  1. Fatalii. By far. Aroma and taste are far superior to any other chili, even all habanero sorts, and heat level is perfect for me, not too hot, but spicy enough.

I just sliced a few in half a week ago to dry, and the whole house is smelling of them still.

EDIT: Oh yeah, when I say fataliis are 'not too hot', that's only by my standards, they are hotter than any habanero I've tried, in the range of some jolokias, so take that into the account if you don't like it too hot.

  2. EDIT: I showed these pics to Mrs Fly - she said of the graft - That is Grotesque - absolutely hideous - I had hoped that one would die too. I told her grafts are popular with some folks in this Forum. Then they must be kids - was her response.

I don't like being judgmental, and that includes not judging people who are. She is perfectly entitled to her opinion. Different people have different preferences, the best thing we can do is accept those differences and live our own lives, but if some can't, oh well.

My sense for aesthetics is severely underdeveloped, and I only look at grafting from the perspective of usefulness. To categorically deny there is any usefulness or any skill involved in grafting would be incorrect in my opinion. But to each their own.

Maybe in another 30 years, when I'm all grown up, I'll dislike grafts as well.

  3. That's very impressive!

My climate is much more restrictive, and even someone with much better horticultural skills, and if all other conditions were perfect, would probably achieve half that size in the same time.

But your skill is undeniably great, regardless of the climate. I have to substitute my poorer climate and lack of own-root growing skill with grafting, it works for me just fine. :)

  4. Thanks for the reply!

I was considering istick 50 earlier (btw it's half the price on fasttech), but now there is istick 60 available, pretty much the same chip with temperature control and some other improvements. Main thing I didn't like in istick 50 was fixed battery, this one uses one 18650, which is my preference.

I do intend to use sub ohm and probably TC as well, 60 watts should be plenty of power for that, no?

So I'm looking for devices in that range. Right now I have istick 30W and Innoking itaste mvp 20W with Kanger aerotanks, and am getting a subtank soon, and I'm quite satisfied with them for outside use, but would like something more powerful. Actually what I really want is a mod in which I can take 3 spare batteries with me and use it without thinking when I'll be close to a plug, and there's no sense in getting another 30W mod for the same price.

And I'm in Europe, most vape shops here sell mostly small 'cigarette' styled vaporizers, and the mods they have are outdated and 3X the price from China.

How are you satisfied with the M80? Koopor is an offshoot of Smok, I heard their quality and performance are quite similar.

  5. I think it is trying to tell you that it will grow better on its own roots than as a graft !!!

I got it's message and it will be growing on it's own roots from next year.

However, it was grafted as a tiny 2 week old seedling a year and a half ago, others from the same sowing are now about 5 cm tall with juvenile areoles and spines still. So grafting most definitely served it's purpose.

Btw, I got one A. myriostigma grafted onto Myrtillocactus geometrizans to flower exactly 45 days from sowing (30 days to produce a bud), and in that time it was the size of at least a 3 year old myriostigma grown on it's own roots.

  6. Hey guys, anyone got any suggestions what would be a good ~50W TC mod to buy, up to $40 US or so? Only condition is that it has to run on 18650 battery.

There are a lot of new devices coming out in the next few months so I'll wait a bit longer, but Cloupor mini plus looks good to me, as well as Eleaf 60W, Koopor mini and IPV D2. Anyone using these devices or any from those brands? Which has the best reputation?

  7. Anything thick enough to support a scion should work OK, grandiflorus, pteranthus, macdonaldiae etc., or one of the many hybrids. But like in Trichocereus, certain clones behave differently, so it's good to find one that is well suited for your climate, that is the main difference in Selenicereus, most grow very quickly and accept scions readily.

  8. I can't tell you that for sure, there are always allegations of poaching whenever a newly discovered plant pops up for sale. It is not as widely available as A. valdezii has become, even though it's quite easy to propagate by grafting offsets, so I'd guess even if it was poached, it was in very low numbers. I haven't seen even one specimen on it's own roots, so that would suggest there are no habitat specimens in any significant numbers in Europe. Personally I'm aware of 4 collectors who sell grafted specimens, all of them from Eastern Europe, but I'm sure soon there will be more of them given the number of distributed plants.

And I wouldn't generalize too much, it's not really about 'Eastern Europe', it's more about those few huge collectors and growers who happen to live in Czech republic and Poland and have connections in Latin America, botanists or otherwise, from there they first sell to nearby growers in various cactus fairs and exhibitions, which are popular in that part of Europe.

And regarding seeds, people are still just speculating, in some species of Mammillaria the seeds can't be extracted without destroying the plant, so people think it could be the same with bertholdii. That's the reason that there are so few seeds of M. luetheyii for sale for example, even tough it's relatively common grafted plant.Time will tell I guess.
