    Pelecyphora Aselliformis?...Peyotillo...

Hold up hold up. So you guys are saying this Rainbow hedgehog cactus has been found to contain alkaloids such as mecaline? I was previously unaware of this as i own the species and love it very much and im always interested to know which species in what families have been found to contain different alkaloids. its important to document and make it common knowledge among collectors. Its just another part of the plant after all and an important one to it for self defense. Every time the "M" word comes up it should not trigger censorship right off unless its talking about potency or what have you that is in the rules. But When i first came here i mentioned how specific soil additives were important to several species of cacti for proper alkaloid production. I never even mentioned mescaline and i was warned about my post.

What did you do to your cacti today?

So hell. I guess that means i had it right. i suppose it could also be called to Bolivian saguaro if it does come from the country in some places. Good to know. i figured it had a nice range of areas where cacti clusters live. there is so much of south america we know nothing about its really guessing about a lot of information in the end. Going by what we know

    Lumberjack origins?

Can anyone point me in the direction of information on the LJ origins or really anywhere good to start on hybrids or clones of trichocereus who have "official" names and such. I have found little and less information in my searches of the web and here. The form is just so full of topics and posts i cant find any of the results i need. I have an SS02 cutting which i was told is a bridgesii x Pachanoi. so thats a good place to start too.

    Lumberjack origins?

This is true of all cacti seeds, mostly Ariocarpus and Trichocereus where there are so many god damn hybrids and unofficial sub species that you never know what you are getting seed wise, LJ or not. with seeds it is always a risk, It takes years to find out if what you have is anything close to what you ordered. Stuff labeled as T. Peruvianus gets to me because we know its got other genetics mixed in. Even wild harvested seeds or cuttings have some hybridization in their genetics somewhere back in time. There needs to be a lot better control and documentation of cross breeding. Pictures of both parent plants should be mandatory IMO to help reduce confusion and mislabeling. This is the game we play collecting cacti. we gamble and win sometimes and we break the bank sometimes. I just really hate seeing PC pachanot on ebay and online being sold as LJ when it is clearly not. sell whatever you want but false names only hurts collectors down the road and makes it worse for everyone

What did you do to your cacti today?

I actually may have misspoken. I said bolivian but i was probably meaning Argentine. However i think TT's grow mostly in the desert areas unlike most trichocereus. I have never seen a range of where it has been found growing either. Speaking of: tell me this. Are there Bridgesii in Peru and Peruvianus in bolivia? I was sure there was natural or man made. At one time they had to have been closer together as all trichocereus share a common evolution. How do we know when species X ends and species Bridgesii starts on the evolution time line. HOw many natural hybrids were made that became hybrids with others and even more cacti around. we know so little about where trichocereus came from, i know less than most of you for sure, but at one point the species were all closer together in both evolution and where they grew. Its not like Bridgesii randomly sprouted in bolivia and torches randomly came from Peru they both got there threw evolution, time, and spreading out.

Foot long section, and the soil is at least 80 in the daytime, just a slow rooter

What are the signs of over-fertilizing Cacti?

i wish that were true. But it is not. Quote from Wiki on one of the other substances in superthrive here is one. It also has humic acid in it which has been used for plants for longer than time itself. it also has Phosphorous acid in it, which seems to be some kind of anti microbial agent. and for rooting it has hormones yea but its not just a rooting hormone mix.

    Lumberjack origins?

Considering Incontinence lighting only provides red light up to like 3000k or so it would not grow anything at all but in fact further etiolate the cactus. Blue light is what is needed for vegetative growth, red light is more on the flowering side. Of course, correct me if im wrong here.

What did you do to your cacti today?

I dont know. i have a PC san pedro and a more "regular" san pedro and both have been in soil for months with no roots. The PC pedro is 5 months old and no roots, the more regular pedro is 2 months into rooting and both have no roots yet. This is the PC pachanoi, it threw a pup a few weeks back, the pup is at the tp of the cactus and just threw a root...... However, i would say in more cacti rooting happens from 2 weeks-2 months. pereskiopsis will root in a week sometimes. Though that SS02 cutting i have took 3 months to root.

Terscheckii is the slowest growing species of trichocereus if i remember right. It is also nick named the bolivian saguaro. i have two at the moment, one 4 inches tall and the other is like 1 inch maybe. the four inch tall one i have had for 2 years haha and its only grown an inch.

no shit? im almost full blooded Irish though i live in america. Celtic Shamanism holds a personal interest to me as well as most of the other pagan religions of Ireland. It is thought that Lucifer got his name from the Celtic god Lu/Lugh when the romans invaded Ireland and forced Roman Catholicism on everyone. They made their pagan gods out to be the devil especially Lugh so eventually his name was put into the bible and changed some. A lot of the Irish Catholic Saints are Pagan gods as well. its very interesting,

    Lumberjack origins?

