Hello there
I'm a newie to the interest area of Mycology however my knowledge is so limited I wouldn't dare to propose (or consumme) anything about the topic, beyond a recipe for Shittake Mushroom Pie with caramelised onions and leek.
I am an avid bushwalker and I have spent much of the last 2 months walking through the Border Ranges NP, Lamington NP, A few state forests, and more than a few cattle properties. I have been discovering some incredibly beautiful examples of bracket fungi, pine fungi, dung fungi and more. I have learnt to idenify some fungi that grow from cow dung (a very enlightening experience indeed), the rest I just take the time to marvel at their beauty and leave them alone.
With so much rain here at the moment (and more leeches than rain), I am making the assumption based on what I've read so far, that this is great fungi-producing weather.
I would like to know what species of (psycho-active) shrooms are in season now (Autumn) for the Northern NSW and Gold Coast hinterland regions, so that I can look for them, photograph them, and then offer the pictures, and possibly spore prints, up for identification.
I will not remove anything from a National Park (except for leeches and litter).
Also, could somebody suggest a good Australian Mycology book to help me with my field trips.
Thank you in advance, and thank you for the learnings I've gained from this site so far.
