    Bridgesii ID please

Looks like the standard Trichocereus bridgesii Kinda what I was thinking - nothing out of the norm? Not that I can immediately see. Got one in my collection now But that "standard" is pretty damn good Hmm, would that be referring to the alk. levels?? Hope so! Certainly would be

    That is definitely Acacia longifolia.

This is strange one. I not 100% convinced that it is A. maidenii the phyllodes seem to be too wide. Flower looks similiar but hard to tell as they are either opening or deteriorating in the pics. It may very well be an out of area species. Is it a planted specimen? In the bush or is it remnant bush? Most Acacia spp. are short lived, so may not be remnant. Reminds me alot of A. melanoxylon but the flowers are all wrong. Pretty sure it's not A. maidenii. This one is a tricky one. I would leave it alone unlesss you are positive in the ID or you can get a positive ID which can be difficult from pictures alone.

    Are DISCOCACTI active?

What made you think Discocactus spp. were active anyway Gardener?
  5. 5c really looks Rebutia graciliflora. 5a am pretty sure is an Echinipsos [T. spachianus like apoth said probably, wait til it's grown a bit more I reckon] Unknown euphorbia (apart from only one spine, what's the diff between this and a cactus?) Not sure on the species but main difference would be the caustic latex they have for sap, and mostly originating in Africa and not the Americas, not sure botanically/morphologically, could find out if you're really keen. Also the flowers differ in that they are highly reduced and unisexal, borne with a cup-shaped inflorescence called a cyathium. The cyathia can be monoecious or dioecious. The cristate one looks to be either a Euphorbia lactea variegata cristata? or a cristate Opuntia sp. best way to check is to nick it and see if it has white milky sap or just wounds like an ordinary cactus.

Yeah no worries mate, I didn't see that at first. They can be a tricky genus to ID sometimes I think. P.S: cheers for the seeds mate, will pm you soon about that, have not had any come up yet.
  8. Wish i could say the same! No one gives me any cacti.
  9. Looks like a Rebutia sp. don't know which sp. though. You did well dqd my friend.

    A few questions.

I'm not an expert in this area, as I have not done any processing etc. with the Acacia spp. I would suggest putting in a large sized glad baggy and freezing it though. I just know about the plants as I am a bit of a native buff. Sydney region anyway. Anyone know the best way to store the research material for Acacia?

I agree that it does look a lot like A. longifolia but it reminds me alot of another species, can you get some pics of the flowers posted. That would be very helpful. Hellonasty your second pic looks alot more like Acacia longifolia var. sophorae

    Cactus Tea Pictorial !!!

You're a cheeky one aernt you MORG. I would have to say that I do agree with some anthropocentric concepts, we as humans do have a lot to answer for, it cannot be denied. Smart arse LOL

I mainly did it because I was bored and wagging from school with this girl who had a horse and we would hang around in the stable area LOL The Sida is decidedly better than that hay I smoked though Just watch out mate, this one is a nasty weed [possibly noxious, will find out for you]. Don't want it to spread. I was a bush regenerator. Can you tell? (btw, forgive the shitty attention to english writing conventions, tonic, i don't mean to stress you with my linguistic non-chalance) hahaha, nah your cool, it's mainly glaringly obvious not so cunning linguists that get up my goat. You should know that by now.

    Cactus Tea Pictorial !!!

If you are implying that I am in some way affliated with a christian set of religious beliefs MORG I will have to state now emphatically that I am not. I have my own beliefs from my own experiences and DO NOT believe in a so called God. The plants are the healers and the teachers and I respect them as such. Abusing the gift/sacrament that they provide is against my beliefs, they should be used only as a vehicle of knowledge and understanding. Not in a recreational sense. However these are just my beliefs and opinions and would not like to push these beliefs and opinions on anyone who do not wish to live by them. Thanks.
  17. How goes it Az mate? That one is Cereus peruvianus. Nope the flower buds arent really necessary with this one. A pretty straight forward ID with this one every time.

