  1. "Well, O.K," she says, "I'll come on back,
    Or you come to my place" - ya gotta love that.
    I've heard parents speak of their children on stage -
    Ya gotta love that, at primary school age.
    When driving along, the first time you see
    Your band's street poster, accidentally;
    Friday night after work; or Steve Waugh out to bat;
    There's beer in the fridge - ya gotta love that.

    "It's only a lump" - ya gotta love that
    When the tests are done, and results are back;
    Unleaded's got cheaper; a seat on the wing;
    When at last you're sure she keeps on looking;
    The Kerrigan's castle; and Kafka's? - unsure;
    Literary allusions that aren't too obscure;
    You're in bed by ten - ya gotta love that -
    After too many nights late back to back.

    Some racist bastard says, "Why, you little black…"
    Che Cockatoo Collins talkin' right back -
    Ya gotta love that; and the phone finally rings -
    It's the girl calling; when Paul Robeson sings;
    Lust, before it goes away - and then when it's back;
    Flashing high beams to warn of a speed trap -
    Ya gotta love that. Your band writes a slow track,
    And some people like it. Ya gotta love that

  2. id leave that too.

    about the secateurs, some of you might think that's a bit harsh and would cause damage, but you can get them in there and close them up almost to the point of cutting, get it aligned correctly and then just SNIP, in one full motion. I do it for tbms and columnar pup cuts and it works like a charm, never had an issue

  3. sharp secateurs, just snip em off at the union. but If youre gunna slice through the middle of a piece then yeah, leave aeroles for pupping. depends how much you've got to work with I guess. pics of what youre planning on cutting would help.

  4. In eternity, where there is no time, nothing can grow. Nothing can become. Nothing changes. So death created time to grow the things that it would kill and you are reborn but into the same life that you've always been born into. I mean, how many times have we had this conversation detectives? Who knows? You can't remember your lives, you can't change your lives, and that is the terrible and secret fate of all life. You're trapped, by that nightmare you keep waking up into.

  5. the site is slow, that's for sure, can I suggest removing the "like" function, aside from it being all too reminiscent of FB it allows people to contribute without really contributing. without a "like" option people may be more inclined to post a comment.

    the pure information base is what keeps me coming back, all readily accessible via search. that's the difference between here and FB, 15 years of posts and info, from memory FB was tedious to try and go back through and find what you were looking for.

    I too am guilty of writing up posts and then when it comes time to post im like na, fuk it. delete. mainly cause im not up for debates, I just like to say my piece and that's it.

  6. So my big guy had a tumble during melbournes wild weather about a month or 2 ago, soon after she fell I noticed a few flower buds poking through, heres hoping. same with the big scop, it tumbled the week after the arid art. I had many things come down that had been stable for 8+ years through all kinds of weather. once a few fell it weakened the whole lot, the pots were all locking each other in.

    heres the tip now of the arid art mac.

  7. everywhere I look there is cactus. cactus cactus cactus.

    one of my neighbours who ive yet to introduce myself to has a large 10-12ft tall monstrose something in their back yard, a big tall bush, I can only get the slightest glimpse of it when I drive past, pretty sure it will just be a cereus peruvianus monstrose but I can only hope and dream. once I work through my back log of cacti and other work I will knock on their door.

  8. I know its not in line with the general vibe of this thread but if you do decide you want to kill them I recommend boric acid, I got some from the US on ebay, theres a  quarry near California from memory, few years since I used it, came as a nice big suss looking bag of white powder, I bought a pound of it and that was total overkill.

    At my old joint I had areas of the garden that were just no go zones due to jumping jacks (dunno the proper name). I have a shocking memory and id find myself thinking I was lazy for not cleaning up certain areas of the garden, once a year or so id hook into them and would suddenly remember..oh yeah, that's why I don't garden there.

    I only did one area on a hillside where I was building a rockwall terrace kind of thing and it worked a treat, never saw an ant there again. just mix the powder with some water, and maybe some sugar, i don't think ratios are too important, and place some jar lids filled with the water around the place. give it a fortnight or so. it works by dehydrating them to death and they take it back to the nests and it infects everything. same as ant rid really but more affordable and technically it is organic, its just quarried. albeit on the other side of the world.

  9. Thanks for the replies people,, much appreciated. I will definitely go ahead with this. I kind of thought if I could hack nth Vietnam I should be pretty right, just wanted to put it out there to see what people thought. A car does seem like too much hassle, and cost. I think the motor bike will be much more practical, I cant see myself doing a whole lot of camping, I will probably stay in hostels and peoples houses if the opportunity arises and should I need to camp im imagining that I will be able to stash and camouflage the  bike for the night if I really need to (maybe im dreaming, I guess each campsite is different and I will just play it as it comes). I should be able to pick up a few Spanish phrases to get me by, I figure the best way to learn is to go there.

  10. no, no spanish. male. ive travelled before In 2010, did Thailand, then overland into and through Cambodia into south Vietnam and then up to Hanoi. was mainly by ourselves, did a motorbike tour for part of Vietnam. I had a partner for that trip though.

    I learnt a lot from that trip, especially north Vietnam. I wont be carrying any flash stuff that's for sure, except a camera and computer and clothes for all occasions, ie hot cold wet. not a dinner suit lol.

  11. ive had a hellish year, moving, selling, planting, building. I was thinking I might take 3 months when im finally settled and go to Peru/Bolivia/ Ecuador/ Chile  and buy a motorbike and suss out some cacti and ancient stuff.

    I was just wondering what people think about me doing it on my lonesome, would it be safe do you think.

  12. disgusted, horrified, but not in the least bit surprised. I lost faith in the American people when they re elected W Bush, this is another nail in the coffin. The loss for Hillary is an indication the people are fed up with the "traditional" parties which is good, im just sad that its someone like trump who has benefited from it. interesting times ahead.

  13. really ...? I thought grandiflorus was more columnar, I have no experience with it though except that it has longer spines or at least a longer central spine than spachianus, I thought spachianus and  grandiflorus had relatively similar growth habits. columnar.

    yep im all good with the ornatum ID, a bloody nice one it is too.

    other one is meant to be bishops hat..not sure on the botanical name though

  14. re. JFK

    there is no doubt in my mind that the was shot because of the positions he has taken.

    "Peace, peace, peace, Peace, peace, peace, some say that is useless to speak of peace, peace peace peace peace, too many think that it is unreal, peace, too many of us think it is impossible, Peace, peace, peace and freedom, Peace and Freedom, Freedom and Peace, peace and freedom, not peace at the expense of freedom, But both peace and freedom, Genuine peace, Genuine peace, In a just and genuine peace, Means of assuring peace, world peace, world peace like community peace, a world of peace, pursuing the paths of peace, The strategy of peace, for peace is a process, There is no single simple key to this peace, universal peace and good will, peace need not be impractical and war need not be inevitable, we must therefore persevere in the search for peace, first examine our attitude toward peace itself, I realize the pursuit of peace is not as dramatic as the pursuit of war, and frequently the words of pursuers fall on deaf ears, but we have no more urgent task, I speak of peace  therefore as the necessary rational end of rational men"
