Greetings all, hoping someone can give me some input on this one. I've only really grown t. pachanoi and t. peruvians before and never had any issues with these. I've pretty much just plonked bits into whatever soil and they grew. Recently i decided to get a t. pachanoi cristate and a t. bridgesii monstrose to add some variety. I did a little research online for a 'cactus mix' soil recipe. What I came up with:
1 part premium potting mix
1 part perlite
1 part coir
1 part gravel
I also lined the bottom of the pot (~40mm) with pebbles in a bid to improve drainage. I've since read this may not be a good idea.
Now this was a little bit modified from what i had read, but i figured it was close enough. The issue I'm having is that my cristate and t. bridgesii are not looking as healthy as when i received them a few weeks back. They have lost their deep green colour and are going a pale green. See attached pictures. I've also notices some 'scabs' forming on the side of my bridgesii.
Now, I have a few ideas which might be causing the issue:
1. Too much sun - these guys were getting probably 2 hours in the middle of the day. I'm in NW NSW, so bloody hot
2. The gravel was contaminated - I found this gravel on the side of the road. I washed it till clean. Maybe it had some oil on it, but i doubt it - i used a similar mix on a bougainvillea and it is thriving
3. Pebbles in the bottom - not holding enough water?
4. Coir is in big chunks - I'm not 100% its coco coir as it didn't say coconut on the brick, but couldn't think of what else it might be. The big chunks are about 25mm square. I thought this could be holding too much moisture or perhaps is breaking down and releasing some compounds the cacti don't like.
5. I live in a town where all the tap water is bore water - it is generally hard, with an EC ~700us.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Apologies if this is something that has been covered many times.

Hey fellas, just want to clarify something. Im thinking of growing some gourmet edibles from a print. My biggest concern is that the print is not sterile. My thoughts were that the best way to go would be to make up a heap of sterile petris with agar and simply wipe some spores off the print and onto the agar using a sterile needle or something. If i did this with say 10-20 petris i was assuming that many would get contaminated, but hopefully i would get lucky and have one that did not, and could then use that one to start a new series of sterile cultures. Does this sound feasible, or is there an easier method when working from a non sterile print?

Hey all, im after some cube spores. I dont have a great deal to trade, but hopefully some caring individual out there would be able to help me out. I have:
-poppy seed, not many, apparently some kind of hybrid called miners ghost, supposedly has great pods
- khat seed, another hybrid, from planthelper. Is a bit old so dont know how viable it is
- morning glory, collected from around wollongong, confirmed active
- sub prints

Well of course they arent going to be as good as the 'real' thing. Real hash and opium are illegal, these i think are supposed to be as close as a legal alternative as you can get. The hash does give effects. I found the opium a little hard to smoke as it turned into oil very easily, but you could get around this by spotting i suspect. Both smell wonderful!

Well i dont reckon it was excess sugar i added, i got one of those measuring spoon dealies and none of the other bottles popped like that.
I reckon natural fermentable sugars sounds plausable. Im sure i could convince people it was

Well i just thought i had better share a little experience i just had so others can avoid the same fate as me. Occasionally i make a batch of home brew ginger beer(alcoholic of course). Now im a bit of an experimenter so i like to add a little bit of this and that to a couple of bottles when i do a batch. For example if i do a 30 bottle batch, i might make 3 or 4 with extras. I might throw in a piece of cinnamon, lotus flowers, whatever etc. Well about 3 months ago when i did the last batch i decieded i would see what a bit of ganja would go like. I Crushed up one small(~300mg?) bud and chucked it in a bottle while filling.
Anyhow, feeling thursty i put a warm bottle in the freezer for about 30min(i find this is about how long it takes to be perfictly cold for a normal brew). After the elapsed time i removed the bottle and proceeded to take the cap off(crown seal). This is where things went pear shaped. The moment i cracked the seal the lid shot off and a stream of liquid shot up to the roof! Sticky liquid rained down covering the entire kitchen and part of the dining room. I tried to plug the hole with my thumb but this caused spray in every direction! All this excitement only lasted a second but that was long enough to empty 3/4 of the bottle and leave my place with a sticky floor reminiscent of a nightclub.
Moral of the story: experiments can be dangerous, and extreemly messy

Bloody track work on the illawarra line. No trains tomorrow to sydney. Guess i could ride, but i'd be lost in 2 seconds. Not to mention i cant have a beer or five if i want. Have fun fellas, i'll meet ya all one day.

Never tried a tea, although i thought it would be a waste as the heat breaks down all the goodness from what i've read. Although some people i know swear by it. My cousins dogs next door neighbour reckons that mulling em up fine after drying and sprinkling ontop of an already cooked pizza and chomping down is the go.

Heya folks, been meaning to come to one of these for some time now. As i've drifted back into ethno land once more i thought i might come put some names to faces. Although i will say im only a maybe, i might chicken out at the last minute cause i have a phobia of meeting new ppl, especially online ones. It is kind of exciting though(for me anyway). Will have to see if i have anything to trade! So is it cool if i come?

