  1. So you are suggesting that you don't process new information, verify it for truth and then accept it.
  2. How do you know what you know, if you don't believe in it?

    Prophet

Impressed and confused. Most immediate impression was " You can't contain the truth "
  4. I tend to believe that there is two parts of me. A eternal aspect which I see as the bedrock of consciousness and A temporal aspect which is my body. Of course my temporal aspect dies, but my eternal aspect continues. However if you have not familiarized and identified yourself with the eternal aspect then for all intents and purposes you DIE.

Preparing a casing for the 2nd flush

Hello mumbles. First I should qualify my answer by stating I have yet to get a first flush from a cased substrate. I did my first casing today. But from what I have been reading at the shroomery. Misting it to required moisture levels seems to be the go. If you scrape of the casing layer and recase you waste the mycelliums energy in recolonizing the new casing layer. Some people advocate dunking but this seems to be far from universal

  9. Wars are fought over property and resources and they are sometimes justified with religion. Surely you don't have a problem with the concept of democracy and yet that has recently been used to justify a war. Don't think the war had much to do with installing democracy but it was a convenient way to justify it , just as religion has been in the past. Anyway my vote assumed that spirituality was interchangable with religion, if not then I would have to change my vote

    Don't wanna dream...

You have to he happy with yourself before you can expect someone else to be happy with you. Seems to me you are focussing on the only negative in your life and completely ignoring all the things you have going for you as identified by previous posts. When you are happy with yourself then the relationship you form will be based on something positive. On a more practical level when I was younger aerobics was a great place to meet nice healthy women, rock climbing was even better due to the fact you need a partner to do it safely.

    Steamer Basket

Have recently bought a large pressure cooker but the steamer basket greatly reduces the volume I have at my disposel. Can I sterilize cucinarware jars on the bottom of the pressure cooker instead of the steamer basket.

    Steamer Basket

Hi DOM Its the width not the height that is the problem. There seems to be about 2cm gap all the way around the basket, which adds up. Shall go with the tea towell and try without (maybe) in the future

    Psychoactive Saffron (Crocus sativus)

Crocus sativus L. in the treatment of mild to moderate depression: a double-blind, randomized and placebo controlled trial [PROCEEDINGS OF THE BRITISH PHARMACOLOGICAL SOCIETY CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY SECTION 14–16 December 2004: University of Newcastle: The GlaxoSmithKline prize communication] Akhondzadeh, S.; Noorbala, A. A.; Tahmacebi-Pour, N.; Kashani, L. Psychiatric Research Centre, Roozbeh Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran Depression is a serious disorder in today's society with estimates of lifetime prevalence as high as 21% of the general population in some developed countries. As defined by the American Psychiatric Association, depression is a heterogeneous disorder often manifested with symptoms at the psychological, behavioural and physiological levels. Such patients are often reluctant to take synthetic antidepressants in their appropriate doses due to their anticipated side effects including inability to drive a car, dry mouth, constipation and sexual dysfunction [1]. Thus, there is a need for more effective and less toxic agents. Plants extracts are some of the most attractive sources of new drugs, and have been shown to produce promising results for the treatment of depression. In Asian medicine and in particular Persian traditional medicine, saffron is used to treat menstrual disorders, difficult labour, inflammation, vomiting, and throat diseases. Crocus sativus is also used to treat depression. Many medicinal plants textbooks refer to this usage whereas there is no evidence-based document. Our objective was to assess the efficacy of stigmas of Crocus sativus (saffron) in the treatment of mild to moderate depression in a 6-week double-blind, placebo controlled, randomized trial. Thirty adult outpatients who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, for major depression based on the structured clinical interview for DSM IV participated in the trial. All participants provided written informed consent, and the protocol satisfied the Tehran University of Medical Sciences Ethics Committee requirements. Patients had a baseline Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression score of at least 18. In this double-blind, single-centre trial, patients were randomly assigned to receive a capsule of saffron 30mg day-1 (twice daily) (Group 1) and a capsule of placebo (twice daily) (Group 2) for a 6-week study. The outcome of the two groups was assessed using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D). All patients completed the trial. Patients were assessed by a third year resident of psychiatry at baseline and 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 weeks after the medication started. The principal outcome measure was the 17-item HAM-D. The rater used standardized instructions in the use of HAM-D. A two-way repeated measures analysis of variance (time-treatment interaction) was used. The two groups as a between-subjects factor (group) and the five measurements during treatment as the within-subjects factor (time) were considered. In addition a one-way repeated measures analysis of variance with a two-tailed post hoc Tukey mean comparison test was performed in the change from baseline in each group. To compare the two groups at baseline and the outcome of two groups at the end of the trial, an unpaired Student's t-test with a two-sided P value was used. To compare the demographic data, Fisher's exact test was performed. There were no significant differences between the two groups at week 0 (baseline) on the HAM-D (t = 0.34, d.f. = 38, P = 0.73). At 6 weeks, Crocus sativus produced a significantly better outcome on the HAM-D than placebo (d.f. = 1, F = 18.89, P < 0.001). There were no significant differences in the two groups in terms of observed side effects. In addition, the difference between the two protocols was significant at week 6 (t = 6.81, d.f. = 38, P < 0.0001). There were no significant differences in the two groups in terms of observed side effects. The results of this study indicate the efficacy of Crocus sativus in the treatment of mild to moderate depression. A large-scale trial is justified. 1 Demyttenaere K. 19. I would call myself a Buddhist. But not because I have read Buddhist text and decided to believe in them but because had my own beliefs and the Buddhist texts were what best correlated with them. I have found myself thinking alot about going with the flow in the recent months. So I should probably start thinking myself as a Taoist instead.
  20. Whilst having pure motives is obviously better , doing it is what is important. The Dali Lama uses the term being wisely selfish. That is where you help others for the good karma it brings you. This helps establish the habits and also reinforces the concept of Karma.

    Ken Wilber

I first read "No Boundaries" many years ago and have recently picked it up again. I think that it is the best description of the formation of ego boundaries and consequently one of the best books for overcoming the limitations of the boundaries we place on ourselves. Not having read any of his other books I can't comment on those. But have recently bought seven of them. Through a stuff up I received two orders and five of those books where donated to Ipswich library. Unfortunately "No Boundaries" is not amongst them as I gave to someone istead of donating to library.
