i thought that whole peanut and dried banana skins thing was a myth that became well known though the anarchists cookbook. could the mellow high have been oxygen deprevation? carbon monoxide has a much higher affinity to hemoglobin than oxygen and acts as a competitive inhibitor. surely smoking any organic matter would result in some type of buzz

i prefer "kid A" to "hail to the thief" but that is probably setimentality as me and that cd have had some good times. the soundtrack to the Ken Burns movie "Jazz" (its played in segments sunday night on ABC) is my current cd of choice. jazz is absolutely crazy sometimes

i tend to download all the disposable music that i wont listen to too many times and purchase the cds that deserve it. my last two purchases were augie march - strange bird the mars volta - de-loused in the comatarium i recommend both of them very highly.

i was reading some comics i drew as a kid and found one was particularily interesting. it involved this jungle goat that rammed a tree with its horns to release the sap. it then drank the sap and hallucinated with all these eyes running around it etc. the goat then vomitted, was fine, and walked away. i had no idea about plants producing hallucinogenic compounds at this age (approx 11 or 12 yo?) yet this comic kinda reflects DMT with perhaps a focus on ayahuasca as it is all set in the jungle. i cant remember why i drew that comic but im sure i just thought it was a good story at the time. the product of a wild imagination. what i am getting to is have you ever felt that the plants found YOU rather than you finding the plants?

i thought this concept of low potency was due to faster growing peyote simply having more water in it. therefore the amount of mescaline to WET total mass is lower than that of peyote doing it tough in the desert. if you removed water from both wild growing peyote and the grafted peyote, measured the mescaline levels to dry mass, the mesc. proportions should be very similar. ^something i remember reading on some other board. dont know if its true or not. interesting theory ed but you have to look at enzyme numbers. a faster growing peyote will have more cells, therefore more enzymes involved in mescaline production. the production process takes the same time in wild as it does in the grafted plant. grafted plants just get bigger quicker and the bigger the peyote the more enzymes inside. i think the big thing to look at in peyote would be what stimulates mescaline production levels. its to keep away pests isnt it? what if you nipped off a tiny bit of the outer flesh with a knife. whould chemical signals be released saying "the walls have been breached, someones trying to eat me. release more chemicals to counter attack" ? yeah the pine toxins were only an afterthought. would still be interesting to see what these toxins do and dont kill. obviously they dont harm some mushrooms but whether or not they kill bateria would be an interesting experiment. a handy ally if they do. (i have a feeling they dont but it shouldnt be too hard to test) back to amanita then it must be something to do with mycorrhizal associations. that basically means that the fungi has a symbiotic relationship with the plant. the plant benefits as its root network is expanded while the fungi gains a source of carbon from the plant. i think 90% of plants have a mycorrhizal relationships. (there are also two different types of mycorrhizal associations, in one the hyphae penetrate the roots cells in the other they dont) perhaps shredded plant matter in the medium might work?
