    Trichocereus CC Hybrid 3907

Yup, I'm most interested in growing Echinopsis hybrid, especially if they're named hybrids from Schick or Paramount. I love their flowers, and visitors are amazed I don't seem to have a picture of the Princess Anne plant itself, however it is very similar to most other echinopsis hybrids. If you're looking at my pic and seeing a column, that's actually from a seedling growing in a neighbouring pot, not the plant that's flowering. As for crossing them, I don't have room to grow any more seedlings! If fruit form I'll keep some seeds (there were a few clumping trichs flowering at the same time) but otherwise I'm leaving them to their own designs this year. Maybe if I finally get my own house next year I'll do my own hybridising

No cuts of this one yet, it's not the healthiest plant in the world unfortunately :/ I do have lots of flowering size Schick Princess Anne to trade however, parent plant seen here last spring:

    Trichocereus CC Hybrid 3907

Hi EG, in this case CC is Corromandel Cacti - NZ's biggest commercial cactus nursery I wouldn't be surprised if it's crossed with Candicans, as they also sell that.
  5. Pulled a couple of weeds, fertilized most of them. Took some photos of the echinopsis flowers

    Pachanoi not rooting....

Yep, as above stop checking for roots! I put my cuttings with all my other plants, making no allowance for shade or sun, they get what all the other cacti get. I hold off watering for a couple of weeks, then they're straight into the same schedule as all the others.

    Growing up

Tarijensis you say.... hmm... I wonder if that's what this one is... (ignore the label on the photo, I've been told by the vendor it's incorrect and he doesn't know what it is). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/evobit/Plants/_MG_9842.jpg

    Growing up

Hey guys, where did the AWESOME massively long photos in this thread come from? I'd like to get them printed out (i'd need a bigger version of the last one), but need permission first. Cheers
  9. Awesome mutant! BTW this guy is a mammillaria gracilis fragilis - grows damn fast on it's own roots so you might want to try it by itself to compare.
  10. I've taken to using polystyrene for propping up new plants . Take 3-4 pieces and wedge horizontally between the plant and the side of the pot. Not the prettiest solution, but gives me a use for old packaging, and guaranteed no damage to the plant.

    NZ Trichocereus Clones

All good, I should be able to get the stump if Martin remembers to call me. I've reminded him enough times lol. It's definitely not pure bridgesii, but it's still an nice looker, and with a bit of luck (and maybe some bap) maybe I can get a 9-point plant growing from the stump

    NZ Trichocereus Clones

Looks like corro's big "bridgesii" is headed down country in pieces, which is a shame. I wasn't allowed to bid any higher on it Is trademe user 'warmapplepie' on this forum?

    New Trichocereus

Yeah, that's the one. Still no idea where the seed came from, however, a logical assumption would be a SS or another big online retailer as he had a lot of seeds, and a decent variety that I don't think anyone in NZ offers.

    New Trichocereus

looks like a macrogonus to me, based on seed labelled as macro which I've grown.

    NZ Trichocereus Clones

lol, what is the pixelated bit hiding? hehe I don't have anything to contribute, except to say beautiful plants guys :D Will post some pics of mine after they get going. First spring fert this weekend! *edit.. ok.. one pic - this plant is pretty similar to the one Amylase posted above - looks pretty different now 2 years on, but same features

    id crest

Can't get those links to work Moses? Awesome crest tipz - if you are interested in sending a cutting to NZ I'd love to trade you something!
  18. I would have guessed Trigona too, but yeah, euphrobs... be careful of the white sap, it will blind you if you get it in the eye!
  19. Pretty standard pachanoi in my opinion. Pachanoi often grow the very long spines on very old growth (ie 5+ years old), especially when in the ground.

    Cuzcoensis or Peruv?

Somebody pass me a grusonii, I believe it's time I ate one

    Miniatures Garden

So I have recently acquired a couple of interesting "stone" cacti, so I thought I'd try my hand at something a bit different. Hopefully these will stay in this garden for a 3 years minimum, and don't mind sharing light/watering conditions. I chose these plants to put together due to their growth rates and similarities - I am trying to avoid one of those stupid store/layman arranged gardens with a tricho in one corner and a tiny grusonii in the other or something. These are all fairly rare/collectable plants in NZ, and I have San P to thank for the Turb's, and a bit of luck with the Asterias. I'm also quite fond of the dish - it's nice and uneven when you look closely. I have some schist stone ordered to use as topping decoration - not sure how this will look but if that fails some grey gravel will suffice until I find something better. Obviously I have a bit of work to do to tidy them up (small paintbrush will help). Will update when the topping decoration arrives Turbinicarpus polaskii Turbinicarpus polaskii Turbinicarpus ysabelae Astropytum asterias Super Kabuto

    Cuzcoensis or Peruv?

I still don't think it's cuzco I will concede that we need better pictures. and OP needs to water it a bit more. Pup doesn't look anything like a healthy cuzco pup imo.

Nice EG :D Indeed I didn't think such a cross was possible?

    Miniatures Garden

Thanks all. I haven't added any extra drainage to the planter - it has two reasonable sized holes underneath. I considered a layer of stones to aid drainage, but decided the nutrients (and depth given these are tap rooters) with having the extra soil outweighed the benefit of the drainage. The mix is good though, plenty of pumice (coro cacti mix). I intend to hold back on all water while the night temps are below 10 deg C. After this I will water as I do my other plants - regularly, making sure the soil has dried out between waterings.

    Cuzcoensis or Peruv?

I think you're right. It is a Stetsonia Coryne. If you google you will find young stetsonia growth that looks like this one. I am now 100% positive it is not a Trich. Find me a tricho with a long double central like this has, and I'll happily eat a grusonii. Michael - your thoughts?