Any consumption of alkaloids isn't going to be good for the liver, I think with moderation there should be no problems for a gnome. Though this was kind of the point of my other post.

    Hello! and some help please...

That is a very nice plant you have there! is it caespitosa variety? Thanks. She is a very loved plant. No am pretty sure she is just plain old Lophphora williamsii, although I will be seeing the fellows I bought her off on the weekend and ask whether it is or not [if they can remember], had her for a bout 4 years now. How long does it take for the exposed pachanoi to go brown and properly callous over like that? I would'nt have said it was brown. More of an off white if you ask me. From a few weeks to a month IME to callous. Also I have planted the tip of the cactus I grafted onto back into some dry soil, the wound has gone nice and dry. It is usually suggested that you turn the cutting upside down let it callous and then wait for the root primordia or roots to form before planting out. Though you also don't want to stress it out by grafting then de-grafting then planting then removing for further drying etc. They are sensitive plants IME. I would plant the one you have now, make sure the potting media stays dry until you get some roots. If she dies, try and buy a new one, or wait for your seeds [might be waiting a while] to grow and graft them at a young age onto a Pereskiopsis sp. for accelerated growth rate. Any idea how long until it roots itself? Can take months, depends on climate really. When is it best to start watering it? When the roots have formed, but you should NEVER over water as they are very sensitive to this. Water in growing season when they dry right out and rarely if ever in the dormant period. You are able to change your watering schedule a little when you have a scion that is grafted to a stock like T. pachanoi as the latter prefer a little more water than the Lophophora sp. though I would'nt go over the top with this, I would only increase the watering in the growing season slightly and if you see any detrimental changes, immediately go back to your original watering schedule.

    Cactus Tea Pictorial !!!

You have to look at the bigger picture. If humans were meant to imbibe copious amounts of cactus juice the cacti would be much faster in their growing habits and contain alot more alkaloids. It is good for gnomes to have the tea ONLY when there is enough and the Earth allows for them to partake in the sacred event by providing. A gnome's liver is a fragile thing as is the mind. A foaf of mine thinks that the tea is too bitter to notice any spermatoza type taste [and would disagree with this theorum anyway].

    great birthday......thanks

I wished I could have come along to your party Gom, am sure it would have been a great party. Unfortunately I live far too far away to have attended. Would love to see your garden and meet the man that is Gomaos. Maybe next time if I can get some funds up and can find a way to haul arse all the way up there. Hope you guys had a riot [well not literally but as in the saying, you get my drift]. Edit: unsightly lower case at beginning of sentence. Man am I pedantic.

    Cacti photos, ID, planting question.

In pic#1 you have a few differen't cacti there, the red flowering one looks like a Cleistocactus sp. possibly a few different species of these in that pic, to me looks like also present is an Oreocereus or Cephalocereus "old man cactus" the one with the hair. Also that big Stenocereus in the background and a few others that I can not readily identify. In pic #2 the big guy with the sun behind looks like Stenocereus sp. possibly marginatus. In pic #3 & 4 I would have to agree that it appears to be a Trichocereus macrogonus but also seems to have some slight peruvinoid resemblance, so possibly just Trichocereus macrogonus or even a hybrid between this and T. peruvianus.

Yeah you could do it that way, not sure about the taste [tastes like hay or lucerne] and before you ask yes I have smoked hay a long time ago . I dry mine in a paper bag, it only takes a few days [weather permitting]. A water pipe should be fine, but a small pipe would be better IMO, but this might be just my preference because I don't really like water pipes etc. Give it a go ls and post back here what you think of it. Don't expect any major effects. I also found that I am smoking the stuff everyday now though, so beware of that, but that could be just my bent? Am prone to smoking alot anyway and was badly addicted to another type of weed for many years. Not so anymore so it would seem. Hopefully anyway. A very hard habit to kick. For me anyway. Glad I did though in many ways.
