    Icaros DNA

All my trichs are fairly well stressed as i don't give them that much attention at the moment.

    Icaros DNA

I have three seed grown (about a year old) Icaros DNA seedlings. I remember reading somewhere that Icaros DNA seeds have a large amout of genetic diversity as they are collected from wild Trichocereus peruvianus source plants. Two of the seedling look like average Trichocereus. One of the seedlings has always looked a little darker green with a much more flat rounded appearance. This plant also dropped and picked up ribs as a seedling. It has now progressed in its weirdness to pup from the apical tip. Has anyone seen this type of behavour before in Icaros DNA plants?

    Icaros DNA

Yeah I've still got a few clones but she has calmed down and very rarely throws a wierd tip.
  4. I got these seeds labeled Psychotria "NN" from Kiwiboancaya otherwise know as shamanicplants - As this member is located in Peru I assume that this species is located there. And as this supplier has a strong focus on shamanic plants I will also assume that this Psychotria has some shamanic value, maybe as an Ayahuasca additive, but who know maybe not. Okay, here are the pics. The leaf tip The stipules The leaf domatia Leaf vaination Side on pic of the flower and flower form Some ant action Here is the deal. Who ever can convince me, with evidence of botanical literature, the species of this Peruvian Psychotria sp., can have one of the seedlings. I'll even pay postage. Good luck and let the hunt begin.

    Anadenanthera peregrina seed setting?

One of my trees set 4 pod around late December during a period of heavy rain. Only 2 of the pods have held since the rain stopped. The same tree has also set another bunch of flowers, so here's hoping i get some more pods set. I'll put up some pics soon once the pods are a little bigger.
  6. Abstract CONTEXT: Pereskia aculeata Miller (Cactaceae) is a cactus distributed from south to northeast of Brazil, where its leaves are commonly used as a vegetable, in skin wound healing, and to treat inflammation. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to perform the chemical characterization and to evaluate the antinociceptive activity of the hydromethanolic fraction obtained from the methanol extract of P. aculeata leaves. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Chemical characterization was performed by UPLC-MS analysis. The antinociceptive activity was evaluated by the acetic acid-induced writhing, formalin, and tail-flick tests in mice, administering the single oral doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg 1 h before each test. RESULTS: Tryptamine, abrine, mescaline, hordenine, petunidin, di-tert-butylphenol isomers, and quercetin were identified. The antinociceptive activity was inversely proportional to the administered doses in the acetic acid test, as the dose of 100 mg/kg reduced by 78% the number of writhings, while the doses of 200 and 300 mg/kg reduced by 64% and 41%, respectively. In the formalin test, the dose of 300 mg/kg inhibited by 50% and 86% the licking paw time in the first and second phases, respectively, while the doses of 200 mg/kg (45% and 62%, respectively) and 100 mg/kg (15% and 48%, respectively) were less effective. The sample did not respond to the tail-flick test. Those results suggested a peripheral and central antinociception devoid of an opioid effect. CONCLUSION: Pereskia aculeata not only is a plant food with high nutritional value but also presents analgesic potential. It is the first time that this bioactivity is reported for this species. 7. The internet and social media give us the ability to broadcast our thoughts and feelings to the world at a moments notice. While there are many advantages to this ability to instantly communicate and reach out to others, it also breeds an environment of over-sharing. Today, everyone seems to have a digital self. Our status updates on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest reveal a bit about who we are to the public. And as we know from countless controversies regarding celebrities and politicians, our digital self is intertwined with our public image and reputation. Social scientists sometimes refer to this phenomenon as ambient awareness, which is a peripheral social awareness that we pick up about a person depending on what they like and share on social media. I first heard about this concept in the book Smarter Than You Think: How Technology is Changing Our Minds for the Better. We have to be mindful of the ambient awareness we are sending to others. Whenever you like or share something on social media, you need to understand that you are sending out a signal to other people, and they are going to form a judgement about you based on that signal. 9. Much like the Holy Grail symbolised well-being, infinite wealth, and abundance of food in Arthurian literature, today the infamous neurotransmitter, serotonin, is linked with mood, attention, hunger and more (Young & Leyton, 2002; Wingen, et al., 2008; Feijó, et al., 2011). However, today serotonin may be accredited with too much. Just as Harmon (2009) described the effect of serotonin on the swarm process of locusts, serotonin seemingly has had the same effect on our neuroscientists (Harmon, 2009). Serotonin is one of three reptilian monoamine neurotransmitters, alongside dopamine and norepinephrine (Kolb & I.Q., 2003). The serotonin receptor has seven main subfamilies, more than the other two monoamines, and has even more subtypes. Although serotonin is indeed a crucial neurotransmitter, it is important to note that it is merely a modulator of other neurotransmitters. Serotonin fine-tunes the action of glutamate and GABA, the principal neurotransmitters, mediating the excitatory and inhibitory signals in the brain. The exception is 5HT3, which mediates the flow of ions (Ciranna, 2006). As a multifunctional neuromodulatory transmitter, to truly understand its function, there is a need to better understand the second-messenger pathways downstream to reveal the successive key biochemical steps. Serotonin is not the magic bullet for mental health, as penicillin was for gram-negative bacteria. It may only be one of several fingers on the trigger. 10. A new scientific study has found that those who are receptive to pseudo-profound, intellectual-sounding 'bulls***' are less intelligent, less reflective, and more likely to be believe in conspiracy theories, the paranormal and alternative medicine. PhD candidate Gordon Pennycook and a team of researchers from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, tested hundreds of participants to make the link, detailing their findings in a paper entitled 'On the reception and detection of pseudo-profound bulls***', which mentions the word 'bulls***' exactly 200 times (surely some sort of record). Read more Councils spend millions on controversial 'pseudo-science' lie-detector Defining bulls*** is a tricky task, but Pennycook and his team tried their best in the paper. As an example, they gave the following 'pseudo-profound' statement: "Hidden meaning transforms unparalleled abstract beauty." The paper says: "Although this statement may seem to convey some sort of potentially profound meaning, it is merely a collection of buzzwords put together randomly in a sentence that retains syntactic structure." 12. On October 13, the mandatory data retention scheme in Australia goes live. In late August, Quentin Dempster outlined the scale of information the government will legally force ISPs to collect. The list is extensive to say the least: For emails Who youve emailed Date, time you sent email Attachment data volumes For Phone Phone number of everyone you called Missed numbers 1800 numbers Number of everyone you SMSd Time, date of calls and SMSs Duration of calls Your rough location at time of call or SMS Online activity and social media Your IP address Time and duration of your web connections The law does not require carriers to retain destination IP addresses (your web browsing history), but a carrier may do so The volume of your uploads and downloads Location and geographical data The list of agencies authorised to access this information without a warrant is extensive, and is not exhaustive: ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organisation) Australian Federal Police All state and territory police forces The Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity Australian Crime Commission Australian Customs and Border Protection Service Australian Securities and Investments Commission Australian Competition and Consumer Commission NSW Crime Commission NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption NSW Police Integrity Commission Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission West Australian Corruption and Crime Commission South Australian Independent Commission Against Corruption Any other agency the Attorney General publicly declares Law enforcement and Intelligence agencies will have immediate, warrantless and accumulating access to all information required to be retained by law, and ISPs and telcos that choose to disagree can be penalised for $2 million for non-compliance. 15. Hey Cubism, Where did you get the seed from? All of my plants came from Kiwiboancaya seed around the end of 2010. The give away seeds are the first setting i've got on one of my 5 vines. Would love to know if some of the clones i have distributed have already set seed or if your seed came from elsewhere. Thanks

