i know this is naughty, but.....

Certain accusatory cards are easy to play... the misogynist card, the anti-semitic card, the homophobe card. While it's important to defend against hatred I think those who play the accusatory cards are actually themselves haters and self haters. Word --- Old (Real) Meaning --- New (Fabricated) Meaning Misogynist --- someone who hates women --- a label placed on someone women want to hate. Antisemitic --- someone who hates Jews --- a label placed on someone Jews want to hate. Homophobe --- someone who hates homosexuals --- a label placed on someone gays hate. So hatred is close to home for the players of these cards.

Yes I realised it was a meeting (circuit party?) of men (daddy bears?)... and their parts, but just couldn't imagine a scene like that ever occuring! I can't imagine how or where you found that pic!? I remember a "joke" pic that went around a few years ago on a "blacklungs.com" website where there was some elderly men doing some unspeakable things. But this picture is just.... well I don't have any words for its enormity.

I guess people should then understand then perhaps why some people report no effects from poppy seeds and all the arguments that say that they do work are actually counterproductive and self defeating. Whether they work or not they're too much trouble and unreliable to ever become a big thing. Oh and they don't work....

That photo is a serious mind bender tepa. The mind boggles at the context... is it some secret Illuminati or Freemason meeting? Maybe it shows my naivete that I couldn't have imagined such a thing at all.

Hah... ahah... ha... Rather than showing my 'white boy privilege' it shows your enslavement to Western ideals of what good teeth look like. They have to be white and straight like in those magazines people read at cosmetic surgery clinics right? Wrong. Ironically the betel nut use which is the cause of this ladies' teeth staining is probably what has kept her teeth so good and intact. Many women her age in the same situation who don't use betel, would probably have lost all their teeth by their 40th birthday. What was this thread about again? *scratches head*

Some random thoughts about methods of ingestion.

Yeah. I think anyone who messes with opies and doesn't have a narcan in the house and car is taking an unnecessary risk. A room mate who used to mess with pods told me of several times she believes it saved her life. But it takes a fairly alert mind to do this as well as anticipation that some stronger effects were on their way. If you can't administer it and there's no one else to, you'd be stuffed. If you have a habit and have a supportive GP whom you can be totally honest with, then you might be able to get a narcan from them. But such doctors are few and far between, maybe even a myth.
  7. Hi all, I was thinking this afternoon about why certain modes of taking substances appeal or not, to my tastes. Along these lines I thought about the differences between eating vs. other methods for many substances. It's true that eating them may be less harmful and 'milder' but one thing that really gets me with this is the slow buildup of effects. I find that taking or eating something and then waiting up to 45 minutes before you know if you've hit the mark or not is frustrating; and sometimes allows one to get second thoughts about the wisdom of having taken it at that point, or whether they've had too much, too little. Panic and paranoia have a chance to take hold. That's why until now I've preferred quicker methods. At the very least you can't go back on your decision and you're well and truly into it right away. Not only that but you know very quickly whether it has worked or whether you've wasted your time with good or bad quality material as the case may be. On the downside is that the intensity of the experiences can be very high with the quick administration methods like smoking or injecting. What are your thoughts on this? Have you taken something and realised in the meantime that you should have done it another time? What have you done in that situation? I guess it reminds me of the shocking predicament one can be left in if they decide to gas themselves on car exhaust (carbon monoxide). The person having decided that they want to die, hooks the hose up and starts the engine. At some point the person may get to the stage where if they have second thoughts about it, they are powerless to go back on it since they become paralysed! A form of 'buyer's remorse' I guess. Has anyone experienced substance remorse?

Would you like me to get a friend to set you up with her? She's into the ethnobotanical scene (she loves Betel nut and tobacco) and would love to work in Australia http://www.loveofasianwomen.com/

    favourite authors and books

Last interesting book I read was "Life of Pi" Jan Martel which I think is a kind of whacko book. Philip K. Dick's books are also great. Mind Bender? -> Prime Obsession: Berhhard Riemann and the Greatest Unsolved Problem in Mathematics by John Derbyshire. Actually quite a readable book.

