    Home water-filtration systems

I used to buy all my own drinking water from the supermarket, but it sort of got abit expensive after a while and was alwasy a hassle lugging the containers home. So I just started drinking adelaides tap water which tastes like its been drained from the local swimming pool I'm pretty used to it now but when i'm in heightened states it tastes like its poisonous or something and my body just seems to tell me its not good for me. I think i'll have to investigate some of the suggestions you guys made.

    G20 Protests

The ones in the white jumpsuits where hardcore left wing activists from around australia and overseas who wanted media coverage whilst the ones doing the most damage where probably just teens wanted cheap thrills. I agree with their aims but don't necessarily agree with their actions. Attacking police horses is pretty damn low in my opinion. But the protesting space was not sufficiently close enough to the event, it was pretty obvious the victorian police force where more interested in keeping protestors away from the summit than providing a balance between freedom of speech and safety of the people attending the summit.

    Buying a van

My mate bought this mitsibishi hi ace, affectionatley known as sherona off a plumber earlier this year for a couple of grand. Its gone most of the way around the country without any problems. It was white but we gave it a kick ass paint job one sunday afternoon when we where bored.
  12. Intersting thread. In my opinion: - Science describes what we can explain through direct observation, religion describes what we cannot. Religion has been used by cultures to explain what they are unable to understand. For example a less technologically advanced society used religion to describe the creation of the things around them they observed, ie a giant animal spirit may have died and where its body fell created a mountain range. In our western society we have discovered through scientific observation that rock outcrops can be pushed up through the earths surface by tectonic activity creating mountain ranges. I don't think anyone has the right to tell others what they want or need as far as religion goes. Everyone has there own reasons for following a religion or for not following a religion. Its such a subjective thing. Some people need a structured and authoritative set or rules and morality to stop them from doing bad things while others search for rules and morality that applies best for them. Other people find solace and a sense of identity in the culture and traditions that a religion that they where born into provides. I myself try to take what applies to me from different religions, belief systems and worldviews and not expect any of these or my own beliefs to be perfect or divine truths.

    Don't wanna dream...

I can totally empathise with you apoth. For ages I was looking for that special girl, the one who would make me happy. But when I thought I found that girl the relationship with her made me even more miserable than before. That was pretty much the last straw for me as far as trying to find a relationship, so I decided just to live my life for myself, be happy, try to respect the people around me and just basically have fun. Met a quite a few girls along the way who I had brief relationships with, none of which went very far but didn't let this phase me. Then one day I ended up meeting someone totally special who i've been with since the start of the year. I pretty much live off centrelink plus an extra hundred dollars or so I get from working part time each week and i'm able to live very comfortably with my gf and some friends in a share house. May sound strange but the less I worry about money the more it seems to work itself out. And we are definitley not hippies at all as well

    Mars Volta Australia Tour 2006

The Mars Volta revived the concept album in 2005 with their cerebral opus Frances the Mute. The epic LP centered on the thoughts of a man seeking out his adopted parents. Those musings were contained within a diary discovered by former "To me, religion is the reason there's so much conflict in the world. Amputechture is my way of describing enlightenment." — The Mars Volta's Cedric Bixler-Zavala Photos, audio and video from this story The Mars Volta "The Widow [Edit]" The Widow (Universal/Strummer/Gold Standard) Volta bandmate Jeremy Ward while he was employed as a repo man. Before Ward's 2003 death from an apparent overdose, he took it upon himself to finish the unknown writer's work. The band's frontman, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, later used the writings as a blueprint of sorts for Frances (see "Mars Volta's Conceptual Frances The Mute Speaks Volumes"). For the Volta's forthcoming conceptual offering, Amputechture, which hits stores September 12, Bixler-Zavala didn't rely on just one source of inspiration for his lyrics — there was plenty on his mind this time around. "It's all loose, really," he explained. "I love the way that [Rod Serling's 1970s series] 'Night Gallery' had that common thread that it was a gallery, and every painting told a different story. I guess I'd like that to be true of this album, too. The subject matter's all different, but [the songs] do all come together in a strange way. Every song would be a different episode that kind of relates in the way that [Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 film] 'Magnolia' has all these different characters [who] all come back together in the end. "There's the subject of the immigrant marches that were happening here," Bixler-Zavala continued. "And there were things I saw on the news, like the story about a woman who was killed by this priest because supposedly she was possessed." That woman was a 23-year-old Romanian nun named Maricica Irina Cornici, who, according to news reports, believed she heard the devil talking to her. A monk bound Cornici to a cross, gagged her with a towel and left her in a dank room for three days without food. She died of suffocation and dehydration more than a year ago. "That was sort of an inspiration to write about the Western phenomenon of incarcerating somebody if you think they're crazy, whereas in some parts of the world, like in South America, people like this woman would be considered a shaman," the singer said. But that's not where it ends. "This album's a commentary about the fear of God instead of the love of God, which goes hand-in-hand with Catholicism," he said. "To me, religion is the reason there is so much conflict in this world, and I think it's just so unnecessary to believe in this blue-eyed, white-bearded, white-haired God. Amputechture is my personal way of describing enlightenment, or just the celebration of this person who is a shaman and not a crazy person. It's about the pineal gland and how it has certain elements that mimic a DMT experience, and how we can come up with cures for cancer and AIDS if we're more in tune with what's going on in the rainforest." Bixler-Zavala says the Volta started recording Amputechture last year while on tour with System of a Down (see "System Of A Down/ Mars Volta Tour Dates Announced"). Guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez produced the LP, which features eight ethereal tracks. "We're excited about this album, because I think a lot of people expected us to rest on Frances and keep promoting that," Bixler-Zavala said. "It's great to just keep going and throw new stuff out there. We have the kind of fanbase that demands that. But we're constantly working, or else we get bored." Rodriguez-Lopez, who is working on music for Guillermo Arriaga's forthcoming film "The Night Buffalo" as well as his own, five-years-in-the-making movie, had a virtual library of ideas he brought to the table for Amputechture, which features the Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante playing the majority of the album's guitar parts. "We took an approach on this album of not letting everyone know what's going on with the music," Bixler-Zavala said. "Everyone went in and recorded their part right then and there. Frusciante learned his part five minutes before we'd go in to record it, and the entire album was recorded in big chunks. It's the closest thing to improvisation we can do." This fall, the Mars Volta will open for the Chili Peppers on the band's North American tour, set to kick off August 11 in Portland, Oregon, and conclude November 5 in St. Paul, Minnesota (see "Red Hot Chili Peppers Reveal Stadium Arcadium Tour Dates"). Afterward, Bixler-Zavala said the Volta will stage their own U.S. headlining tour, which should commence before year's end, with dates running well into 2007. — Chris Harris

What's with the trance scene these days?

I find the psy trance forums oztrance and australiens totally pathetic, there just a breeding ground for negativity, back stabbing and jelousy. Even with the local adelaide trance forum it only took one idiot to come on and start stirring things up for the whole mood and vibe of the forum to change. I've only been going to psy parties since late 2004 so i'm still a newbie but feel very lucky i've been introduced to the trance phenomena in adelaide. I love it how here in adelaide the organisers really put effort into getting local people to put energy into creating music and art for the parties.

    Tool!

The whole scalping issue shows that some promoters really don't care anything about the fans and as long as the tickets are selling then there happy. Earthcore seems to have a pretty good anti-scalping system this year, have to show photo id at the gate to prove I bought the tickets and other people I bought tickets for have to come through gate at the same time. Would be an absolute pain tho if I legitimatley had to sell the tickets.