And you are clearly a troll going around the forum trying to start things with myself and others. This site is not here for you to speculate on peoples intentions of ripping off, nor should it be for insulting people like you did to me. Did not realize you were a specialist in Cacti IDs, glad you can tell the hundreds if not thousands of cultivars and hybrids out there.

What did you do to your cacti today?

Oh no no no, we dont get to call out people without reason for BS and not back up what you claim. First off Lime stone and this stuff from Napa are both made of the exoskeletons of sea dwelling creatures which have lots of calcium in them. Hence why i said they are "a lot like lime stone but not so alkaline" and i also compared it closer to perlite and a couple others so piss off. Second of all, I have been growing psychedelic cacti for a little over a year, but i have been gardening for my whole life. And i have apparently forgotten more in that year than you ever knew. I came to this forum "arrogant" because i have already been on one forum for a while posting and i think i got the hang of it, no need to do the same thing twice when i know much more now than i did back when i joined the other forum(which i am still a proud member of). ontop of that i have my own blog with close to 2000 followers now from around the world. many of which are cacti collectors and growers of whom i have talked to quite a bit. Not only did i learn from them but i have been studying under a Shaman elder for over a year now as well. I am by no means a shaman but i am an acolyte. I dont know everything, or close to it, but i know enough to say what i say and do what i do because i have first hand experience or know several orthers with it Third is that Yea sure Aztekium seeds can be grown on peat based soil, or just about anything. However there are methods and Techs which help improve survival rates, germination rates, and prevent molds and fungi. I dont know where your coming from with all this bullshit but come now please teach me a lesion. Show me my misinformation, quote me, i wont stand for these insults and no member should. I will see you in court. Oh and another thing, yes all peruvian torches are hybrids no matter where they come from. You see in the wild there are these funny little creatures called bats, in south america they pollinate most of the cacti there especially trichocereus cacti. They along with a few moths are what work the flowers, now how do you think cacti like this evolved? a peruvian torch might be pollinated and then the bat heads over to a bridgesii and boom you have a natural cross. Then those seeds drop close to the original pollinated plant and once the plants from it grow large enough this hybrid is crossed with the other cacti around by bats. And this is just talking about one time with one bat that did this when in reality it is happening all the time. However long it took for the trichocereus genus to come along this has been going on, more than 50,000 years i would think. So you think how many thousands of times that has happened and tell me that there are such things as "PURE" peruvian torches. Check your privileged sir

    Aztekium

Forgo the cinnamon, It works for lots of things but every time i try it i still get infections and mold. I highly suggest wetting the finished soil mix with no cinnamon and allowing it to sit in the dark for a week to allow any spores in it to activate. then after a week microwave the soil in 5 minute spurts for 25-45 minutes or until soil is fully dry. Use microwave safe dish as this shit gets HOT. This method gets rid of the worst enemy: dormant spores. The cannot be killed by heat or cold or chemicals easily other than pressure cooking, but by wetting the soil and bringing the spores out of dormancy they can be killed via microwave without cinnamon. I have always had lower germination rates with any seed from any plant when cinnamon is used. And i agree about winter, i started my seeds in august for 6 ariocarpus species and a few tricocereus. they are all indoors in southern facing windows under two 6500k blue fluorescent lights putting out 5800 lumens. so with the lights and windows it really speeds things up

Ahh the "real" peruvianus. It exists but they are all hybrids by nature anyway. There are some really good ones around, you can look at them and tell they are at least not cuzco. As for the Polaskia genus, i have 2 of the species P. Chichipe I have never heard of this stuff but i live in the USA near a NAPA store so i think i will research and then buy this stuff if i like it. Thanks! After a quick look into what it is, it is pretty much a lot like lime stone but not so alkaline i think. It is made up of a layer of dead algae found in the earth and can be used horticulturally for anything perlite, vermiculite or any of these others are used for

What did you do to your cacti today?

today i transplanted two of my cactus species i have seedlings of into new soil and better containers. The first here are my 9 month old Koehres Peruvian torch seedlings. there are 16 of 40 seeds planted, not bad sprouting and i just planted the remaining seeds to sprout, like 20 or so. And my Ariocarpus Retusus subssp Trigonus seedlings got moved into new soil but the same container and also planted with the rest of its sister seeds. 9 or 15 seeds came up the first time and one is a twin, one is grafted and one or two died maybe? these are 10 months old And A triple flowering on my aztekium ritteri

    Aztekium

If you want a different mix this worked for me: 40% top soil with the wood sifted out or a brand that has no wood in it. if you want you can use some kind of manure as part of the 40% if you like, 30% course sand like what is used for construction, not fine beach sand, 10-15% lime stone, 10% coconut coir, and 10% perlite. Plant seeds and lightly cover with course sand as the top dressing but no mover than 1/8 inch because the seeds dont really pop through the soil easily. watering is hard, i personally use a syringle to drip water around the seeds as to not disturb them. Also germination can take 6 months or more so dont throw ou trays and keep the light and heat on. Aztekium can be hard to see for 6 months up to a year. sometimes they dont fully shed the seed shell and thats why you cant see them. i got 35% germination and survival with this method and thats with Koehers shitty seeds.
  18. BillyThKid

    Aztekium

Depends. what kind of germination rates did you get with your previous method? I have grown them from seed. They need very special mixes for them to do really well. Limestone IME is a must when growing aztekium.