I think an objective person would have to give hardtimes some credit... s/he has put up a signature, and a (sort of) funny avatar with under 10 posts. GreenOsiris I'm not sure if it was intentional but I love the somewhat hidden things in your posts like little word jokes Things like whether anyone would take a punt or the quip about YOUR box but hey I might just be reading a little too freely. But hardtimes, with forums, I'm sure people would love to be wide open from the start, but it's common for entry at first to be a little painful. Nevertheless it's all about experience, and once you have a few beneath your belt all that information and more may become available. Now let's get to your question. I assume that since you are a girl you like making muffins, all my girlfriends like them, and poppyseed muffins are quite delicious. For the important ingredient head to the local supermarket - Coles sells the best variety in my opinion - Mello Yello

Big Day Out bans Aussie Flag

Agreed. That's why I specifically noted that there should be no EXTERNAL censorship or precautions, but as you note society and individuals must have internal/individual filtration and control. Personal responsibility and public censure must apply, not censorship or external controls.

Big Day Out bans Aussie Flag

No. I mean true free speech. The freedom to speak, say or express whatever it is your brain wants. I believe therefore in unbound freedom of speech. Free speech which has no external censorship or precautions. [Yes I know what you are alluding to. Free speech does not imply a freedom to lie, but I was trying to form an analogy of a mischeivous act to the burning of a flag which I believe is also unnecessary and mischeivous.]

Big Day Out bans Aussie Flag

I believe in free speech. Free speech allows me to say anything I want. I could swear and curse and cause mischeif by screaming out "Fire" in a movie theatre because I'm free to say whatever I want. Even though I could do this, because I'm free to do it, I don't do it. Why? Because I have a brain, because I have the ability to filter reality and do what brings credit, togetherness and love, and avoid what causes mischief, hatred and division. It's the same with the flag, I could burn it, but I wouldn't even if I don't agree with it. Why? Because it achieves no purpose ultimately. Even the act of burning it, gives it credence. Insulting what is dear to others will just bring like in return. Nationalism of any flavour is ultimately divisive. There's no room for pride. Pride is having satisfaction in, or having a high opinion of one's own achievements. Don't be proud, just achieve. Let other people be satisfied in them, and have a high opinion of them. Let others marvel at it. Pride is like vanity. Pride is poison.

The end of the american empire

I can understand why metres and millimetres are the preferred units. Most named factors of 10 in relation to units are separated by 3 log units. So we have kilo, mega, giga etc. representing 10^3, 10^6, and 10^9. Similarly on the other side there are milli, micro, and nano meaning 10^-3, 10^-6, and 10^-9 respectively. So centi, and deci are just in between terms used by lay people. Scientists and engineers prefer the units separated by 3 log units, ie the main named ones. I hate centimetres and wouldn't even dream of using 'deci'. There's the potential for confusion with 'deca' which is 10^1.

    Happy High Hypocrites

Here are some of the acronyms that come up on a search on WOD... ****** World of Darkness ****** War on Drugs ****** World of Disney (retail store) ****** Washington and Old Dominion Railroad (also abbreviated as W&OD) ****** Warnier-Orr Diagram ***** Warriors of Destiny (online game) ***** Weapons of Destruction (Quake2 Mod) **** word-of-day (US DoD) **** Wind Over Deck **** Wet or Dry *** Warrant Officer Disciplinary *** Waiting on Decision * Wife of Diabetic It might even be a new secret government campaign which has demanded a reduction in smegma loads in the population and has a new campaign called WOD - "Wash our Dicks". And in my tangential way and completely off topic... this reminds me of a joke in which little Johnny is caught by his mother in the shower masturbating. He looks surprised and says to his mum... "It's my dick and I can wash it as fast as I want to."

    Happy High Hypocrites

I must say that I am also a 'loner' in that I have no attachments to other ethobotanically minded people in my immediate circle or even the one encircling those people. Even if there was I don't think I'd want them knowing so much about my interests anyhow. None of my immediate friends or acquaintances know anything about my personal shamanism and quest to know more through the use of plants and chemicals. I also cannot understand what is alluded to by the threats to the freedoms we have at the moment. I must say that I have benefited greatly from being involved in the community here. It's my only connection to other similarly minded people. I've bought nothing directly from stores etc. that sell ethnobotanicals and have never been in a HHH shop. Instead of seeing HHH as being on the cutting edge and bringing the possibility of enlightenment to the masses, I see commercial sales of these preparations (note that I don't mean living plants from which such preparations are made) as being counterproductive and likely to bring more heat on freedoms we have at the moment. I am of the mind that one mostly just grows what one needs for themselves, trades the excess with others for things they have grown or obtained, or give away whatever excess they have. I know it's a philosophical position, but I hate the bastardisation brought by cheap thrills, happy highs, or commercialisation. Just my views.

