    Entheobotanical bonsai

I just think training a bonsai can be complicated enough without adding other more complicated and technical techniques into the fray, I like things simple. Life should be simple and the things in it IMO. This is not to say that you should't do it or that it is not a good idea, I just think it would be a pain in the arse. That is just my opinion and am sure you will do what you decide you want to do in the end anyway.

Sounds like a real pain in the arse to me. When you remove the leaves, yes sure they grow back smaller for a while, but then the process has to be repeated all over again during the growing season. You can't actually change the plant completly by cutting it's leaves, bonsai need very regular care and maintenance, that's why they look the way they do.

Here is a little bit of eye candy considering we are discussing bonsai, not ethnobotanical in any way but you get that This is one of my Juniperus prostrata 'nana' s [prostrate Juniper] I've been training for a few years now.

    Have I got nematoads?

Sounds also like some sort of slater to me. On nematodes, yes they are more like a worm-like entity, but more slimy. For the little bug things you could try crushing some fresh garlic and put them in an atomiser with some water, pests seem to hate the stuff. Gets a bit rank after a while, but have heard that when it gets rank it works even better. Spray it around the ground near your pots and into the ledge. I put some in hothouse yesterday as I had these annoying little fly-like things [not sure what they are] hanging around my TBM, got rid of them and made my hothouse smell like an Italian restuarant, which I thought was great Give it a go Andy, see how it goes. Let me know if it works.
  8. I don't actually mind this new style, but they were in full psy-trance mode when I saw them. Musicians need to evolve and innovate as a lack of these inevitably leads to stagnation.

Some Erythrina sp. would probably also make a decent bonsai, I agree troutman.

This sounds like a good idea, as I am a bonsai enthusiast myself. I think a few points should be raised though. 1 being that some Acacia sp. are quite suitable for bonsai, lots of them are fairly short lived and this diverts from traditionalist bonsai culture in that the trees selected for bonsai cultivation are usually very large and long living trees in nature. Most Acacia sp. don't develop interesting bark structure, for example they usually don't develop corky or gnarled bark with age which is desirable in bonsai. Although Acacia melanoxylon Blackwood [which does spring to mind] is a more long lived species which can develop interesting bark and does purportedly contain DMT, would probably be a good choice. 2 I would'nt have thought Psychotria viridis to be a great species for bonsai as it is know to be a bit touchy. 3 plants with bipinnate foliage are traditionally not used for bonsai as they are hard to create an image of age with, fern like leaves etc. which would include Mimosa and Anadenanthera. 4 bonsai generally don't like being kept indoors. That said, there would definately be some good plants to use, Kratom looks like it has potential. I think some Doryphora sp. would also be worth trying. If I can find any info or think of any other potentials will post them back here. Thats a wicked caudiciform you have there troutman that could definately be turned into a decent bonsai with time.

Hi Isdreamz, Have a search for Sida sp. on here: Shaman Australis Botanicals Recommended 10-20 grams of root material brewed into a tea. I suggest having a read of the information related to Sida sp. for the parts that yield alkaloids. Also the general info is good too.

The effect seems to last for quite a while in my case , though i'd have to say there was no mind numbing qualities, hav'nt bioassayed the other parts yet [as I said I would] but will, though am only using a little at a time [one small pipe bowl], am mainly trying it for the nasal congestion at this point, works wonders for that, though the added stimulus isn't too bad I must admit I did feel I was getting a bit of a headache later in the evening, though I am prone to getting headaches fairly regularly anyway so not sure if it was the Sida but am pretty sure it was.
  15. Looks like Cereus peruvianus to me, though pic is a little dark, and closer shot would have been great. Not much of ethnobotanical interest there i'm afraid.
  16. I saw them inside @ a large [now defunct] club in Sydney called GAS, I don't think it matters whether you see these guys indoors or out, they rock it all the same.

Probably best to just leave it at that. I'm thinking.

Anyone know what these could be?

I was thinking the same thing, but want to find out some more information about it, because I found loads of subs a few years back, but they looked a little bit different in maturity and stained a distinctive blue upon bruising.
  19. Most likely not. Will add though that I saw them play live in Sydney back in 2003 and they absolutely rocked. I was even lucky enough to meet one of the guys for a very brief conversation. Though am not entirely sure he understood what I was on about [not sure I would've either on reflection, that was a messy night], but that wasn't relevant as he could tell that I enjoyed they're live set immensely, and that was what I was on about.

Where can i get a portable walkin greenhouse?

That may be so, but is it really necessary to discuss women's sanitary items in an ethnobotanical forum?

    Sydney Meet

So what's the progress with this meet? Is it definately happening on the 10th of March? If so what is the meet up time and which part of Hyde Park is the spot, as there is two sections of the park with a road seperating them? I'm just assuming it's the fountain side, but would to get a bit more info as this in like 3 days time.
