plant identification help!!
Zaka replied to shamanic plants's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
Irie, That's basically it. What happen many years ago when they went around collecting specimens, some would id them as Psychotria, then someone else would find a plant in a different area and would call it Palicourea. This lead to much confusion which they are still sorting out..... Respect, Z -
plant identification help!!
Zaka replied to shamanic plants's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
Irie, Looking like palicourea lasiantha. Most palicourea are synonymous with Psychotria(?). Respect, Z -
Irie EG, Nice to see they are viable! HHMMMM? I wonder?? I did send a bunch off to FLA based Ebot supplier??? Anyway, I'll up-date if & when mine sprout! Respect, Z BTW after some consultation with EG we've sussed that they are probably Spathodea campanulata??
-
Irie EG, I have no idea??? But these seeds are one year old, I've put them to germinate, so we'll see??? Respect Z
-
Irie, Ya lucky! Found a few of the center bone from the inside of the pods, with a few seeds hanging on there! I think I had id this tree as Tabebuia Serratifolia. Might as well plant them! Respect, Z
-
Irie EG, Did I send you them???? Anyway they are looking like some seeds I collected last year from tabebuia caraiba in Tortola. Maybe?? Respect, Z

Irie, I usually inflate the bag with a good deep breath. I guess you'll get all the air exchange you want when you get curious & open the bag to check them out! LIGHT! Yes! Sometimes they go in the grow room with 24/7 flo lights, otherwise kitchen counter with in direct light from window. As I said "It's always summer here"! So can't speak to low temp issues! Respect Z
-
Irie, It's always summer here I don't think air exchange is really an issue. I've rooted leaves, wrapped in damp kitchen towel & zip-locked with out opening for 2-3mths. I usually root in straight vermiculite dampened once then not opened again for 3-4mths. They are pretty resilient leaves. Respect Z

Irie SP, Thanks for posting that last side by side comparison photo! It definitely shows they are different. Interesting. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference in the foliage, so the seeds would seem to be the only way. Respect, Z

Irie, Psychotria leaves, 5wks to Europe no problems. Wrapped in damp kitchen towel! D.C., You'd be lucky!? Ta even find it??? BTW STOP SHOUTING!!!! Be a little more low key and lower case! Respect, Z

Irie Mauve, One difference I've observed between verrucosa & hostilis is; Verrucosa leaves fold up at night. Hostilis leaves fold down. Hope this helps. Respect Z

Irie, Torsten, would you have any photo of each of your separate species? I've been banging my head against the wall on this one for a while now Trying to catalog the various psychotria's + flowers,(on another forum). My opinion is constantly changing??? My most recent observations lead me to believe that this may not be alba, as the leaves I have seen are broader in the mid section & have a distinctive taper at the leaf base. Hutch, It maybe good news for you? BTW all my psychotria's have wavy leaves. Respect Z

Irie, Here's some info I have on local use; Respect Z

Irie, I had some good shots somewhere but here's a shot of the one on the fence. I had about 3 or 4 but must have given some away or something?? Respect Z

Irie, I've got a few Caupuri strain from Brazil, that display this characteristic! Respect, Z

Irie, I use an indoor grow room set up with flo lights on 24/7. I do close the bag to keep a constant humidity. Spray only if it dries but otherwise just leave em alone. Check no more than once a day. When they are a more reasonable size you start to leave the bag open but that's like after a couple of months at least! Respect Z
-
Irie, Make sure you have fresh seeds! I got 60 seedlings from a 50 seed pack last year. Still have 40 odd after give-aways & die offs. Method I used was; Sprinkle seeds on med course verm & Ziplock. Flo lights! Found that with the med course grains, many of the seeds would germinate on to one grain making transferring so much easier! Transfer to small seed tray in individual cells with potting soil & bag it again. Wait a couple more months before gradually exposing it to hardening off. I find my plants 10mths old like to dry out between waterings. It's easy to tell as they leaves will droop noticeably. Respect Z

Irie Cube, IMHO the first plant you found looks more like an Erythroxylum. The second less so! Though I only have knowledge of four varieties of Erythroxylum...... Just my MHO! Respect Z

Irie, Maybe Ajos Sacha (Mansoa alliacea); Literally translated as "Fake Garlic", Ajos Sacha is a vine-like tree whose leaves, when crushed, smell like garlic, with a hint of onion. Ajos Sacha has many spiritual uses, and is a favorite with hunters. Ritual purification of the fisherman's body, tools, and canoes with Ajos Sacha to assure a good catch, are common practice. The plant is also used in a "Baño de florecimiento", meaning "Flourishing bath" to attract good luck, wealth and prosperity into one's life. Good for luck!! PM me if ya can! Respect Z

Irie Santiago, Absolutely amazing & to see how a really good artist can bring an audience to tears. Respect Z

Please help identify this plant
Zaka replied to Grimm's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
Irie, The leaves do look like bindi....but the flowers wrong(?)... I remember doing a cross bindi seeds project, 10yrs ago...would be interesting project to resurrect, if anyone had seeds.... Respect Z -
Irie, I've only ever had one seed that I scraped through the outer shell with a dremmel, then soaked for 24-36hr. Got it to sprout but lost it due to rot cos it was well wet at the time. 90 seeds busted already? Better get something from the last 10! Good luck, Respect, Z

Irie, Just wondering????? If it was not an illegal plant, then how much would you's all smoke???? Respect Z