    Looking to Broaden Collection

Would you rather have some live cuttings. What i have is either delosperma cooperi or delosperma lydenbergense both of which are reported to be quite magical plants. i would have seed from them soon but im not sure how long they take to go from flower to seed.
  20. Hello all, i know this is a forum from another country but i know there are american, and other people here from countries who CAN trade with me, so here is some of the seeds i have to offer. I hope some of them interest you. i also will be offering up some cacti and succulents. not for sale, trade only. Because i have a lot of some of the seeds I can offer trades on just the plants you would like and im more than happy to trade with more than one person. Just know that the Peruvian torch, san pedro, and ariocarpus seeds are few in number and i only have one or two trades worth of seed. PM me or ask in here for added detail. i have 500 Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds of the highest quality. they are hawaiian strain. Calea zacatechichi/ternifolia(aka dream herb) seed Valeriana officinalis (aka Valerian) seed Basil seed Ariocarpus Retusus V. Trigonus seed trichocereus peruvanus seed san pedro seed Aztekium Ritteri seed Astrophytum asterias seed Parsley seeds Pink ruffled poppies and i have thousands and thousands of these, not to be confused with the oriental "ruffled poppy". two watermelon cultivars one with leucistic fruits though its only a first generation mutation i have no idea if it was passed onto the seeds. i have like 10 of the possible mutants and 50 or more of the normal melons. West virginia naturalized Dill seeds(grown there 40 years in the wild, reaches up to 6 feet or more) dutch poppy seeds blue flax seeds lemony catnip seeds Nepeta cataria var. citriodor summer savory seeds money plant seeds lunaria annua seeds of a random Aquilegia species aka combines. buck wheat . LIVE PLANTS Delosperma cooperi rooted cuttings shipped in soil the mother plants I offer these species independently or together in a starter clump the leafy one on the left is Sedum Spurium, the blue sedum and the yellow sedum are both types of Sedum Reflexum, and the one sedum on the bottom i do not know what it is. This is suppose to be Pereskiopsis Spatulala but i think its a different species of Pereskiopsis. reason being these areoles are much more hairy and the spines much longer, produces an inch long red spine on the old growth. I MIGHT offer this peruvian torch cutting in a trade if it is a good trade. This one has had its spines trimmed back for shipping purposes. It is producing pups now and i have been rooting it for a month, no roots yet but there would be by the time it got to you. The developing pup as of today I have more cacti and seeds, just PM me with any questions or trade offers.

    Cactus Cuts 4 Sale

I hate to break it to you but that is NOT delosperma Cooperi. Delosperma cooperi 'leaves' look like tubular rosemary leaves. Like these pictures. Where as yours are short and stubby. I would really like to see a picture of its flower so i can properly ID its exact species.

    American trade, seeds, cacti, genetics.

Bump. Really guys no takers on this?

    Ariocarpus appreciation thread.

Holy hell, that is really good for any cactus species. Even with my most tedious method of sprouting cacti seeds i only get 70% germination. so to get all of them is unheard of. Seeing some really nice pictures in here, So here is one i found online for sale. it was priced at $1400 and it is amazing and i think still for sale.

Areol grafts pups emerging from the stock

I remember seeing some of these pics a while back on IG. Good to find you on the forum again haha. What i think happened was something like Micro propagation: some of the cells or vascular tissue of the scion managed to fuse and feed off the root stock and grow until it eventually blew up. The scion just got lucky enough to infect the root stock i would think. Either way it is clear that these pups are from the scion and not the root stocks at least.
  25. So my aztekium started to develop flowers yesterday, well i assume before then but i could not see it until yesterday. First picture shows the faint pink color of 3 flower buds early yesterday morning. Today when i got up and looked at them i was supervised to see how close to opening they were and how small they are. Almost open now. Triplet Aztekium ritteri flowers, really cool to see. and this is one of them fully open i think. at least they have not moved in the past hour, funny how small the flowers look. if it was only one, or maybe two flowers they would be able to spread out and open fully. but the three of them back to back crowded in there and bloomed at the same time. Several of the pups on this cactus are producing flower pods as well. I have collected pollen from the first three flowers and hand pollinated them with a tiny tiny tiny paint brush used for fine details. If it keeps on flowering i will continue to post updates but just enjoy the cactus porn for now.