Hot damn! You fellas really got it worked out hey? Im happy if i pass everything! Being in my second yr though my attitude has changed a little, in first year i didnt really care if i failed a subject or two. Im trying to get alot more motivated this session. Only been doing 3 subjects per session, yeah call me lazy if you must. Tryin 4 this time, with two being very physics related(my most despised subject). Was stoked when i got a credit for orgainic chem. Majorly pissed about just getting a pass for a materials subject as was sitting on over 80% all yr, bloody final exam...

Hey all here's somethin for ya, found this big ass shroom today.
Cap measures 8cm across. Thats pretty big for a sub isnt it? Also whats the go with ones that have been munched by grubs? They'd still be good right? I mean, the grub has obviously had its fill and i probably off in another dimension now. They dont excreet any toxins after burrowing throught the fungi do they?
Here's some others, check that fat stem on the little sucker at the front.
Most of these were past their best, there were heaps more that had completly dried into black sticks. Needed to get their a bit earlier. Thank the lord i have a garbage disposal, i mean if i hadnt destroyed these things after i realised what they were, someone might have eaten them!

Oh yes now that i have 're-tuned' my eyes to these little devils, i am going to make it my number one priority to eradicate this foul scourge from the land.

Alrighty then, here's a few pics of todays find. Totally unexpected, and in a spot where i actually looked a couple of days ago. It even appeared that i may have seen them earlier, but just not clicked
Anyway, these were found in quite a public place so couldnt get any shots in their environment. Had to make several stealth runs at the little patches. No officer im not doing anything sus!
These were found in garden beds in wood chip derbis. Under eucalypt and pine trees.
The small but welcome find.
Above: The little fellas were rinsed to get rid of dirt etc and placed on paper towel to dry out. Notice the blue stain on the paper towel!
This was a really blue specimen. Has dried considerably due to having a fan blowing on them.
A younger one, these seemed to bruise faster on the edges of the cap a lot quicker than the stem.
Finally a nice little group photo of a few nice ones. After i had taken prints to study, all of these specimens were promptly destroyed to ensure that no one would be harmed by their extreemly dangerous toxins.

Greetings everyone, i thought i'd share an account of my little journey into the bush the other day. After having a little bit of rain last week, and seeing all sorts of little brown mushrooms(no target species) around the gardens at uni i decided it might be worth a look in the bush for some interesting fungi.
This was my first solo hunt, ie not under the careful eye of an experienced guide. I had done much research, reading many safe pick guides and posts by learnered members of this forum. I picked up a book called 'Field guide to Australian fungi' also.
Anyhow my fellow novice hunter and i set out on a journey into some beautiful pine forest locations around Moss Vale. As im not a local of the coast area i tired to get as much info on where state forrests were near my home base, the gong. NSW state forrests had a wonderful brochure online about various activities and such in the forrests in the area, but it was the picture of the fly agaric that convinced me that some thing might be found.
First spot or three turned up few promising examples. Not much at all. Then we came upon a spot where i could see mushrooms from the car. Walking into the trees we were greeted by hundreds of mushrooms! Unfortunately they were not what we were looking for, but i have never seen so many in one place ever, there were HEAPS. Most were whiteish grey, and looked like some of the poisonous amanita types i was in the fungi guide. Here is one below
Another one of the very common type in this area was this fella? Brown cap, yellowish gills, notably differnet to the other white-grey type in the previous pic.
It was obvious that this was a well known patch. There was a fair bit of litter like empty coke bottles and such around the place if you looked. Not to mention all the upturned mushies when we got there. After some more time my partner cried out in excitement! Hooray, a fly was found! About 60mm diameter and bright orange. He looked around close by, i noticed something just under the pine needles. Yep a nice fat fly, just hiding out of sight. Haha those guys who beat us here missed that one!

We looked around the area a bit more, and found one large example that had obviously been knocked over and broken by something. There was lots of evidence that there had been big harvesting going on, lots of upturned pine needles in places with visible mycelium underneeth. Only found one more fly, but a nice looking one.
Anyhow, i was after subs, but a fly is good too. My memory is a little hazy of my single guided shroom expidition(thanks to my guide, you know who you are
) so trying to recall the environment subs were in was a little hard. Found heaps of these little fellas, which to me looked quite similar to subs. My hunting buddy was almost convinced. However, they lacked the all important blue staining effect, and the gills looked too light in colour to me. I collected some anyway to get prints. Brown 
Now i was thinking Galerina, but i think i read that the gills never ascended toward the stem and an anualr ring was usually present. These had ascending gills and no ring. Any ideas?
Anyway hope that is interesting for someone, and if we get an id on the other unknowns then maybe it will help too, cheers!

Hey all any more ideas on the bad reaction i had with the berries? Its been over two weeks without them and my elbow had pretty much cleared up completly. The seeds have the bad stuff in them? How do you get them out then, they r so small! Merry christmas all!