I've seen the first bit of growth on one container of my BRF mix. It's definitely too wet. It has an area of fluffy mycelium with areas above that are saturated and look very wet. I'm guessing that this is not going to be a success and should probably abort it so I don't waste any more time on it but a part of me says just wait and see. What does everyone else think? Wet looking BRF... wait or ditch?

Yeah I can't imagine there'd be any great advantages to these jars over what you've illustrated with whiskey glasses and double wrap of foil. I still have no growth in my containers. I think I probably have too wet a mix. I'm going to give the BRF mix a try again later but I think I'll probably go back to using birdseed which I had some sort of success with

Nice answers Klue / Ace. I'm just glad I have a nice isolate now on agar waiting for future attempts. I'm going to try with Finch seed again this weekend in proper Mason tapered jars I got. I'm doing everything backwards Going from full improvisation to the tried and true ones Anyhow after 48 hours there's still no signs of colonisation at all. That's with mycelium syringe injection so it should theoretically happen quicker than the 5-10 days it would take spores to germinate. Will have to wait and see now whether the substrate works at all, or whether the syringe with mycelium even worked - its all too much of a mystery. I've decided to just let the agar plate fully colonise and cut it up and chuck it into PC cooked Finch seed in proper jars. I'll let you know if anything changes, but I'm really looking forward to continuing to see your excellent planned grow

Random Body/Bag Searches At Australian Open

The Croatian vs Serbian (alphabetic order chosen because believe me that even the order that's placed in can get emotions up) can seem like textbook case of bad nationalism and how nationalism creates deep divisions. But I think the Serb-Croat divide is really a manifestation of RELIGIOUS division. Serbians are Orthodox Christians and Croatians are Catholic Christians. They are actually from the same heritage in Slavs, speak an almost identical language that was at one time even unified under the banner of Serbo-Croatian, have the same colour skin etc. But their religions divide them deeply, and a whole host of other stuff has tacked itself onto the divide in the meantime. A better example of how religious division trumps any national divisions is the situation of Ireland and its division into Catholic and Protestant camps. Again a people who are from the same race, region, and language and yet the religious views cut deeper than the nationalistic ones. That's why I've always believed religion is the ultimate divider of beings, followed by nationalism, then political views, and perhaps sporting affiliations might come after those ;)

I tried the PF Brown Rice Flour and Vermiculite technique last night and must say the preparation of the substrate was actually very problematic in terms of volumes. I used 500 mL containers. Measures out 3/4 full container three times for each of the 3 - ie. 375 mL x 3 = 1125 mL of Brunnings vermiculite. Then I soaked this with about 400 mL of water and strained off. Then I added the brown rice flour in bits just coating the surface of the top of the vermiculite and folding it in and repeating. After several spoon fulls the mixture was taking the consistency of dough! Some areas were beginning to get together like a bread almost. So i just kept mixing till it was sticky but still coming apart fairly easily. I think I must have added about 250-300 mL of BRF and any more would have turned it into a bread Spooning this stuff out had a bit of a sticky feel to it. I fear that I might have used too much water or too much BRF but it all spooned out nicely into the containers and there's plenty of air space. After sterilising in the microwave there was quite a bit of moisture on walls of the containers but I didn't worry so much about this. The leftover material was put into a shouldered jar with tyvek filter and drilled lid ala proper PF style (except no tapered jar). I am planning to case that particular jar by breaking up the contents in the jar and pouring out.

    .

If the big black area above is what you mean, I must admit I thought that aswell but reserved comment since the photos were a bit blurry and so were my eyes when I saw them. With a clearer pic even the bottom of the jars has a slight green appearance? It's probably contaminated.
