    Technically referred to as 'spawning'.

    Another sydney canning jar query....

There is a good tek on how to make the filter lids for your grain jars on this page here

    simmering rye grain

You could try this method as well - Get a pot of water on the boil. Turn off the heat, and then after it has cooled for about 5-10 mins dump in your grain. Stir, cover and let sit for minimum of 2 hours - overnight works well. Also, to know how much dry grain to use - I find if I want to fill 8 jars, I use 5 jars worth of dry grain. Rinse and strain thoroughly before loading into your jars. I find its absolutely perfect every time.

    perth mushies

I think he may have been referring to that fact it was bizarre that Perth would be having hail the same time as NZ, since they are so far apart (and such different climate zones).

Its good though, been a lovely winter - I'll never complain about too much rain.... Now if we can only convince the masses to use the roofs to catch this water we wouldn't be suffering from such a water crisis over here.....

    perth mushies

I am in fact speculating as I havent checked myself recently, but in the past I have seen them as late as end of September, and there's been heaps of rain around lately. Its been an epic winter - I've noticed there tends to be a few obscure patches popping up on higher ground towards the end of the season. The lower lying areas tend to get a bit too sodden by now though, and although there may still be a some around they will probably be few and far between.

    perth mushies

There is definitely still some subs south of Perth at the moment, but they will probably not be prolific. Other species that grow in WA, OTHER than P. subaeruginosa are; - Panaeolus fimicola - Psilocybe coprophila (possibly not even active, but way too small to bother collecting for 'study'... ) - Gymnopilus purpuratus - Gymnopilus junionus (possibly not active either) A good list is in this thread Good luck!

    A show!

Sounds good! No seasol in the casing layer however, this should be completely non-nutritious. Add it to your water when you soak your straw however...

    .

Another way is to leave a pot of water boiling on the stove for ten minutes (high boil), then suck up and squirt out the still boiling water (being careful not to burn yourself) several times - I find 5 or 6 times is good. The last one you can hold the water in the syringe for a minute or two before expelling it. I have used the same syringe for months and months using this method.

    spawning and bulk substrates

I'm not sure I agree, personally I think dunking is excellent to replenish moisture levels in bulk substrates, though like you say, heavy misting can work just as well.

    tripping alone or with friends?

In the past, with others... its great to share experiences and have a laugh. But these days, alone. There is nothing to inhibit my feelings or creativity when I know Im the only one in the room. Doofs are good as I find I can dissolve as if I was alone on the dancefloor or go for a walk in the bush, or if feeling in the mood can socialise by the fire - therefore offering the best of both worlds. Journey's with my significant other are rewarding more so from seeing how much she gets out of the experience, rather than how much I do. Its rewarding to see someones third eye open for the first time, and be there to offer any assistance or guidance you feel is right.

where can you find baggies for prints?

I was going to say newsagents - in the stationery isle.

    casing pics

I was referring to your substrate depth, not the casing - just in case you missed that.

    casing pics

Could also be because of the depth of your substrate - 8cm's is a minimum if you want chunkier fruits. Cool photos!

    subs slugs/maggots

Drying your shrooms makes the little blighters drop off, and they soon die themselves. Not good practice if you're Hari Krisna. Seems later in the season is when these guys pose more problems. (Edit: the bugs, not the Hari Krisna's)

    pet shaman's

I'm not a violent person, but if I saw someone dosing their animals that would be a different story.... Only watch this link if you can handle seeing the horrible effects of what drugs can do to a cat Dont be cocksnaps - keep drugs away from your pets if you have even a milligram of self respect.

    dark blue tea

Phosphene - if your friend saw no blue then this is a good sign of an efficient extraction - the darker blue = the more evidence of oxidation and in turn = degradation of the goodies. This could also be a contributing factor in the potency of this brew (plus 6g!! Hooly Dooly....)

    Yield decrease with cold weather?

You don't get even heating with heat pads and greatly increase the risk of spoiling your substrate when its sitting on a heat pad - it might be a lot better if you had a heat pad beneath your FC if inside your terrarium you had cakes sitting on perlite - and I have never personally tried it - but I have read countless times and heard from many people that they don't work well and promote contamination and rotting. You really want to warm their growing environment, not the substrate itself - eg the air above them in the FC in which your fruitbodies develop, or the air in the room where the FC is. Thats why a home brew heat belt would work well if you wrap it around your FC, but ABOVE the substrate level - to warm the air inside your FC.