  17. All seed packs have been posted. 5 packs with around 10 seeds each. I would be great to have germination rates updated in the thread.
  18. Five years after his death, Owsley Bear Stanley may not be as well known as he once was, but nothing can ever take away his place in the history of the counterculture as the notorious 60s acid king, the underground chemist who cooked up the primo LSD that fueled Ken Keseys Acid Tests, blew minds at Monterey Pop, turned on the Beatles and probably half the hippies who ever tripped down Haight Street. In a long profile in Rolling Stone, Robert Greenfield wrote that no one did more to alter the consciousness of the generation that came of age in the 1960s. Be that as it may, Stanleys role in preserving the glory days of the San Francisco sound may end up being his more important and lasting legacy. As the original sound man for the Grateful Dead, he obsessively recorded the Deads shows as well as all the other bands that shared bills with the Dead in the 60s and 70s. Stanley called these sound board tapes his sonic journals, and the list of musicians and bands he recorded during that time is stunning, amounting to an audio snapshot of the psychedelic era. When the 76-year-old counterculture legend died in a car crash in Australia in 2011, he left behind a priceless archive of more than 1,300 recordings, including shows by Miles Davis, Steve Miller, Thelonious Monk, Dr. John, the Allman Brothers, Chuck Berry, Santana, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Jefferson Airplane, Electric Flag, Blue Cheer, Old and in the Way, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, the Youngbloods, Dan Hicks and Taj Mahal, among others. They are one of a kind, and theyre history, Sheila Stanley, Owsleys widow, said one recent afternoon at a friends home in San Anselmo. My husband was very pleased that these tapes have lasted for as long as they have. But they wont last much longer unless theyre digitally preserved, an expensive and time-consuming project. Theyve been in storage for 50 some odd years and are in danger of deterioration, she said, noting that experts have told her that if these rapidly degrading tapes arent digitized in the next five years, theyll be lost forever. She still gets royalties from Big Brother and the Holding Company Featuring Janis Joplin, a show Stanley recorded at the San Franciscos Carousel Ballroom in 1968 that was released by Sony Music shortly after his death. Im sure I would be very rich if all of them were done that way, she said. But I want to give back. Ive been very lucky. Thats what this is all about. Stanleys son, Starfinder, a 44-year-old Seabastopol veterinarian, formed the nonprofit Owsley Stanley Foundation with other family members and associates to raise the $200,000 to $300,000 its expected to cost to transfer the recordings to digital. Once thats done, profits from any commercial albums will go to the musicians and the foundations various causes, most notably music programs for young people. As a nonprofit organization, we want the money to go toward community outreach, to give scholarships to kids who want to study the arts, music and sound, she said. Bear would have preferred that. I think a nonprofit can do some good in the community. Continued in link - http://www.marinij.com/article/20151105/FEATURES/151109886
