  1. Hi All, About 3 weeks ago I attempted my first cacti graft (I guess I could've done some less expensive specimens.. but anyway), using a nice T.Pachanoi and a smallish healthy button of San Pedro (Loph.W). In the first two weeks it looked all fine and well, and the peyote cactus has stuck on to the pachanoi. My only worry is the bottom of the peyote is starting to brown a bit and the whole thing has become quite soft to touch. It is still attached quite securely though. It also still seems quite green up the top, but not as green as my other one growing on its own. Should I be worried it is not going to work due to the browing on the bottom part of the graft and its softness, or is this a pretty common thing to occur in the early stages of the graft? Cheers in advance. Peace, KlUe

    B.Caapi

Yeah thats true, I just thought as it is a tropical plant it won't mind the humid conditions as it would be similar to its original environment. Please correct me if i'm wrong though! KlUe
  3. I'm at work, but i'll msg my bro to move it into some shade. I'll take some pics this afternoon
  4. I did my homework but unfortunately it was a spare of the moment thing and the knife I used didn't cut as straight as i'd have liked it, so it probably explains the hard time the loph has had trying to connect with the pachanoi. The vascular rings were definitely lined up though. The nice green colour is starting to return to the loph now, especially on the top, but it has had the purplish colour mostly around the side area that people say it gets when it gets too much light... even though it only gets about 1/4 day full sun... is that normal? Hasn't plumped up really.... I gave it some weak ferts for the first time (mix of seasol and maxicrop) so we'll see what happens within the next week. KlUe

    fertilising khat?

Is it in a pot? If so, have you tried sheltering it from the frosty winds in a greenhouse or protected area? I'm sure it would help a little against the cold damage. I'm hoping mine will establish well enough for the oncoming winter...!

Yeah mate, a good time waster, also good to look at while enjoying a good smoke of MJ or the like! Especially the Hubble photos etc where it shows all those colourful galaxies, stars and planets etc.

    alternative to glove box

Agree Ace, that box looks the bomb But then again, a quick spray of misted isopropyl in a newly cleaned bathroom/kitchen seems to have worked for me fine, and I doubt i'll ever use a box.

    fertilising khat?

I would've thought it would more be along the lines of "plucking" instead of "picking", where you pluck new areas of growth to make the plant grow a larger amout of new stems

    Sad Sally

Just out of interest, I've read they naturally spread by actually snapping and rooting from the break, is this at all encouraged to happen when growing in pots to keep it "under control"?

    Anyone else into knives?

I agree mate, but as Moses said, I also love the craftmanship.... Its good looking, and apart from the fact I'd never kill anyone with it (well, there could be the odd exception), i've used the extremely sharp blade for numerous tasks around the house and the garden, even though thats not its designed feature.

    Anyone else into knives?

I've got a USMC Ka-Bar knife imported from their website a few years back. Lovely looking knife, very strong, perfect weight. I believe it is/was the US Marines standard issue. Pic quality isn't the best, took it from my phone without focusing properly. *edit - uploaded a pic from their website

    P.Viridis issues

Hi guys, I recently purchased a P.Viridis from SAB, and due to the stress it was attacked by aphid looking bugs. So, I spray them and they die, plant seems to look alot healther within the next few days after that with new growth visible. All good, so far! But: Now i've been recently noticing ant nests in another plant near my ethnobotanical area, so I removed them yesterday in fear of them moving to my treasured plants. But AFTER i moved the plants with ants in the root system, they move straight to the P.Viridis!! At the moment its not too bad but I can see them moving a whole nest into the pot within the next few days. Question is, does anyone have any idea how to get rid of these pests without doing a full repot and stressing the hell out of the plant (again)? Is there a common pesticide I can buy to treat it with? The stuff I used to treat the aphids things won't work with ants as they're much tougher. Thanks in advance! KlUe
  25. Hi guys, Good news, the cacti has definitely grafted on to the Pachanoi. I do have one question though, in one of the side parts that has shrivelled slightly, I can see a root coming down from the Peyote.. Is this normal? Not sure if I should just leave it or what. Obviously its not going to root into the pachanoi because its already closed up. Suggestions?
