It is not such a long shot, but maybe you could just chop up pieces of mushroom and use those for inoculating stumps etc.

From my limited impression of King Stropharia I have deduced that it tends to be a bit finical. Slow or stalled growth appears to be attributable to it being on the wrong substrate. Find the right substrate and it grows well.

[Agaricus xanthodermus]

Yeah, I can see in those photos that the xanthodermus have a square appearance. I went off and checked what differences exist between it and campestris after I made the above post. The cap on the campestris go a reddish brown immediately when you scrape the top to remove a bit of dirt etc. I know the campestris because it is from a patch that we have picked from for many years.

How do you test if they are xanthodermus? Do you rub them to see if they turn yellow?

 

I found a patch of nice big campestris on the farm a couple of days ago. The campestris were good eating, and I took a culture as well.

No worries. They sell it in the Central Market hear in Adelaide when the weather warms up a bit. So it would have been easy to get in a few weeks time.

The law on trespass varies from state to state. I imagine it is theft in all cases if you are removing mushrooms from someone's property without permission.

Has anyone got a viable culture of Hericium erinaceus (lions mane) in Australia ?

Or if it's possible to get a print from something like that, maybe a US based member could help ?

A new member here - ED is after it for its medicinal properties.

I actually started 5 agar cultures of Lion's Mane on the 21st at almost the same time or slightly before you posted looking for Lion's Mane. I am hoping to swap for some Agrocybe aegerita.
