  1. What size is the tip t st? Length & Width?
  2. Just got another ario and put in some Ario seeds this morning, come on Teotz'. You're lagging behind now. Think you are going to have to set up a proper grow room as I have suggested to you before. I can't see how you hope to have decent results if you don't. Oh well not my problem.

    T. Bridgesii var. Monstrose flesh

What a horrible dream Andy, but as you say very poignant, one would almost say prescient. The sooner this thread is vanished away the better I think. Long live TBM, such a cute little fella.
  5. I still haven't managed to get one yet, so get to the back of the line fellas

    Crossing Cacti

Hey yeah! Now that's a novel idea...
  8. What for? If I did that my fingers would get sore and also I would probably develop arthritis and then I couldn't come on here and type out snide remarks in your general direction? Did you consider that possibly your aproach leaves a little to be desired? Well quite alot actually... Maybe a less pushy approach might yield more positive results. Have you actually tried talking one on one to people within the ethnobotany community? Or better yet indigenous people from Mexico? Or maybe even starting a well constructed and well thought out poll? SPRING!!! That means you will be down a couple of months these mexican miniatures take a long time to grow you know, every second counts. As a matter of fact so have I. What did you pick up for the your collection Teotz? Would be keen to see pics, always keen to see cacti pics. I have recently picked up 3 new Ariocarpus spp. of varying ages, a small one, a quite old one and a very old one. Pics will end up in the Ariocarpus thread that I started when I get my camera happening.

    mamillaria matudae

I can trade some Pedro X Super Pedro seeds possibly, if interested? Might have a few other cacti seeds too. Will have to have a look.

    Scarified acacia seeds

You germinate Mimosa hostilis root bark??!!?? I agree with telemetric, though I find that the ones that have swollen from hot water treatment do germinate a lot faster, if they are viable in the first place that is. I have also noted that one or two seeds that didn't actually swell during treatment dis still germinate, albeit many months later.

    Not Fucking funny...

Fucking classic! Thanks for posting that link Bacc, funniest thing I have seen in a while.
  12. Ummmm yeah right!!!! Sooooo Teotz how are those 'false peyote' seedlings coming along? I would presume you have atleast 100 seedlings of Ariocarpus spp. and others growing along nicely by now? Just opening a fresh packet of Astrophytum asterias and Astrophytum capricorne between sentences. Ready to start germinating them tommorow.

    I.D - unknown cactus

Looks more like a Mammillaria bombycina to me, the soft radial spines that are light coloured and the darker brownish hooked central spine makes me think that is the species I mentioned. It could be a similiar species. Though fairly certain it's a Mammillaria bombycina. It will be easier to ID in a year or two. EDIT: On second inspection it doesn't appear to have hooked radials..hmmm must be a similiar species then?

Sacred Cacti Part A 3rd edition

I would also be interested in a colour hardcover edition. Let us know if it comes to fruition. Just got my copy of Part B today . Excellent publication.
  18. Ariocarpus living rocks of Mexico I found this site interesting and imformative, some great pics and some good links too. Like this one: KAKTUSY Special 2 - Ariocarpus Also do many people here grow these amazing cacti? What species do you grow and what are your favourite species? What is your take on the cultivation of them? Alot of different have alot of different ideas about growing them. EDIT: Another page on Ariocarpus spp. here, nice pics, it's in German though. Die Gattung Ariocarpus There should be a translated form of this site available by PDF shortly. And another that is also being translated Ariocarpus.net, which looks to have some hypocotyl grafting info and some good cultivation tips, photos etc. Stay tuned.

    Ariocarpus living rocks of Mexico

Thanks for the input jono. That's some excellent advice too. I was waiting for you to get involved in this thread as I know you are an ario grower and propagator. I have also heard from other sources that they require much more humidity than other cacti (and reading your posts about it), it seems kinda ironic that after they are growing on they require an increasingly dry atmosphere and potting media. On media, what sort do you use jono? And everyone else for that matter. I am still looking for my perfect mix, so far my mix contains a fair amount of course mineral content with a much smaller organic matter ratio. They are certainly are an addictive cacti once you start getting into growing them kada. Not sure what it is, for me I guess it's the amazing and sometimes bizzare appearance as they looks far removed from most other forms of cacti, also the rariety of them and the hunt to aquire them into the collection. Watching their slow growth is another added interest for me as you get to know the plant intimately over a long period of time. The prices can be a bit steep, but really worth every cent in some cases.

TBM, the penis plant clone trade

Would love a cutting, but can't see how you will get into Australia , seems like a mighty big risk on the part of the Australian receiver of said trade.

    Ariocarpus living rocks of Mexico

I might be inclined to take a few pics soon and post them here, I am about to get two more into the collection. It will have to wait till I get my camera happening again though. Would love to see some other members pics too.

    Ariocarpus living rocks of Mexico

The ones witht the smooth tubercles look like A. retusus var. retusus, or forms/varietas thereof. The ones with the slight fissures on the tubercles look like A. retusus var. furfuraceus also looks like a grafted A. fissuratus var. lloydii next to the main gaft in the last pic, theses are amongst my favourite Ariocarpus. Those are enormous Arios kada. Are they in your collection? Amazing specimens.

    Anyone here play xbox live?

Will have alook in JB when I head up there later in the week, cheers for letting me know. No haven't been able to afford a HD setup yet, mainly because I spend too much money on cacti, but you get that. Definitely be getting one though as I have seen how the games look on HD and it really is a whole other ball game graphics wise. Also I have noticed with some of my games that they are in widescreen (obviously made with HD in mind, especially with Dead Rising, but I thought that game was a bit of a let down in many respects anyway) and the dialogue/writing is almost unreadable. I have tried fixing this in the settings , but to no avail. It kinda sucks as I want to get the full experience. When I get the money will definitely get a decent setup, surround sound would be nice for certain games too.
