  1. Ahhh! Yeah, bit of a misunderstanding on my part there gilligan. That's what I figured. Doesn't seem like you or planthelper have any real difficulties regarding the use of un rooted stocks. Good to know. Was mainly concerned with loss of vigour in the growth as the stock may expend all it's energy trying produce new roots. Appears that is not a major factor though.

ph, yeah I know what you mean mate regarding the vascular bundle. Have you considered using glue to graft multiple scions to a large pedro's vascular bundle? I use glue quite a bit in my grating adventures. Sometimes it gives just that little bit extra hold when scions are getting knocked off or not fusing as well as they might.

This topic has really piqued my interest, thanks for the info.

  2. Do you find it has impeded growth gilligan? Or do you find it is the same/similar as grafting onto a pre rooted stock?

I should have mentioned that the stocks I am experimenting are Trichos, but that's the what you are using anyway.

  3. A question for you PH. Did you graft the little loph onto the unrooted Echinopsis while it had roots and take a cutting? Or did you graft it to an un rooted stock?

I have recently been experimenting with grafting to un rooted stocks, which seems to work quite well, just keen to get your insight on this. Does it effect growth much if un rooted, for example?

    Thanks.

  4. @niggles. Regarding grafting Ariocarpus seedlings. You are better off trying to graft the lower half, roots and all onto another Pereskiopsis stock (or the same one if you are skilled at the technique), this usually will pup eventually and grow into a nice plant. It is unlikely that a cut seedling will survive and pup as it will be far too small and it's highly unlikely that you will be able to leave an intact areole that can produce a pup. You need intact areoles for pups to grow from. This applies to all cacti. Hope that helps.

    @PH. Nice grafts mate.

  5. They are looking good so far.

To be honest, I have no idea as to the alkaloid content for this particular plant/plant community. I wont be testing it. I will leave that to the chemists, I think. Yes, I believe that is correct in regards to alkaloid profile and where the plant comes from.

Regarding technique, there isn't much to it, or to see really. I took some small semi hardwood cuttings (about 6) and put them into my aquamiser. I used a propagating mix of coir, perlite and course washed river sand. I can get a pic, but as I mentioned, not much to see. I take of the lids and give a light mist once or twice a day, but it gets pretty humid in there anyway. Though, next time I think I will grab some soft tip cuttings, semi hardwood and maybe some hardwood cuttings too. See which works best etc. When I do this I will get plenty of pics as there will be much more to see and I can write up success/failure as per strike rate by type of cutting etc.

  6. Looks pretty much like a caespitose to me. Wouldn't personally pay $200 for such a small plant I don't think. Let alone $299, which is what they are asking, starting bid. The other one is much bigger, but still very expensive. Not to mention there is a suss looking discolouration on the main head.

  7. EG hit the nail on the head exactly with that one I think. Might as well keep this open for now on the off chance that someone is looking for a Groovebox. In a week or so if nothing happens I will try as others have suggested i;e street press, classified and maybe ebay. See how we go.

Psylo, you better make some tripped out sounds with your space echo and post up an mp3 demo in the creativity thread so we can hear what you are doing with it

    EDIT: Missing word...

  8. I did have it on ebay a while ago and it ended up costing me heaps as no one bought it. It even had 30 watchers at one point. Not sure what was going on there. Anyway, that's probably what I will end up doing, just thought it might be cheaper and easier to try and sell it here.

EDIT: As a guide, postage is approx $20-25.

  9. Thanks -=IndigoSunrise=-

That was the sort of response I was after. It's a wonder I couldn't find your post in my search. Very useful info indeed. Will try and get my hands on some A. alpina seedsand grow them asstocks. Meanwhile I will make some attempts with easier and less rare Acacias and also get in some budding and grafting practice on other vascular plants to get my hand up to speed. 30 seconds is certainly a very narrow window for a delicate task, but with practice one can graft very quickly.

Will keep people updated if people are interested. I feel this could be a more viable way to cultivate A. phlebophylla, or in the very least increase seed stock of cultivated plants to prevent wild harvesting and the disappointment in failed cultivation. If the seed was freely available, a technique could be easily established for successful cultivation, as trial and error wouldn't be so much of an issue.

    Thanks again.

  10. I already asked the admin before I posted this thread. The admin OK'd it.

I agree though, can someone delete this thread please though. I have a feeling selling it after those comments is going to be like pushing shit up hill. All I need right now.

PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD. I WILL TRY ANOTHER STRATEGY

    Thanks..
