    Cereus peruvianus monstrose

Nice find mac. It's cool cuz they retain their form even as cuttings. What area did you get the cuttings from?
  2. Looks like it's doing awesome mac. It can be hard to get Trichos to grow thicker than it's base IMO. I would just re-pot it in into a much larger pot, even if it seems too big at the time cuz it will grow into it. The idea is that when you do this, you make the soil line a bit higher so that there are more areoles in darkness with the potential of growing roots. This will also make it more stable just from more soil supporting it.

    Lophophora ID

Are the crystals just the top dressing or are they being used for all the soil. Never seen that before.
  5. nam shub of enki are amazing. They do interesting stuff with sampling too. Mmmmmm.... Looping samples. Mmmmmm.... Looping samples. Mmmmmm.... Looping samples. Mmmmmm.... Looping samples.

    Electron Microscope

I forgot to add that they would be for microscopy purposes only. Don't get me wrong, I'm just looking for ideas. Not some weird scam. I only mentioned it cuz I don't have much of collection my self.

    Electron Microscope

If people had prints to donate this might be possible. I love the T-shirt idea TI. I might look at something like that. I'll see what happens.

    Cacti "greenhouse"

Personally I don't think 50% cloth would be over kill. Maybe even try 70% IMO if your mainly growing lophs. Maybe just try 50 this summer and play it by ear from there. Let us know what works best for you.

    Happy Birthday Mu.!

Hope it turns out to be everything you may have hoped and expected. Good luck with the journey ahead.
  10. There is an aussie guy named Prier who does some pretty awesome stuff. Definitely worth a look.

    Cacti "greenhouse"

Kinda depends on what type of plants you plan on growing. What are you looking at? For the roof on my house I use polycarbonate woven type material which is about 20% - 30%. Then in summer I put green 50% shade cloth over. That's suited to the plants I grow though.

    More cacti to ID

The ones in the 5th pic are Euphorbias. Don't know what species. Might even be the one plant. The one on the left in the last pic I'm pretty sure is a Pachycereus.

    Exam results

Well done to everyone this time around. Alkatrope, you're going to go far my friend.
  14. Criticism can still be made in a constructive manner that's not insulting. What's the point of even telling someone that they're wrong if you don't do it with the hope that the point will change. With out that intention, all that's left is the insult.

    ID Help !!

#5 is a Echinocereus, not sure what species it is. Last one looks a Euphorbia trigona, I think.

    Grafting with old tricho's

From my knowledge HK, I'm not sure how well it will work seeing as the vascular tissue on the stock and norma cutting my be too old and woody to take. This is why growers tend to do grafts on the fresh growth of stocks to improve the chances of a healthy union. I've done grafts on old pachanoi stock with miniatures and sometimes they survive but won't take properly making them grow really slow if at all. This might be different though. Either way I'm interested to see how it goes, I hope it does well.

    ID please

No worries EG. I'm not great with the trichos anyway, the taxonomy is too political for me to be bothered with. I always find the biologists love to group plant genera where the collectors love to separate them and that's why collectors tend to use older names. Thanks for letting me know either way. Is this based on the new lexicon?

    ID please

Welcome to the forum Pacha. Just to avoid confusion, this cactus used to fall under the genus (group) Trichocereus but as Mr B said is now Echinopsis. Might make it easier to relate it to other threads.

    Moldy stuff on Trichocereus spines?

I know someone who does this with soap on his Astros. It works and doesn't seem to harm the plant. I guess it depends on what soap you use. Spacemonk, do you do this to your peruvians as well?
  20. Check out the first post, it has a complete list. Yeah I saw it, just be careful in saying it's a complete list. If you really want to advance this project here's what you should advance try. Make a give away thread and say you offer a couple of seedlings of each species to prooved good grafters. In their part, those who do receive the cacti will have to return a bioessay theirs or their friends or return some plant material to you, as contribution to the whole progect. That sounds ok, although if someone were to do this there would be the issue the consistency of the growing conditions, soil used, fert etc. In theory space wouldn't be an issue at my place either as I'm clearing out a whole lot of plants out of my house soon.

Second last one is a Pelecyphora aselliformis v. monstrose. Last is a Cintia knizei v. variegate. Zelly is the Cintia monstrose as well or just like that cuz it's grafted? Did you get any of these plants from the wild? Just so you know, I would do unimaginable things just to see the last two plants in person let alone have them in my collection. I'm off now to get some tissues.
  22. Link I'd love to hear people's opinions on this. Edit: Sorry just realised this should have been put into the Sustainable Technologies section. Feel free to move it.
  23. I think there is a lot of research that has not been done on minature Mexican cacti. Either via grafting or shier quantity I don't the area is as pointless as you make it out to be. Are you refering to minatures or just Pelecyphora? I think Gymnocalycium and Ariocarpus have a lot of potential IMO, would you think these genera would be worth it?

    Winter time cactus shots.

Mammillaria is a really large genus. I don't think these traits of the spines are constant through the whole group which make its harder to tell with this. I've seen mamms with red, white, brown and black spines. Some with barbs, some with big hooks and some not at all. Either way the crested plant should have similar traits to the normal version. Then again, who knows with mostrose plants.
