  1. Its a WhiteCurlGrub I bet. Often confused with the witchetty grub.

You can get rid of them easily but they will damage your plants root system as this is what they feed off.

Birds love them when they can find em!

I've had my B.Caapi plant infested with them before - you may even notice these mud/bark base cocoons out of which they have hatched.

To rid them, I just use this granule poison sand stuff (kills most pests) which you shake out across your pots and water through thoroughly. Within the next few hours you'll have noticed some come up to the top to escape, but they'll be cactus.

for some reason i get errors if u post it if its not together (whitecurlgrub)

  2. Ok another update

5 days after birthing noticed first pins.

A day later there is large clumps of fungi forming.

Growth is going quite well so far, will keep the pics coming.

Also put some verm on top of one of the cakes that haven't had pins forming on the top yet to see if it can yield better.

    Peace

  3. I love this sentence:

All drug trafficking is currently the responsibility of federal police.

I presume this means that the drugs are really safe

The irony is that this is probably quite close to the truth. well, at least with the help of the CIA.

I wish it were good news for countries like Australia but i'm doubtful this announcement would even make a tiny dent on our governments political stance on drugs.

    Fkn government, they'll never understand......

  4. i'm a little north of sydney, and no problems leaving her outside during winter. she keeps growing thru the cooler weather. nowhere near as far south as you tho.

a little off topic: i was a bit puzzled with the slow growth rate at the beginning of spring this year, she's in the ground and only got rain water since she never looked like needing extra. then i gave her a good soaking over a few days, and now she's taking over! couldn't believe just how fast she took off. water water water people!

Same thing happened with mine in Sydney, Alice... She grows 5cm+ per day on numerous stems/vines!

  5. this would be the first time I ever heard of someone developing psychosis from one joint but I could see how it is possible.

I didn't mention one joint, but it was a few times, and he developed a severe case of schizophrenia. To the degree that at one point he was preparing to jump off a cliff because he believed he could fly. Another time he was running around his house naked and had covered his body in green paint.

It is so sad to see someone so nice as this guy to have this happen to.

There has been mental illness in his family so I believe that explains his onset, however as I mentioned before, it was only a few times that caused it.

  6. ...I know I sound silly, but I thought spam had purpose, umm you know like visit this link....or buy this pill.

I just curious as to what the statement 'I'm a spammer' achieves?

Does he get points/credit for every forum he joins? But why would someone pay for this? Is it just collecting data on what forums/numbers of are out there for statistical data? :scratchhead:

    AJ

The big time spam servers can end up being shutdown and the owner(s) getting busted.. In some cases, it is a serious crime.

I've read numerous news articles on spammers being fined huge amounts and even jail terms.

Though I doubt spammers on here would be classified as illegal as it is manually posted.

  7. I fully support legalization, but my one problem is the lack of information told to school students in drug education. In order for legalization to work, it HAS to come from a non anti-drug perspective. In not all circumstances is this drug "harmless".

One reason people have problems with weed and even worse - schizophrenia - (and it happened to someone very close to me) is that there isn't the awareness and education that there damn well should be. The drug education courses at school tell you only one main thing - and that is drugs are bad.

Whats the point if they know kids are gonna try them anyway? Its known logic - if you tell kids don't do it, they WILL!

  8. G'day all

Just wondering if it was worth trying to bother growin HBWR either in G/housse or outdoors in the SW of W.A.?

I'm guessing NO, but hey, bananas grow here, so anythin might be possible.

    Thanks

    Naja

It'll grow mate, but flowering may be a different story. Though I've heard people getting the odd seed pods in non tropical areas but as far as i'm aware its pretty rare.

I'm in Sydney and i've only had a cutting for a few weeks, but its growing well, although i'm not expecting flowers..

  9. Ok well unfortunately the rot ate through the WHOLE loph, i had to cut it off :( Was definitely orange rot, nasty stuff!

Does anyone know if this can spread through to the host cacti? I've cut the whole top about 1cm down from rot so it hopefully callouses fine.

Anyways, at least some good news out of this - the T.Pachanoi has given me a new pup formation. Cheers to that B)

  10. Just remembered i had an old post-flower chunk lying around,

Heres what i mean by the "flower root"

Pic 1 is taken at 90degree cut to the ribs,

    gallery_1274_18_74912.jpg

Pic 2 is the same cut, made at around 45 degrees downwards to chase the root,

    gallery_1274_18_12551.jpg

As i thought, it travels directly to the areole,as yours dosent. Sorry i dont have any arial rooting chucks to cut open and have a look. Interesting though... i never stop learning about these creatures :)

Good pics man, to be honest they look a little similar - although as you said its not directly traveling to the areole, fingers crossed that its a root!

  11. come to think of it, it may also be the"root" of a flower bud, or a flowering site that has fallen years ago. They can sometimes make a taproot kinda like this one. I wouldnt worry to much unless it gets bad, quick.

*edit* i thought it may be a flower site, but it doesnt match the areole spacing or alignment... Arial root that you happened to cut thru is my other guess.

I'm hoping its an aerial root mate :)

I'll chop it off like Apo suggested and see how it goes.

Will try to get some better close ups when I have a chance.

  12. When I say on an angle, I guess it's a halfway compromise between vertical and horizontal. The root doesn't have to be pointing directly down into the soil, it just has to know there's some soil around to grow into :)

Aerial roots aren't all that uncommon. They can happen for a variety of reasons, and usually if they discover they aren't growing into a nutritious medium then they just die and fall off or don't grow any larger.

This is a bit of a weird situation I guess, but let's see what happens first

It is certainly a weird situation haha, ah well, i'll let you know how it goes mate.

Cheers again for the help :innocent_n:

  13. Awesome stuff! This thread deserves to be an archival one. Best I've seen here for beginners.

One thing I've seen with the PF cake birthing is the adding of a bit of 'casing' moistened vermiculite to the top of the cakes to keep it moist. Don't know how much more it helps but there's a reason for everything as they say.

    Cheers for that mate :)

I'm not sure why but i've only really done the top verm casing after the first flush.

Not sure if that is the norm but its just been my method.

Maybe because it makes it look messy in the grow chamber with vermiculite everywhere haha.

  14. If you like, I don't see why not.

I usually plant my small chunks on an angle so 90% of the chunk is underground with only a few areoles showing.

Might try that then. Is it ok for the 'possible rooted part' to be on top though, thats why I suggested planting horizontally.

I'm finding it hard to believe how it could be a root on the top of the cutting though lol

Cheers for the replies Apo, champion :)

  15. Oh it's at the tip?

Apologies I didn't realise (thought it was an upside down photo of the base).

Still say it's a root! Chop it 5cm down should be plenty to see what happens!

Yeah mate at the tip,Sorry for the confusion lol.

I'll give it a cut tonight and see how we go.

One question though... Because the possible root is at the tip, after it callouses, shall I plant it horizontally?

  16. Plant it whole and check it in a week. If it's stuck in the soil it was a root and you can chop it down as far as you want (although I'd just leave it whole anyway), because it's rooted.

Hi mate, its already been planted, i've put it in the ground where the cutting was taken from (was a pup from a mother i'm presuming) - I know that the bottom part is the one thats in the soil - thats why I'm not sure if it is a root or not as its rooted at the TOP of the cutting
