    New mini setup

I have constructed a small seed raising light set up recently and accidently purchased an incandecent tube light. I was pretty pissed until i found a site on growing under lights that said that the red in incandecent lights can be used to suppliment the blue yellow and green light produced by fluros. So I went and got a small 10w fluro and set them up at different heights. I carefuly monitor the temp as icandecents produce alot of infrared (heat) light which is supposed to be good in small amounts. Currently they run at a maximum of 30.5 degrees at the height of the seed containers. I started running them during the day to utilise the fluctuation in day night temps to stimulate germination then changed them to night setting so they don't run to hot. I guess i'll see how it all works out.

    blades for grafting

I have found them at both woolies and coles in the shaver section They come in a little white plastic case with a lable marked "10 Wilkinson sword" They cost around $11.50 where I am, so around $1.15 each. If you use them more then once make sure you clean it up good or you could comtaminate your graft. Good luck.

Grafting Comp- Feb 2007- No new entries

Hey Teo Great harvest. Can't what to see them after being pumped by a trich for a few months. Count me in for the next graft comp. I think an entry fee is a great idea and may I suggest that the trophy should be a great fat loph grafted onto a trich. I'm sure with enough people entering entry fees could cover the prize. It would also be good to get a few weeks notice before the comp starts as I've just planted all my loph seeds out and would have to get hold of some more. I'm sure I don't stand a chance at winning but if the prize is worth it i'll give it a bloody good shot.
  5. I found this article on the net - Org Lett. 2001 Dec 13;3 (25):4047-9 11735581 The first naturally occurring Tie2 kinase inhibitor. [My paper] B N Zhou , R K Johnson , M R Mattern , P W Fisher , D G Kingston [structure: see text] Bioassay-guided fractionation of the plant Acacia aulacocarpa, guided by a bioassay for Tie2 tyrosine kinase activity, yielded the novel triterpene 3,21-dioxo-olean-18-en-oic acid (1) as the first naturally occurring non-protein inhibitor of Tie2 kinase. The structure of 1 was assigned by analysis of spectral data. In addition to its activity as an inhibitor of Tie2 kinase, compound 1 also shows modest activity against a variety of cultured mammalian cells. http://lib.bioinfo.pl/pmid:11735581 As far as I can determine Tie2 kinase is an enzyme and if uncontolled leads to cancers. [0004] Protein kinases play a central role in the regulation and maintenance of a wide variety of cellular processes and cellular function. For example, kinase activity acts as molecular switches regulating cell proliferation, activation, and/or differentiation. Uncontrolled or excessive kinase activity has been observed in many disease states including benign and malignant proliferation disorders as well as diseases resulting from inappropriate activation of the immune system (autoimmune disorders), allograff rejection, and graft vs host disease. In addition, endothelial cell specific receptor PTKs, such as VEGF-2, Tie-2 and Lck mediate the angiogenic process and are, therefore, involved in supporting the progression of cancers and other diseases involving uncontrolled vascularization. http://www.freshpatents.com/Protein-kinase...20060009453.php Have I got the right idea on this plant or is there another slant to these articles? If so then this acacia contains a very unique anticancer drug.

    indigenous opioid bark

Better tasting in my opinion. It is probably not better for you as the billygoat plum has a very high vitimine c content. I guess that is why it tastes better as green plums are sweet and billygoat plums (high vit c) are sour. I have heard of some companies buying billygoat plum (T ferdinadiana) to add to (jungle juice) energy drinks and dietry suppliments. I don't know what the active constiuent is in green plum leaves and bark but I have heard that it is stronger then morphine. Couldn't say how accurate this claim is just that the original post to this thread sounded very much of the stories I've heard up here (top end) regarding green plum (B obovata). I'm not sure about making wine from them as you would need plenty. Both of the fruits are only small, not very juicey and have a large seed. You could just throw some in another brew to add flavour i guess.

    indigenous opioid bark

I have heard similar claims made of Buchanania obovata, Family Anacardiaceae (same as mango and cashew). It is prepared into a mouth wash by soaking the shredded inner bark in water for 4 hours then rinsing (not swollowing) the liquid. Tooth cavities are plugged with leaves and when the pain stops the mouthwash is used. I'm not sure how effective it is but I know the fruit is tasty because it grows everywhere here in the top end. The common name is green plum. In my opinion its better then the famous kakadu plum or locally known billygoat plum terminalia ferdinadiana,.

  11. Not sure if this has been posted
  12. I remember hearing of people doing this around 15 years ago. Can't remember the dose. Resulted in a quick rush that only lasted 2min at the most. It was out of date though so might have been reduced in its effects. I don't think this practice will replace meth because the effort of injecting adrenaline for a few minutes rush will wear off rather quick.

Grafting Comp- Feb 2007- No new entries

I'd be interested in competing next year but would have more chance if at least 1 outdoor section was keep in the comp. I've come to this a little late and am not sure on the yearly start dates and entry requirements. I'll get my stock ready for next year.

Grafting Comp- Feb 2007- No new entries

These two are my first attempts at grafting so they are a bit rushed (the peres were small when the grafts were done). Even so they are a late entry to the comp. - Seed germinated 23/04/07 - Grafted on 02/06/07 - Latest update 13/07/07
  15. Sorry not sure. The only advice I could give is to buy afew and start breeding them. As more people breed more snakes the prices come down as there is more available. Probably not so good for the breeder but good for the snakes and the new owners.
  16. The pics are a little old so I don't have any to sell. I just added them for interests sake. They where licenced though. I had to sell or give them all away after resigning from parks as I didn't want the hassle of dealing with them any more. Parks that is not the snakes. They are a pretty interesting hobbie though, well worth getting into.
