what people out there are doing to limit water wasteage in their ethno garden (especially if you have lots of pots) as I figure I could probably benefit from some tips. I'll start with the main one I have been doing... At the moment 95% of the water used on my plants (unless mixing fertiliser in, making seed trays, or misting) comes from my shower. I have sacraficed about 1\5th of the floor in my small shower with using buckets to catch water - and I just siphon (when filled to the brim) or pour it directly into the watering can. Just from this one step I couldn't believe how much water I was conserving. With 2 people using this shower I usually manage to get about 15-20L each day. Besides from that I use mulch on garden beds. Anybody else want to share???

    Fuck!

Don't think organ failure is all that likely... however: "The organophosphate insecticides are cholinesterase inhibitors. They are highly toxic by all routes of exposure. When inhaled, the first effects are usually respiratory and may include bloody or runny nose, coughing, chest discomfort, difficult or short breath, and wheezing due to constriction or excess fluid in the bronchial tubes. Skin contact with organophosphates may cause localized sweating and involuntary muscle contractions. Eye contact will cause pain, bleeding, tears, pupil constriction, and blurred vision. Following exposure by any route, other systemic effects may begin within a few minutes or be delayed for up to 12 hours. These may include pallor, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headache, dizziness, eye pain, blurred vision, constriction or dilation of the eye pupils, tears, salivation, sweating, and confusion. Severe poisoning will affect the central nervous system, producing incoordination, slurred speech, loss of reflexes, weakness, fatigue, involuntary muscle contractions, twitching, tremors of the tongue or eyelids, and eventually paralysis of the body extremities and the respiratory muscles. In severe cases there may also be involuntary defecation or urination, psychosis, irregular heart beats, unconsciousness, convulsions and coma. Death may be caused by respiratory failure or cardiac arrest" ---http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/dienochlor-glyphosate/dimethoate-ext.html It's interesting that if somebody stole and ate an ethnohead's cactus which was sprayed with an organophosphate, they'd probably be able to find some atropine containing plants somewhere in the garden as well which is used to help treat organophosphate poisioning.

    Earthcore =- Sydney

Hmmm now Convergence sounds like a party indeed. Once again we'll have to see how I'm going for cash, if I can score a ride there, and whether or not my mate wants me to celebrate his birthday by pubbing with him on that saturday night... which I'm not all that keen for. Gonna be scraping it to even make it down to the sydney meet this weekend due to the fucking rain causing my gardening jobs to get cancelled...

    Options for shifting sleeping patterns/insomnia.

Okay... I just woke up at 4am, and I got to sleep at 1am. I've had delayed sleep onset for a long time, but every now and then I get sleep maintainance insomnia as well. Fuckn lame. GABA sounds interesting though.

SAB will stop selling Nic0tiana seeds

Must be a pretty damned good reason to be writing like they do in spam letters. Am wondering whether such an action would be applied to the AFSR if it's that serious...

    Options for shifting sleeping patterns/insomnia.

If you're gonna take melatonin - make sure you stock up on Calea as well to take advantage of the dream enhancement . I don't know if they even sell it here - I remember when I first tried it, my dad had purchased it in America as he has to travel a bit and uses it for a jetlag cure. He had to purchase it there because it's not approved here or something, and infact I remember seeing it straight away walking past a pharmacy in Singapore airport but have never seen it here... so you may need to mail order. I would say 3mgs would be a good dose.

    do ants damage cacti roots?????

Ants aren't a problem but if you find ants attracted to parts of your plants it can be an indication of another pest outbreak. Pests such as aphids or soft scales produce honeydew which attract ants - and in many cases a symbiotic relationship between ants and pests can be seen.

    GRASS HOPPERS!

I'd say use garlic as a preventitive - for the time being invest in some rogor or pyrethrum spray at your local nusery or garden centre.

    Guilty of Eileen abuse.. :(

Violence against woman - Australia says NO! Besides a peace offering of flowers, and maybe a movie\dinner, if you're paranoid about rot just let the soil dry out a bit more before watering it again I reckon, and just smell the soil around the base every now and then to see if it should be dug out and aired for a bit. Shouldn't need anything else as they would be pretty tough I imagine. Judging on how bad you think the fall was and how developed you think the roots would be, maybe pulling it up gently would be alright but you might not want to risk disturbing the roots. Give it a few days and see how it goes.

    psychedelica:rise or decline?

Hmmm come to make me think that statistics don't really matter, but what matters is that there will always be a movement devoted to gaining insight but also trying to make a good impact, and also realising the value of living in this world with an ecological conscience. So many people have the potential to start recognising things in their existance that they normally don't see or choose to ignore... and if they make that choice there will always be a way for them to find and collaborate with likeminded people dedicated to these things. At least we can influence the people we meet (if they show an interest), and providing a world to let them realise how they can change their lives and perceptions of reality to a different world. What I can't deny is a feeling of momentum gaining, and combined with organisation (which I feel is increasing), it could potentially lead to a positive dent on society in the future.
