well other plants I planted earlier have stood up and im watching the ones in the pic slowly rise. and at my old joint I had a 1m pachanoi snap at the base, I just left it, and within 3 months it was standing straight again

worst comes to worst just cut as much as possible, then be there with a slab/carton/box of beer when they demolish and get the bulldozer to set it aside as best as they can.

slings will work man, it will just be a slow process. lift a little then get in there and chip away and repeat until shes free

I would imagine so, the key word being imagine. That thing will have a beast of a root system man, I would think digging to 1m might be better, even then I wouldn't be surprised if you need to get under there with a chainsaw to actually cut it loose. even a 500kg crane might stress if you don't actually cut it loose before hoisting. all just guess work though, your there.

personally I would cut as much as possible from the mother plant, it will likely get damaged in any removal process anyway

the grass dies off in summer, but yeah, just using the ride on mower and wipper snipper so far to keep the grass at bay, im hoping eventually the root systems from the cacti will eliminate at least a bit of the grass. im trying to avoid poison if possible and planning on using shears for very close to the plants.

I had mine under the eaves from dec till around april, they got the odd splash when the rain was wild enough. Probably not the best idea for me to move them outdoors just before winter but I was rushed. Id flip that guy, give him a month dry and then start watering gently, I used to go past them with a spray bottle set to the fine stream, not mist, and just give them a squirt now and then. tease the roots out, I always remember a little piece of info that I picked up from I cant remember...cacti put out roots in search of water, not in response to it. could be wrong but that approach works well for me. I cant really comment on your climate, but down here I generally (but apparently not with the Valida..lol. shrugs) just plant stumps straight out into the sun and rain unless I know theyre delicate or been out of direct light for a while. As long as theyre well healed they seem to be fine...mostly. If anything I have more trouble with rot than sunburn. were getting UV of 13-14 at the moment, maybe that extra point makes a lot of difference edit- and the pups were all up by april, they haven't done a lot yet this season

yeah man, I think your right, flip that bitch, on the plus side at least the top(bottom) will be well healed. The 'V' notches on the aeroles always point down, more pronounced on some cacti than others but you should be able to make it out on the Validas.

if anyone wants to pm me a map or a list of coordinates I would be extremely grateful, or even just a vague list of 'areas' as you've shown in your example sagi. I was planning on just winging it, I wont be cutting much if anything at all, at most I might try n bring back one tiny cutting 10cm or so. my ride ons got a stubby holder so shes all sweet. grass dies off for summer too. yeh..I mentioned those leaning in the first post, they'll stand up on their own.

just to clarify, there will be more, but this is just about it for this years planting except for bits and pieces I pick up along the way, still got at least 3 times as much space again. it will slow down though, ive planted pretty much at least 1 of everything I have from 10+ years collecting. so I wont be able to maintain this pace.

roseis are always slow to root and pup ime, 1 more so than 2. ive stuff from this time last year and the 2s are just pupping, nothing on the 1s, where as fields macro is pupping like mad, along with a lot of other stuff. Validas in full sun, in retrospect I should have brought them undercover for winter, where other stuff its not necessary. im sure once they establish themselves well they'll be fine over winter, just that initial rooting time when they seemed to need extra care. who knows, maybe it is the size of them as you say Glaukus, the survival potential stopping them from rooting quickly may be the same thing that's making them weaker over winter...less likely to be adaptable and just hold its ground...if that makes sense. but im not overly experienced with the larger girth cacti.

same here, same stock, same timeframe. couple of deadies (pups) from winter. I don't pick them up to check for roots but they all feel pretty solid in the pots maybe they like the southern environment?

i cant speak for cordobensis or rob or lance, but i know a guy who suggested that super ped was a rosei 1 cross of some kind. This person has a world of super ped and has done for many years so this suggestion has come from a long time of observing the plants, also in this persons garden rosei1 gets as fat as super ped. we know it comes from cactus country so with that we should be able to narrow the list slightly, is there any scop out at cactus country? ive never been there.

all going well and barring me going to jail for cutting off some thiefs hands, open to the public summer 2021. picnic tables and bbq pits, and maybe the odd campsite as well.
