    Acacia phlebophylla

Wow,those are some wide phyllodes! She is a nice plant. What are your winters like ED? We have serious rains for 5 months out of the year with alot of nights of freezing temps. I'd love to not have to cover my phleb, but I fear rot due to the high percipitation . Here's my phleb, finally in the ground after 7.5 years. She has really taken off since she's been in the ground. I loosened up the native soil for a few feet deep and added pumice and granite. Patiently awaiting flowers.

    Serious question

Why in the world do people place Trichocereus cuttings up on a pedestal? Some of the asking and selling prices of these cuttings is just absurd! Perhaps a shortage of Trichoereus plants? Will people just buy them regardless of cost? I'm a serious collector, but damn. It's not like I don't have the funds, but it just doesn't feel right. It just seems like people are taking advantage of peoples ignorance. Please, tell me I'm wrong,or that I'm missing the point all together, etc. Just simply supply and demand?

    Serious question

PD, The thread was started because I was apalled by SOME of the prices being asked by SOME sellers,I possibly over generalized. Please don't imply that I'm boasting about the cacti giveway. The statment was in response to a direct question for which I had a direct answer. No,I don't believe it's wrong to sell Trichs at all.I plan to start selling Trichs myself, though it won't be easy,as It's really hard to let go of plants to strangers. Like I said,I have learned why the plants go for what they go for. As for the price of a standard plant, $1 U.S. an inch is reasonable,so thats .40 a cm. If we're talking rare named clones such as the RSFAT4 ,or wild collected forms from Peru I'd be hard pressed to sell them for less than $3 an inch. This is if I would in fact sell them at all. I acknowledge where everyone is coming from, but someone had to ask.

    Serious question

Sina, As stated above ''Like I said, the input from you guys has been valuable in assisting me in understanding the reasons Trich's sell for what they sell for in Aus .You called me out on what a reasonable price would be,I concede that I have no answer other than the answer's that have been posted in this thread by you members who actively sell cacti.''. I didn't say ''only by members who sell cacti''.

    Serious question

C'mon guys, lets remain civil. I'll admit,I've been educated as to the asking prices for these cacti, thank you for that. Strangebrew, You're right,I spaced on the whole conversation now that you bring it up,but I really don't recall balking at your offer though.Seriously! Sina, Like I said, the input from you guys has been valuable in assisting me in understanding the reasons Trich's sell for what they sell for in Aus .You called me out on what a reasonable price would be,I concede that I have no answer other than the answer's that have been posted in this thread by you mambers who actively sell cacti. Hunab ku, Go check out the trade forum at the Nook. I gave away 100 + 10cm trichs this last fall for free.I only asked for postage.Hell man I even had to fork out funds for postage because people flaked on me,but you'll always run into flaky bastids.

    Serious question

O.K.,I get it. I agree, there is alot of defensive selling of opinions here.I didn't intend on insulting anyone or their actions, just asking a few questions.Ultimately it doesn't matter anyway, people will pay what they believe its worth or not. How many here in this thread actively sell cacti in oz? I understand the defensive stance. Appreciate the time.

    Serious question

Can you elaborate and/or assist this Amerikan in understanding,if you have a moment?

    Serious question

Well I've been collecting for a good ten years now and understand the in's and out's of collecting, hell I'm still a fanatic and it's a wonderful thing. I agree that in the end overpriced cuttings will pay for themselves.I've paid well over $150 for a 12'' cutting, even more once postage from Peru is accounted for,and don't regret it for a moment.Yes this cutting, and many others will also pay for themselves once released. So I really do understand the whole supply/demand concept, and what being a collector requires. The Australian clones are very desirable to a collector like myself, but what makes them so desirable is the fact that I can't aquire them, not without re-financing my house! That is the basis of the artificial inflation of prices from the perspective of an outsider. However,I just don't grasp the asking prices for you locals that easily have access. I am slow though.

    Serious question

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.Having said this, prices might just be perceived as reasonable. If I were just starting to collect Trich's I think it would be prohibitively expensive to even begin due to the cost of plants. Hell,I rarely buy plants nowadays,I mostly just trade. This is why most of my collection consists of stumps and small cuttings, because as soon as I receive something new I'm already cutting it up to send to other collectors. As an online community it feels as if we have strayed from the collective path of reciprocity, into the pit of capitalistic greed.I understand, and very much appreciate online stores such as SAB,Allies,SS and so on.I've raised many fine plants from these sources, and couldn't of without their existance, but thats a givin. In general, I am in constant awe of the generosity offered to me by many who frequent ethnobotanical forums like these.Simply blows me away. Something just seems off though, perhaps it's me while I sit here with both feet in my mouth. I'm in the process of starting a Trich farm,so this will be good for business, domestically.

    Serious question

You've got some valid points EG. I suppose I'm just annoyed by the ridiculous prices people place on these plants, and ethnobotanicals in general. So this can now be moved to 'bitches and gripes' section.

    Serious question

I wouldn't describe my question as a bitch or a gripe, but opinions are like....... Simply supply and demand.

    Sold as T pachanoi seed

Peruvianus 'Tarma',from pachanoi seed. I think Mesa had a seed mix up. Peruvianus seed bought at the same time came out very cuzcoensis.

    phytosanitary cert to import?

Usually just luck of the draw. When sending both seeds and plants its best to send them in two different packages.

    germinating reluctant knize trico seed

I've tried germinating the very same seed Osprey mentioned. I sowed perhaps 3 dozen species and the Knize seed was the only reluctant batch.I use a heat pad the hovers around 85 degrees during the day when on,and temps drop into the 40's at night. A few of the 339 and 919's popped up,but thats it so far. I raised some 339's a few years back, very uniform plants! I recently placed all the knize seed in the fridge, hopefully that'll do something. Teotz, you hate a person because of his business practices, that is harsh! I questioned Knizes practices for a while. However, he is honorable and does what he can. He's a great source for trich varieties, and I for one am glad he offer's what he does.I ordered some plants from him a while back which were confiscated by customs,I thought I was outta luck and just had to write it off as a lesson learned. To my astonishment he re-sent the plants to make it right, blew me away and made me re-evaluate my pre-concived notion of him.Give him a break man!

    Michael's pachanot

Inyan, I've raised pachanoi seedlings from several sources, the only resulting seedlings that resembled pachanoi were from Knize, labled as 339.All the others were peru/cuzco types.
  19. I'm not sure if the bridgesii var. eusaporous tastes good, but it is said to have lingering negative effects. It's also known as RS0005.

    frigidii bridgesii

Are you talking celsius Pisgah? I've had many survive into the the teens Fahrenheit, never sub zero though. Bridgesii seedlings seem to be the least hardy in my experience.Mac and pach pull through just fine. Sorry for your loss.

    Oz Trichs

It seems I've pretty much collected most domestic(u.s.) trich clones,so its time to collect some of the highly coveted Oz clones. Small cuttings are prefered due to shipping costs,I can always grow them out here, obviously. I have a list of plants available if anyone can help me out. Thank ya,thank ya very much.

Usually high phosphorus ferts will bring out multiple basal pups in potted plants, not sure about plants in the ground though. Beautiful pics!
