  1. What is the process involved in naming new hybrids?

scrolling through some of the auction sites I am bewildered by the names people attach to the clones they are selling. I can find no mention of them in any current literature.
with a lot of new members joining the forum lately I thought this might be a good topic to clarify the actual process.

  2. I have one friend who i share a long history with. We catch up about every 12 months but its always like we seen each other yesterday. A strong bond can probably explain that. However when he is stressed out or i am for whatever reason we always call each other out of the blue. We've done alot of Dimitri together and had very similar experiences and it really does make you think whether you can get so close to another soul that you can feel their emotions.... like really see a beacon when they need it. weird but whatevz

  3. Break it down into the actual components you need.

Glass, get yourself a glass cutter. Head to the salvage yard, contact local builders and demolition crews.

Frame, you only really need aluminium angle to keep your glass in place.

you can knock up the rest of the frame with pretty cheap materials that are easy to source.

stay well clear of plastic liners and cheap options, they just don’t work if you want something permanent

And where did you get yours from?

I'm not so sure i should share that information now @Paradoxical haha.

I know a bloke who's grandfather was in to cactus. A real Aldous Huxley sort of character. The family is moving on some of his bits and pieces and i was lucky enough to get offered some.

I will throw up a photo as soon at it arrives.

  5. Now that i've got your attention, What is it you have learned? From the plants, from the experience of growing and communicating with others from a community that at some stage in your life you probably never knew existed?

Personally i have learned that there is a universe bigger than anything any of us could possibly conceive that is as complex as it is simple. As chaotic as it is ordered and as relevant as it is not.

There is a history that we are taught and a history that is true, a sad fact that the reality most of us live in is a lie told to generations. Yes just from plants!!

The plants really are our teachers, whether we accept it or not they hold onto the wisdom that can be suppressed  by governments or conquistadors and deliver when we are ready. There are answers to the next generations questions in our gardens. We are all protectors of the knowledge we share

    Love

P.S this is not a psychotic episode haha

Ah ok was pretty sure were mulloway so thanks for confirming, yea iv'e been using pilchard for the most part, when the fish are about it does seem to get cleaned of the hook pretty quick(I usually use over sized hooks because i wanna avoid hooking undersized fish necessarily).

But even so, at night it seems no matter what bait i get no bites at all even though they seem so active jumping all over the place, I have been using a runner rig but am wondering if that is to focused on bottom feeding and at night they may be purely surface feeding? Do you have any suggestions for rigging? I was thinking  maybe a float setup but haven't had a float on me when I've been down there.

I Would probably give the float a miss mate. You'll be pulling your line in too often to keep it in front of you. Pick a sinker to stick you on the bottom and a nice bit of squid and then patience

  7. I used to do a bit of fishing down that way ZooL. Mulloway are a bit sketchy through the day, night time is best to land the big ones if your land based. Best bait i have found is squid, it stays on the hook better than pilchards or pippies. Probably the most important factor is picking a change in the tide and being set up and ready for it. The big fish jumping at night are Mulloway 100%. A wire tracer would be beneficial too, we used to pull in Gummy sharks when the Mulloway were on the bite.

Take it from my experience of frying cacti, get them used to the local conditions by having them in a semi shaded area for at least a week and then put them somewhere that gets a good few hours of sun for another week before smashing them with the full force of the sun.  That said I think cacti are a bit happier in filtered light anyway.  It seems to give them a break instead of fighting against the constant intensity of the sun and the bluer cacti end up much bluer for it too.

I'll second that mate. After alot of moving pots around my property i've found a semi shaded/filtered spot is best for colour and consistent growth rate. I have noticed that the afternoon sun is best to be avoided in my area over summer as it just cooks my stock. Would be interested to know if anyone else moves there cactus out of the afternoon sun over summer??

  9. This is scary stuff indeed for anyone that can remember a world without the World wide web of internets.

But perhaps the youngins that have been born into a world under these controls would not have the same fears, even if those fears should be felt. They have been brought up in a different world, conditioned by the advertising companies that keep them wanting the next upgrade without reading the fine print.

It's going to get worse before it gets better, and it's not getting better till it all falls down

  10. Thank you andros88,

I have battled away for the last 20 years, know the signs, and can usually reign it in to a manageable level (though never relieved). I'm getting tired of the fight, but know that if i cross the dark line it's game over for me. I hate living on this edge but it feels like this is were i'm supposed to be. Every time i gain a bit of ground, career, relationship, family balance stc, it all just blows up in my face.

I will try your method, see if i can get a moment of peace between my ears.

i have tried meds in the past but i dont find them effective which led me on the path to this community; I find tempoary relief in plant medicines but have got to the point were i think maybe this world just isnt for me.

  11. WOW, i'm having a bit of a rough trot (apologies for my absence). The black dog demons are really getting the best of me lately. The more i try to keep them at bay the more i self sabotage and let them run riot. The more i research and try and take positive steps, the more the negative traits i posses take over my chosen course. I;m not one to give in but FUCK i can see why some do. Give me some inspiration guys.

Focus on hillsides with a southern or south east aspect.

Avoid pastures that have had superphosphate applied, this kills mycelium. Fencelines with trees are always worth a look.

Make friends with dairy farmers' daughters!

Not only do dairy farmers daughters have access to the pastures... Their milking technique is also very handy
