Cactus of the month year day thread? Which cactus is really shining for you right now?

Not yet, yes I see its time for t.poco, tarijensis, will get some. Most of the plants here are bridge, perivianus, pachanoi, some terscheckii, werdermanius, hybrids and a lot of echinopsis-hybrids, not columnar. Next year we add complementary plants. These place will be created for the purpose of inspiration and gathering cactusgrowers and cactuslovers. More to tell, when the first winter was gentle to the plants. I have no experience with cactis here and the cactis and I face the challenges and natures will.

Cactus of the month year day thread? Which cactus is really shining for you right now?

Thanks. I am building it up, poco a poco, step by step. Yes it is a lot of work and the stones are heavy, after some hours working with them. Next year I will make some space between the plants. First step was to bring the cacti in the ground. The place was in a natural situation, a lot of shrubs, bush and no terraces at all. But here we have a lot of nice stones and now some trichos. The cactis like it here and lets see what the winter brings. Weatherdata and statistic is fine but you never know. Cross the fingers. Will keep you updated.

    Rooting bridgesii

Hi and welcome to SAB. Yes you can root your brid now, no problem. I have rooted several cuttings last winter in germany. I just cut em in september, let them dry for four weeks and than put em in bonedry soil, no water is necessary in winter, because the plant doesent grow. Last winter I rooted several cuts they were decrafted. In spring i have put them in the ground. Usualy winter is not a good time for rooting but i gave it a try, and for me it was fine.

Id please on that bridgesii clone

You guys are great. I got it and understand, and thanks for clarifying this subject in detail. I love it and @change, yes sometimes there are offerings and I was unsure if the plants were labeled correct. A lot of uncertainty until now for me. Now I have a better understanding. I would love to find a database with clones and there history and it would be like having real ancestors in our garden if owning old clones/plants. Is there a source or database available anywhere you know guys?

Id please on that bridgesii clone

Thank you all for your answers. I am new to this and it brought more light into it. This plant was taken from an old motherplant at Kakteen Haage in germany. If you call a plant a clone when its taken from a known mother plant, what means a known plant? In my understanding a clone is taken just from a motherplant and is identical to it. Kakteen Haage did not have a name for the motherplant and I was searching for a closer ID and stepped over the clone a and b and c naming a I am confused with that A, b and c. I have some plants from the wild without a name, taken from another person and I would call it a clone, but unknown, what makes it known? Just give it a name? I have other clones, like “clone two“, motherplant collected in peru. Why is this a “real“ clone? Thank you for sharing your knowledge guys.

What did you do to your cacti today?

Yes the growth is different and after i have mine 3 month in the ground they react very positive with vigorous growth. I can leave them in the ground over winter. Do I get it right, you dig em out before winter? What are you doing then with em?

What did you do to your cacti today?

Hi Inyan, thanks for sharing your experience. Currently I sow them in germany and transplant them in the ground in catalunya, where the climate is different. It is new for us (cactus and me) because we have this new property only since january. We are very lucky and I am experimenting. I dont want to risk to.much. When (which age, which time of the year) do you transplant them in the ground?

Zelly's trich crosses, got pics? post here please

Seedlings 8 month old and in boxes. Different varieties from zellys seeds 2016. TPM x Scop is growing nicely on own roots. They will be planted in the ground in spring 2018. New seeds from zelly are waiting for germination. I will begin sowing them in september. Then the sun and the temps are just perfect for germination and in winter I will grow them under LED. What did you do to your cacti today?

Thanks Meangreen, I started to bring them down in february, step by step and have put them in different locations, so they have different conditions of light, soil. We all love it there and until now everything grows fine after the first phase of adaption. It is a big difference growing them in spain and in the ground. The sun is more sunny there.
