    Mushroom season 2008.

I have a hard time swallowing this. Maybe it is true as I have never tried melbourne subs, but anytime I have tried WA lovelies 1g is enough - and everyone else who tries them agrees. Perhaps its to do with my tiny willy. Where I hunt used to be pine plantation that cows walked through spreading spores and upping the nutrient in the pine needles making a perfect home for mushrooms. Since then, they have harvested all the pine. The cows remain so the area now resembles cow paddocks, but there are more mushrooms than ever. It appears that since the trees are gone, more light hits the ground now so the grass grows much longer - creating a wonderful umbrella to catch the dew and the rain and create the perfect microclimate for mushroom babies to grow big and strong...

    Rainfall Charts Or Radars

The BOM website is a disaster to navigate, but has all the info. This one is the total rainfall for the previous week in NSW - http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN60004.html The bulletin should update either daily or weekly...

Magic Mushrooms Hit The God Spot

Very very cool article - I read this a while back and have it blue tacked to my fridge.

    Popcorn Polyfill Lids

You probably could yes - but popcorn would be hard to sterilise properly by steaming is my guess. You would probably be better off doing the pf tek but with polyfill filters in the lid to speed up colonisation if you don't have a pressure cooker. But, obviously it does work sterilising popcorn that way as demonstrated - I would just be a little careful, maybe boil for minimum of 2 hours just to be sure.

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

If the people who grow them at home are referring to cubensis rather than subaeruginosa (which is much more commonly grown at home) this is true - but cubensis is a dung loving mushroom and you will find that the wood-loving mycelium (subaeruginosa) is incredibly hardy compared with dung lovers, and the two cannot be compared. For example - you can leave a colonised wood-loving species to completely dry out over summer with no water whatsoever for months on end, and as soon as it gets wet again it re-animates and starts growing. Contamination isn't a major issue when dealing with wood lovers as there aren't a lot of molds that will readily grow on wood substrates. This can illustrated by keeping a few stem butts from some subs and laying them in between some sheets of cardboard that have been soaked in water and drained. No sterilisation is needed and if patience is noted then the cardboard should get colonised by the mycelium and this can then be buried in a new woodchip bed to start another patch reasonably easily.

    Need ID

Mate they won't be dry enough if they were only out for a day - if the stems on them don't *snap* when you bend them (should be like a twig) then they will likely grow mould or worse if they are in an airtight jar. Leave them out under a fan for at least 2 or more days, then put them in the jar with some 'damp rid' or other dessicant (even dry rice works ok) to suck out the last of the moisture.

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

Agreed, I see no major harm in the practice - after-all it's a fungus, so if you cut the stem butt off and bury it 10 metres away from where you found the first one you are only helping to spread the love. Collect all your stem butts and bury them in a completely different spot altogether and you hopefully start a new patch!

    Mushroom season 2008.

Hey guys, the magic mushrooms pies are just a gimmick - the locals are cashing in on the town's reputation, and have named their cafe accordingly - with the specialty being their 'magic mushroom pies' - though the ingredients are nothing more than portabello's, shitake and gravy... Undergrounder - I did in fact gather a small handful of gyms just so I didn't come home empty handed, with the intent of eating a few, but I got cold feet and didn't end up trying them - just can't bring myself to eat them after what I have read from other's 'lack' of an experience and bitter taste. These were found in WA.

    Mushroom season 2008.

After a long drive, I found a LOT of gym's, but nothing else of any real interest. It was great to get out and about in nature, away from the city, and have an adventure! And its good to see that the locals are capitalising on the town's reputation... (edit - fixed the attachments )

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

Bejeevus, I was really hoping this wasn't going to turn into a quote fest! Don't be an ass hair, of COURSE I read your posts! I would strongly suggest you read these threads from start to finish, if you are looking for 'proof' before you 'dedicate anytime to doing this' - HERE and HERE. I think the idea is different for everyone, it's a personal thing. For me it's about getting out and seeing, touching, experiencing, exploring, interacting, learning and enjoying - with the added buzz of striking gold when you do! It's all good mate, you're a cool dude and put lots of time and attention to structuring your posts - I just hope you reserve some of that energy for understanding my point and getting out there to have a look! Perhaps someone has some habitat shots to aid baphomet in his quest?

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

One last question then - are you saying that you won't go hunting until you know you will at least find 1000 for your efforts?

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

Crikey... Far out man, really, all I was getting at was that everyone recommends hunting in wood chip beds, and you see no reason to do it. I never offered you any advice other than to listen to the woodchip suggestions, and to get out there and have a look for yourself, albeit a bit harsh. My defence for being harsh is frustration at you discounting good advice without trying it. Honestly man, I'm sorry to have upset you so much, that result was far form the intention.

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

Well when Stamets gives you advice, and everyone else on this forum gives you advice, and you still don't take it, you are the one who is contributing to filling up threads with useless information. No-one is going to show you their patches, whether you're willing to drive or not. You will understand this once you have found one that is easily accessible and yields well that no-one else knows about. Whether you can drive or not appears to have no impact on sub hunting with the public transport system as it is in Melbourne. Hit the trains/trams/buses and get out there. My recommendation would be to take the advice form those more experienced to help you along the way before you make any more complaints, and go out and put in some solid hours of hunting before you look for an easy way out.

    Australian Canning Jar Supplier

I haven't seen them in any Kmarts around the city here for at least a year, and when I asked them they said they aren't going to order anymore in. Plus, the plastic lids they sell on that site (currently sold out) are INVALUABLE and I haven't seen them before in Oz.
  24. Hyphal

    very doubtful subs?

Looks like its 'greening' a bit on the stem, or is that just me?
