A list of american Indian herbs .

Know what you mean. As one plant is illegalized some must other plants arise from obscurity like a tidal force confounding the illegalists. I know nothing of any of these plants except calamus. Be nice if a certain feature attracted ones attention to a plant such as its flower. The Berlandiera lyrata has a flower that smells of chocolate. Be nice if smoking the flower and the root was good for a chocolate smelling experience, but who knows. Seeds of such and plants are easy to come by. Plants in your local area that are very closely related to a plant on any list that interests you deserves a look too as the plant chemistry would be similar. Might find a more potent local brother plant without the hassle of raising a plant that has it origins halfway across the world from seed. Your local nursery has many a ethnogenic plant, some foreign, if one only knew what they were. The secret of a plant is where the desirable alkaloids are located which usually in one of the following: the leaves, the inner live bark [as with some trees and is a very unexplored area because of the hassle involved] or the roots.

  19. That isn't surprising since they don't offer anything but seeds. Sure you haven't got the wrong company. If you have then give some details as no on likes to spend lots of cash for nothing. They are expensive but reputable the last time I ordered which was 5 years ago., the last resource for exotic plants. Unfortunately not exotic enough species seeds for some of us. The 'Wants list" is a limited seed offering which you can subscibe your wants and you will be notified in any are available. Don't expect anything cheap.

  21. I baffled as to why the blanco type tequila, like Sauza Blanco has a peppery taste. Does the formula for this type of tequila include some pepper corns or a chile pepper before or after distillation I womder? Maybe they just use the agave as a starch source. I can make pepper flavored vodka thats is identical in the peppery taste although harsher, not aged enough I think but naturally not tequilla. Tequilla is very expensive because of a blue agave shortage in old Mexico. The gold type Tequillas just have carmel added to it which ruins the taste for me. I like the thinking of raising agave and doing it yourself but that might only work for pulque if added ingredients are necessary. If added flavoring ingredients are used maybe just regular vodka might be used as a base. All speculation on my part but waiting ten years for agave growing would be taxing for me.

    Salvia haematodes effects?

I found this. Abstract: The effect of an ethanolic extract of Salvia haematodes roots was studied on the sexual behaviour of male rats. in the initial experiments, male sexual responses were assessed by recording penile erection, licking and grooming of genitals and copulatory movement in absence of females. In the second set, copulatory behaviour was observed by caging males with a receptive female brought into estrus with s.c. injection of estradiol benzoate and progesterone. The frequencies of mounting and intromission and latency of the ejaculation were recorded. The results show that the extract (500 mg/kg, orally) produced a significant increase in episodes of penile erection. The drug was found to enhance the orientation of males towards the female by increased anogenital investigatory behaviour and enhanced licking and grooming of the genitals. The extract also increased the ejaculation latency. These findings support the folk use of this plant as aphrodisiac and for the treatment of premature ejaculation. a timely link on whats called a Climax Generator- a group of neurons in the spine. http://www.nature.com/nsu/020826/020826-8.html [This message has been edited by devance (edited 31 August 2002).]

    Erythroxylum coca

Heres my research report: Description.—Two South American cocas are found in commerce. One known as Huanuco or Cuzco Coca, is derived from places of those names in Peru, the cities being located south of the central part of the state; and Truxillo or Trujillo Coca, coming from the northern portion of Peru. The latter kind has pale-green leaves, which are thin and easily broken, not so large but more pointed than those of Huanuco coca, which are coriaceous, thicker, and have a much deeper green color. The Truxillo leaf is said to be identical with that furnished by the Java shrub. Bolivian coca is regarded as finer than that grown in Peru. It is identical in appearance with the Huanuco variety. Ceylon leaves which are are the leaves of E. Coca; they resemble Bolivian leaves, but are usually larger, and are said to contain rather less alkaloid. Coca leaves from Java are derived from E. Coca, var. spruceanum, Burck.; yield about 0.7 per cent. of total alkaloid, part of which is benzoyl-pseudo-tropine or tropacocaine (has 50% activity of cocaine). Young (Java) leaves, carefully dried have been found to contain as much as 2 per cent. of alkaloid. As the cocaine is easily hydrolysed it is desirable that the leaves should be free from mildew and kept in a dry place. Constituents.—Coca leaves contain the alkaloids cocaine (methyl-benzoyl-ecgonine), cinnamyl- cocaine (methyl-cinnamyl-ecgonine), and truxilline (isatropyl-cocaine or cocamine). The total amount yielded by the commercial leaves varies from about 0.1 to 1.0 per cent. As a rule Truxillo leaves contain rather more alkaloid than Bolivian, but only about one-half of it is cocaine, whereas from three-fourths to five-sixths of the total alkaloid in Bolivian leaves consists of cocaine. The latter are to be preferred for medicinal use. Coca leaves also contain cocatannic acid. Java coca contains tropacocaine and four yellow crystalline glucosides, in addition to the other constituents. I got part of this info from King's American Dispensatory. by Harvey Wickes Felter, M.D., and John Uri Lloyd, Phr. M., Ph. D., 1898. when there was more legal commercial trade and before Peru/Java Truxillo leaf became E. Novo, at least thats my guess. And I believe that Truxillo leafs contains generally 50% cocaine + tropocaine+alkaloids in greater amounts than E. coca which has generally 75% cocaine + alkaloids. This is my best interpretation and doesn't include age of leaves, age of plants, locality, microlocality genetic variations, cross hybridization or that 102 years have past. Or I might have it backwards. As a interesting note Mark Twain as a young man considered moving to South America and becoming a Coca importer to the U.S., makes you wonder if he continued his interests in Coca. This was mentioned in a TV biography. Ceylon-E coca-less alkaloids than normal, larger leaves Java-E. novo-.7%alkaloid-2%alkaloids for young leaves-50%cocaine-also tropocaine Northern Peru-Truxillo-E. novo-more total alkaloids than E.coca Southern Peru-Huanuco-E. coca Bolivia-E. coca-.1-1%alkaloids-75-83%cocaine A Link to actual growing instructions: http://users.lycaeum.org/~mulga/coca.html Other Links: http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/eclectic/ki...ythroxylon.html [This message has been edited by devance (edited 28 August 2002).]

    Sinicuiche - Heimea salicifolia

I've tried the tea using the tradional methods of one day sun exposure in a suntea type of jar and found it does have a nice relaxing effect although I didn't get anything else out of it. It is interesting that blending or crushing the fresh leaves make for a very viscous solution as if a bit of gelatin was added. Also the plant isn't a annual and very easy to grow even in hot climates and the seed pod, of which there are many, contains thousands of very tiny seeds of a blond color so its easy to think the pod hasn't properly developed the seeds due to the color, most plant seeds are black. This isn't a invasive plant as it very much at home in a semidesert region and basic survival strategy is producing thousands and thousand of seeds. Thumbs up as a sleeping inducer.
